You lost me there though. The only time you have a panic attack at a Costco is if you accidentally break the social contract by making eye contact with the samples person. Us weird antisocial losers are just fine in the faceless anonymity of the canned goods canyon
Hey bud, "difficulty in social situations" isn't an indication of someone's intelligence or intention. Let's pick something like "wouldn't step foot in a costco", or "turn their noses up at the idea of delivery pizza", indicative of how out-of-touch they are with "normies".
They need to figure out that the goal is to attack the other party not their own - Trump has had zero problem 1) having no policies 2) having extreme ideas floating around his coalition
Dems need to seem stronger and cooler on vibes not have the right set of bullet points on a fucking website
i am a loyal democrat and thought the harris campaign was extremely well run but ultimately doomed because of basically an entirely perverse information environment where their messaging didn't matter. but they are failing to meet the moment at this time.
Let’s add when did Trump stand in line to renew his drivers license or mail a package at the post office or even stand in line at Walmart to return a wrong item? We are the normal Americans.
Wait... The failure to attend the needs of ordinary people is exactly what Smith is talking about. All those issues are literally divide the populace culture war issues. How about just actually tax the rich and give me better schools? Maybe stop letting monopolies form...
You have to read that as "we need to drop the excesses of DEI," but written vaguely enough that the reader can define the excesses as everything from Jane Elliott style struggle sessions or pseudosociology about "white culture" to, idk, offices that enforce civil rights law.
His logic is basically "I'm not racist and don't say anything that might make me feel bad", which happens to include things like saying lots of white people were on board with slavery
I think I have an OK sense of what Noah counts as "DEI" and what he counts as "just being opposed to racism" but my point is more that this worded in an open-ended way that allows the reader to project into it whatever they dislike as "DEI" and what they want to keep as "anti-racism."
Also what would it mean for Dem politicians to "move away from DEI"? What are they supposed to actually do that's different from Trump's tyrannically invasive approach?
This ends up in practice being code for people to couch their views, no matter how racist they are, as being "anti-DEI." As in, "I don't see color. I just don't think it should be illegal for businesses to associate with who they want to. Public accommodation laws are DEI."
I dunno, I just read it and think "my god that's so stupid". We do far too much pontificating on dumb things posted on the Internet. Normalize citing them as simply stupid.
I just switched from BJs to Costco and I was overwhelmed and stressed out my first time at Costco. Mostly because it was so much more busy and crowded.
"We don't need DEI, people just need to stop being institutionally racist" is very much like "I don't need a prescribed diet for my diabetes, I just need to stop eating unhealthy foods."
I mean, right. But how do you get from A to B do you think?
costco hotdog concessions fans, you know they are even cheaper if you buy a pack and stick one on the microwave for 15 seconds. As far as taste, let us not wonder into such deplorable debate.
i think folks who believe these issues are worth abandoning are the bane of my trans existence as well but i can't help but feel this line of joking is leaning toward being a little ableist
Agree mostly: The only way to request asylum is in the US, right. But lots of lucky folks also apply for asylum in the US, after having entered legally. Sometimes after being here a long time. Conditions change. You don’t want to go home. You’ve come out. You got political. Etc.
Ok, but most assylum claims are denied, so it is abusing the system. The solution is to hire a ton of immigration judges to process the backlog and keep up with the new claims.
But _why_ are they being denied? Because of the racists that run the system? We were founded with zero immigration restrictions, and it made the country so 'great'. We should return to that system of accepting those listed on the foot of the Statue of Liberty.

Nope
While *some* members are clearly to the left, most would feel quite comfortable having high tea with Joe Manchin.

"HAVEN'T YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF
DOLLAR FIFTY HOT DOGS?"
IT'S LEGAL TO CROSS THE BORDER TO REQUEST ASYLUM! THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO REQUEST ASYLUM, YOU HEARTLESS, BRAINLESS DOUCHE!
