From 2016-2020, I had this faux birch tree with lights that I decorated with only crow ornaments, a protest tree. Finding cool crow ornaments made me happy though. I really thought I would not need it again, but guess I will be dragging it back up from the basement. Do what makes you happy. π¦ββ¬ π²
Given the dark times weβre in, I am also thinking about setting up the Christmas lights and tree earlier this year!
The next 4 years will have to be about the little things that bring joyβ¦
I wanted the joy! Started November 1st - of course, I am insane: 6 full size trees , every doorway has a garland and who knows how many smaller trees. I need a 12 stepβ¦.or maybe just more ribbon.
Thanksgiving is so late this year that Christmas will be here before we know it. Last week, I couldn't wait to decorate for Christmas but found out yesterday that neither one of my kids can come home for the holidays because of work schedules. Now I'm dreading doing any decorating.
No, too early. Christmas keeps getting moved up earlier and earlier. Stores start selling Christmas stuff before Halloween. Before you know it, the Christmas season will actually start on July 4.
I have one room set up for thanksgiving and another for Christmas. After thanksgiving I set the other room up for Christmas too. Iβd rather have it up early since itβs a lot of work.
In France tradition has it that the tree goes up on December 6th, Feast of Saint Nicholas, and comes down on January 6th, Feast of the Three Kings (Epiphany).
Iβm just not in the mood this year, so a lighted garland for the fireplace and a Stitch Xmas figurine (both Costco buys last week) are gonna have to do.
The year we were locked down i put it up in early October- i needed the twinkly lights. I think i left it up after and decorared it for Valentines Day.
I bought a stick tree with lights and set it up in my living room earlier this week. π€£
I love the twinkle, makes me smile π
Iβll start Christmas decorations day after Turkey day π€£
We had our Thanksgiving in October (Canada) so thatβs a little early. But I think anytime after Nov 1. We start with outside decorations closer to the beginning of Nov and then interior before end of month. I want to enjoy it and think of family and friends and not what will happen after Jan 20.
My wife always insisted that you decorate for Christmas the day after thanksgiving. However since TG is late this year we started putting Christmas stuff up this weekend.
Hubs built a closet in the basement underneath the stairs to store two fully decorated trees that I cover with sheets. I just drag them out and plug them up whenever the mood strikes me. Today was that day. π²
One year my sister had to put her tree in the playpen. The next year she put Christmas lights in the shape of a tree on the wall and taped small ornaments on it. Soooo cute. Think I want to do that this year.
My sons will bring my tree & decorations up from the basement when they are over for Thanksgiving. Iβll work on getting the house decorated the weekend after. I almost put them up earlier this year.
...and even though I'll be finding glitter around the house for the next year..it was worth it!! Now..if I would actually start making the matching wreath for my garland that I made 2 years ago... THAT would be an accomplishment!
I have held out! I know Thanksgiving is as late as it can be this year but I am not going to give in. Also, I don't take my tree down until after January 1st.
My birthday is December 3. I will be 64 this year. I have always waited till after my birthday to start decorating for Christmas to separate the two events. But this year Iβm focusing on things that bring me joy. So, I already decorated for Christmas and Iβm very happy with my decision
I usually wait till the weekend after Thanksgiving, but since Iβm leaving town Thanksgiving and I have a cat now that we did not have last year, I will have no tree, but I did put up decorations. Since everyoneβs a little depressed, some bright lights and glitter would be a welcome.
Iβm making a little Kamala Harris ornament for my tree this year. Not as a religious thing, for no politician is a God.For me, she is a beacon of hope for a better future. Delayed for now but yes, someday. She stands up for goodness and integrity. For that, I will always be grateful.Hope, gratitude.
In our home my partner never lets me play holiday music before Thanksgiving (I love holiday music)
But this year the rules have changed. Been playing holiday playlists since Nov 6 π
I donβt even want to think about Christmas until after thanksgiving, but every year they start rolling out the Christmas stuff earlier and earlier. 5 years from now theyβre going to start playing βAll I want for Christmas is youβ in Target immediately after July 4th.
Christmas trees are lovely once they are done but it's a hell of a lot of work and since I now live by myself and I don't even have a cat to knock the stuff off, I don't bother.
I hear you! I got a very realistic fake small one and put three special ornaments on it. Gives me a little bit of Christmas without all the work. A bare tree with just lights fits my modernist soul.
We put our outdoor lights up two days post election and have them on ever since. We needed some joy.. Interior went up last week..we have never had everything up this early.
I hold no malice towards those who do, but Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I don't like to skip over it. Tree and decorations after Thanksgiving for me.
My tree stays up year around. I love the glow of a Christmas tree, as well as the energy it displays within the room. (plus, I got tired of putting it up and taking it down, so I said βfuck itβ¦letβs keep it up for good!!!)
My sister did that. Because of the animals and her little one, itβs just a small table top one after the big one bit the dust. Now she just decorates it to coincide with the season (St Patrickβs Day, Easter, etc.)
Thatβs what I do. Then after a few years of doing this, I realized John Prine kept one up in his home year around. So, from that moment on, I decided it had to be cool if Mr. Prine did it.
So many folks I know are decorating early this year and our whole neighborhood looks like it's the week before Christmas. We even got a bit of snow yesterday. Apparently, nature wants to decorate early, too. My hubby and I decided to decorate this week. Yeah, we need the cheer.
TO ALL: Take this time to recharge & recoup with your friends & family. Enjoy yourself through the Holidays, indulge & forget about Trump. Because starting in January we, The Resistance, will become the biggest pain in the ass MAGA & the GOP has ever experienced.
We usually donβt, but ours went up this week! Itβs one of the later Thanksgivings so I think itβs ok for this year. Plus we all need some holiday cheer β€οΈπβ€οΈπ€β€οΈ
Yes - βcause this world is in turmoil - eat breakfast for dinner, put up your tree in November. Do what makes you happy and allows you to keep your sanity
I made it! Found a plane tree topper that had a star on it, so I broke the star off with pliers, put a hole in the bottom of a cheap globe and attached it to the base. Itβs our travel tree with ornaments from the places weβve been :)
I decorate trees & most of the people I decorate for have me doing it before Thanksgiving; only 1 wants it after.
Me personally, I put up my tree on Thanksgiving day after I eat dinner; Iβve made it a family tradition to do so.
This year itβs only my mom & me but after she passes Iβll still do it.π²π

Itβs a great distraction to the madness.
I'm stealing joy from tomorrow anyway I can π€·πΎββοΈπͺπΎπ

It usually comes down within 2 days after Christmas, though.

The lighting stuff on fire and latkes are just a bonus.
But if we did, I would... it adds to the atmosphere π
Last night! Will decorate tomorrow. Did add a few new ornaments and am feeling better already. Needed a pick me up and it worked!
But this year the rules have changed. Been playing holiday playlists since Nov 6 π
Go for it!
Chanukah is late this year. The first night falls on Christmas.
Christmas Evil is an underrated camp classic.....
Itβs trauma from retail work.
We donβt talk about it.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
