i still kind of can’t get over my encounter with the british lady who basically thought it was illegitimate to try to hold trump accountable in anyway.

I would say 'Ah, you met the one then', but there are a small percentage of nutters here who got caught in the Trump/conspiracy nutball gibberish, particularly over lockdown, when it was just them and the Q-Anon loons feeding them through Facebook, with not even the Daily Mail for 'normality'.
I met a postman whilst on my rounds as a carer during lockdown, and he, unbidden, gave me the whole 9 yards: in 4 weeks Trump'll be revealed as the real president and the devils will be hung as traitors, etc. I didn't know what to say to the guy but wanted to know where he'd read about it: Facebook.
And a particularly dumb Tory. Considering the Conservative Party was the party of Thatcher, pro-NATO and everything, it's simply not very clever to defend a dude who will throw your country under the bus.
The anti-consensus-reality machine operates throughout the anglophere; lots of people up in Canada know more about American politics than Canadian, for example.
Not just England, the whole of the United Kingdom. On July 4th, a General Election, and everything points to a landslide for the opposition Labour party.
You'd be shocked to learn most Brits don't actually give much of a fuck for the monarchy nor have any reverence towards it. Probably not this lady though.
After 14 years of voting for worse and worse Tories, I'm a bit skeptical towards what most Brits think. I know several nice ones, I'm just a bit jaded.
I understand you being wary of the crazy shit you see online from British TERFism, but that is a tiny but extremely loud bubble in my view. Sadly they have managed to hijack public discourse, but it will pass.
Britain, like the USA, has a first-past-the-post electoral system. The current PM, Sunak, is governing with a majority he inherited from Bojo the clown, who won 56% of seats despite only winning 43.6% of the vote. Most British people did not actually vote for this racket.
I think it's a coping mechanism for a lot of older people. Pretending everything is natural and functioning well so long as they personally are comfortable.
Curious, do you call her British because of her accent or did she happen to say enough so that you know whether she has US citizenship (or I guess, British)? Whether she is a US citizen or not, she obviously is a Trump supporter, IMO.
Really? People act like he's the king or something. Nah, he's just a lying Mobster who punches down & people with hate in their hearts seem to love that
This is the MAGA basic belief, that he is above any type of accountability for anything. 🙄 I will never understand what they find attractive about this selfish, dumb, vulgar, ugly man.
Considering how the UK's House of Lords has political power, and is unelectable and filled with people who got in because of money donated to political parties...

Plus, all the transphobia and all
Yeah, I guess she'd have thought that.
