This is encouraging ... maybe the overflow of thought against Autocracy can spill into the USA & do more than interrupt the greed & the narcissim of Musk & Trump but finally stop it. My wish is that his own MAGA followers destroy both of them & their efforts as the Italians recognized w/Mussolini
Check back on Hungary a few days later. There is always a huge crowd/protest on March 15th. It's a National holiday, the Memorial Day of the 1848 Revolution. So maybe it's the beginning of something, but probably just a usual March 15th.
“Do you hear the people sing, singing a song of angry men, it is the music of a people who will not be slaves again. When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums, there is a fight about to start when tomorrow comes.” Les Miserables

Because Europeans are taught to question things and people from childhood. They are not taught to blindly respect authority while being told they are free. They are also not taught they are the best country in the world, while being poorly educated so that belief goes unchallenged.
Putting aside the apparent motivation, organization and communication issues we've got, one problem is that the U.S. is very spread-out, with D.C. on the east coast. If we can overcome the issues above, our demonstrations would draw 10s of 1000s to state capitals, as well as 100s of 1000s to D.C.
With the protests in Hungary and the anti Vucic protests in Serbia, can we be seeing a uprising against the nationalist right in Europe? And related, is that part of a Europe-wide rejection of the new Trump-Orban-Vucic-Putin axis?
today was a national holiday for the anniversary of the 1848 Revolution--which shook the foundations of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. But the impetus is the rise of the Tisza party which is gaining rapidly in popularity. Whether they win the elections next year is another question
Hold on. How long for Hungarians to be out on the streets? Way 2 many years, right. And noone was living under terror in Budapest. The majority always loved him n argued the EU had no reason to bully him. Orban has always been an obnoxious wanna-be-putin n the check in on Budapest s table.
Massive events all over the world: example, just today millions in Hungary and Serbia, just to mention two, yet American TV doesn't even mention it.
Don't they know there's a world going on?
Instead, we need social media or BBC to hear the slightest mentions.
Ridiculous. Why is this?
"If the United States saw what the United States is doing in the United States, the United States would invade the United States to liberate the United States from the tyranny of the United States"--Mohamad Safa.
I wonder why it's not on the news? Google shows nothing, no coverage anywhere, yet it seems important - it's another nation standing up: Tbilisi, Belgrad, Bratislava, Buenos Aires, now Budapest.. They try to set countries against one another, but the real war is the power abusers against the people
Yeah, yeah. We're doing this for one single day every year then go to work, forget everything and do our daily routines again n again. I'm happy to see these people out there but I'll be happier if we're gonna stay there until we need to.🤷
FYI, we are protesting at our states capitol. You’re not seeing it because they aren’t showing it on the news. For me to go to DC to protest, I’d have a 4 hour flight and then find the money for a place to stay. 55 million on the west coast alone.
Want to help the EU: Have a representative ( Maybe @schumer.senate.gov :P ) Go to the army and the National Guard and demand that they uphold their oath #RemoveTrumpFromOffice and defend the constitution and the US People for a change. Regards #TheNetherlands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q82twrdr0U
Don’t forget 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, it’s hard if not impossible for some people to miss a day of work. If anything more protest need to take place on weekends when people are free instead of weekdays which I’m mainly seeing.
I hear you. But then, maybe first and foremost people should go in the streets for a better welfare system, where they are not living paycheck to paycheck (not saying it does not happen also elsewhere, but possibly not as chronically as in the US: 60% !!!).
Or just vote for it!
All the best to Americans protesting, don't lose hope.
But recall approximate populations (million): Hungary <10, NY city ~8, New York state + New Jersey ~30, L.A. county ~10.
Area (1000 sq km): Hungary ~93, NY city ~1.2, New York state + New Jersey ~164, LA county ~10.6
population density (per sq km): Hungary ~106, NY city ~11232, LA county ~914.
From an outsider, it looks like the US has pockets with high population density that rivals entire European nations. So the muted reaction that we're seeing is confusing.
March 15 is one of, if not the, most important national holidays in Hungary. Anniversary of the 1848 revolution and war of independence against the Habsburgs.
It's a rally by the new opposition party. Parties usually have rallies on March 15, so there's nothing unusual about that. The size of the crowd is a pleasant surprise, though also not completely unexpected, the new party is more popular at the moment than Orban's Fidesz. People are really fed up.
no, 😱
Hungarian P. M. Viktor Orban has once again taken a dim view of the EU. In a speech on the national holiday, he escalated his rhetoric in front of cheering supporters: He calls his opponents "bugs" and announces an "Easter cleaning" against them. He accuses Brussels of warmongering in Ukraine.
Orban can't talk about his economic policy either – Hungary has been in recession for two years!
For years, Fidesz and Orban have been stirring up anti-EU sentiment – after all, you need a bogeyman when your own rampant corruption is crippling the country.
There have been a number of large protests since February 2024, this is not the first. The brand new opposition party who held this one have been ahead of Orban's party in the polls since the summer. But elections are only in 2026.
Thanks for info. I am in Germany and I saw there were protests before. I hope these ones will be succesful. Orban is really harming the EU und his country. 2026 is still some time to go until new elections.
BUDAPEST, March 15 (Reuters) - Tens of thousands rallied in Budapest against Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday, waving the national flag as the leader of the surging opposition Tisza party pledged to make Hungary part of a strong Europe and end Orban's 15-year rule.

I doubt they would want that. 1956 uprising and all that.

So the Orban demonstrations really are not being reported…

The privileged have to suffer first, though.
They don't want EU.
We don't want them neither.

Are you following @indivisible.org? They've been one of the most organized groups that I'm aware of.
massive marches in DC may not be as meaningful at this point as tons of local ones.
asking for a U.S.
bc whatever else happens Trump himself is not gonna be there that long.
the whole GOP is profoundly corrupt and autocratic now though.

Control ignorant people better.
People with knowledge can't be controlled, unless they're in on it.
