I think the EU should now be looking at building a coalition with Canada, Australia and Central and South American countries against US aggression - whether that is physical or economic.

There's got to be something. The current world order is built on the idea of a confrontation between US and USSR/Russia where countries align one way or the other depending on their values.
Now the US and Russia are aligned against the rest of us. So the rest of us need to adapt.
100% agree. The US is now an existential threat to the west and the rest of the civilized world. They are a Russian ally now bent on destroying democracy wherever it can.
The USofA can be self-sufficient in most things but at what cost? Most certainly countries especially Canada should not rely so heavily on one customer
Make no mistake. The US is going to become poorer. OrangePutin even said it, but he said it would all be worth it once he ushers in the "Age of The Robber Barrons 2.0".
I don't think you understand what I am getting at. European limits the relationship to the continent. Whereas if it was economic then Australia, Canada and New Zealand amongst others could join all of whom have strong relationships with the UK.
As an Australian, I agree. Of course, we had a contract to have some submarines built in France. We cancelled to sign a deal to have them built in the USA, for a lot more money with no guarantee that we'll even get them. Australian politicians are utter sycophants when it comes to the US alliance.
i’m actually kinda wondering if the EU and China may get closer for opportunistic purposes. both have the most to gain from the USA collapsing even though it’s also dangerous. i guess they’d be either allies or rivals.
as for russia i think its not in great shape and a usa collapse, even a partial one, will drag them down with us at this point. the scary part is if people start using nukes but otherwise its just a slow spiral.
i could also imagine a usa fragment that splits upon russia vs europe vs asia lines. it could even possibly be nonviolent. to be clear i dont want it or think its a good idea. but when several sides hate each other in a failing country why would either die to keep the others with them?
these are just random ideas and could be bullshit. i also think the usa isn’t completely destined to fail and am still working to save it in the little ways i can.
EU and China may well look for some kind of cooperation as a counterweight to the threat of US+Russia. I don't know how the bond between China and Russia is and will be.
We have to recognise that the US are a rogue state with the felon in charge. The American people need to sort their problem out while democratic countries unite against all tyranny
It should also get rid of the traitors within. We're at war with Russia. Hungaria and co can't be trusted and all they do is making noise. They've already picked their side so there's no reason to keep them in.
Meloni's government shows no sign of falling, however appalling she is (witness her behaviour on Monday in Paris). We're stuck with her for another 2.5 years.
Agreed. Pointless trying to build bridges with Trump, be it internationally or domestically. Time for everybody to collectively rip that Band-Aid off and forge new alliances. There is no dealing to be done with a corrupt con man.
Australia just relocated refugees to Nauru. Obsessed with "border security". We have a very hostile environment to immigration now, got a lot worse last year. And this is under an allegedly centre-left government 🙄 👿
Waiting for some refugee status! I’ll move to a remote location with an agricultural PhD and 15 years of research experience. I’ll teach high school science, I’ll do whatever for enough wage to keep a roof over my head and food on my table!
Bet they already are.
While others nations work on building economic structures to support their society , the Americans r disemboweling the very structures that do so a rich man can parse out private contracts to mates, thats being positive abt it. Slave labour & disinformation is a hella a motto.
this would be great! We could take a page out of Elon's book, and name it based on Europe, Canada, Australia, Asia, Transatlantic (refers to British to America, but in this case could be British to South American countries). Then it will be Doge versus E-Caat. It could be a combo of peace & trade
I can't say I know him well, but he didn't atrike me as a full fledged EU supporter, nor progressive. But then again, who is. I hope EU leaders are not compromised enough to go along with the total perversion of a system that was already flawed enough to get us here.
The only way to deal with bullies is to stand up to them & present a united front. However I fear the UK government are still wedded to the myth of a “special relationship” with USA
Unfortunately in Australia the government and opposition have blinders on. They're saying nothing for fear of tariffs. Australia recently sent AUD 800 million to the US as an AUKUS payment.
And Korea + Japan. We can just wait untill his policies target them too. A coalition of the remaining free and democratic countries against the authoritarianism in the US.
Yes I think a 'Non European Associate Membership' would be a good idea from the EU. Not the same terms as European members but one to reinforce trade and policies and against the US.
The US will focus on Mexico, which is significantly growing. The country can out produce Canada. It's warm. Tropical. Beautiful. Trades with 42 countries. Has the capacity for many entry points. Trump recognizes this and pads softly. He'll roll in and walk softly out. We love and need Mexico.
He's pretty much spot on tho, the UK politicians need to absolutely stop licking the toes of Americans (politicians and elites) and lead with australia, new Zealand and EU 26 ( hell naw to Hungary) they're unreliable
None of that will happen until the U.S. is kicked out of all those countries. The U.S. has over 500 military bases worldwide - mostly for intimidation and keeping their host countries controlled.
Totally agree. The most immediate need is for NAFTA and EU/UK countries to start forming closer economic and trade ties to mitigate some of the impact from tariffs. There should also be a coordinated effort to divert trade direction to emerging economies to reduce reliance on US goods
I think that the real Free World should band together in all sorts of ways in mutual support and to stick it to the GOP in new, unprecedented ways, beginning with press statements and visa denials -- not only to prominent GOP politicians, but also oligarchs, major donors, & finally all Republicans.
The ones failing to put boots on the ground for starters. Putin is not going to stop with Ukraine. Certainly not with tRump in office in the US. The US government has sided with Russia, it seems.
If they do not stand their ground with Ukraine now, they will be tithing to Putin and speaking Russian as their primary language for a very long time. It's their choice. Russia is not the only nuclear capable country in the European theater.
Absolutely. The EU should intensify and speed upp the free trade negotiations with the democracratic countries around the Mexican Gulf.
Not the us then.

Now the US and Russia are aligned against the rest of us. So the rest of us need to adapt.
Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand are now aligned with BRICS.
But with actually mutually beneficial trade agreements
And also Africa economic success prevents rushes to get to Europe

Everybody else, band together, and circle the wagons.

The world is gonna build the wall - around US. It's gonna be a great wall, and it's gonna be paid for by US taxpayers - tariff by tariff.
Poles, Czech, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Finns, Swedes, Danes?
Greeks, Italians, French?
It would put NATO and Russia at war and until now, that would've meant the end of civilisation.
Now that the US wouldn't be a participant against Russia, of course, things aren't so predictable.
Who knows what Europe could do now, now that it's no longer going to be carrying the banner for the US?
Win-win relationships seem to be alien to the hegemonistic American mind.
BRICS is already doing a work-around.
Google
BRICS Unit Currency.
We need to provide a completely different narrative on Ukr.
Not the us then.
