Your voice is so soothing! It helps the horrifying shit about racist white dudes go down easier. I don't think I could listen to your content read by an aggressive man, it would end up stressing me out tbh.
Honestly would not be as invested in your podcast if it wasn’t for your voice.
The horrors of what you’re conveying are offset by the calming sound of your voice.
I already followed you on Twitter before I first heard your voice on an ep of It Could Happen Here & was immediately like I love her voice, it’s one of my favourites ever, I find it incredibly soothing. I like this lady even more now. But I should try & be normal about it because that’s weird.
Am I remembering you guesting on @knowledgefight.bsky.social at one point a while back? I feel like your voice paired with Jordan's voice would be a fun listen
Flashbacks to when I did a history day project in middle school and my teacher told me our project was really good and well researched but that my voice was “too happy sounding to be talking about the subject” 😐
You do sound like you’re reading a mystery book for audible but that’s what I like about your show? They pay those audible ladies a lot of money to sound like that! They’re just being rude for no reason.
What a ridiculous bit of unsolicited feedback, I always think with podcasters voices/pronunciation/ vocal fry, if listeners don't have anything nice to say, they should just say nothing at all.
Are they really complaining that you sound too professional? You definitely have the best podcast voice of the podcasts I listen to, but that’s not something you should complain about?
Truth be told your voice is the only thing that keeps me invested in what's ultimately a very ugly topic. You can really hear your passion for the research and writing.
(Really hope that didn't come off weird, it's not meant to!)
Working in podcasting is great because you get several strangers telling you that a fundamental part of yourself that you can't change sucks and is annoying
Someone I know did a podcast and whatever happened in post production made her sound like Minnie Mouse. I couldn’t listen to my friend because her voice was so distracting
gahd just stop affecting your weird cadence which is just how you talk, jeez why do people give me weird looks when I explain how I demand everyone else to sound a certain way when speaking.
The fact that you get this feedback so much is genuinely baffling to me because you’re just talking? Like it’s a normal way of talking? I genuinely do not know what they are reacting to or even trying to describe I swear they are making it up
In another life I was a long distance truck driver and mystery books on tape read in that kind of voice were very enjoyable. Much better than NPR voice with hammer dulcimer intros.
people leave reviews on things like they're critiquing a Swiffer mop and not a person and it's like ...man I just know your kids don't talk to you if you have em
Genuinely found your delivery one of the most compelling aspect of the show.
I was about to describe what I like about it, but I have no idea how self-conscious it can make someone so let's keep it at "perfect for this material" ^^
I love how you sound on podcasts. Like you’re excited to read us something amazing you wrote, but the rest of the house is asleep so you can’t shout it at us like you want to because it’s an unfathomably crazy twisty story
It kinda hits me rather irk-y when they're critiquing a woman's voice or laugh, since it's been our job to be sexual desire fodder for the entirety of human history. I end up pretty darned pissed. Leave girls alone. 😂
Glad you brought this up. This is something I've been working on in myself for a long time, petty judgemental thinking. "If you aren't exactly like me, or my people, there's something wrong with you." I'm much better now, but it's a common trait here, I think, and we need to do better
For real. I love your voice. I enjoy your work and I listen because it’s fascinating. But you could recite knitting patterns and I would absolutely listen to every word.
Sigh. We've told you and told you, that LadyVoice (reg. TM) has got to go. For a new low, low, price, you can buy an AuthoritativeManVoice, and everything you say will be four times as believable, or your money back!
This makes me want to light people on fire for you. I don’t honestly know or care what your voice sounds like or that you are a podcaster, for these purposes. Irrelevant to the convo. Just… fire for everyone who thinks it’s okay to be like this.
Listening to people is highly subjective, and you can look at audiobook reviews to see this, there is no voice that everyone likes. Even really good voices! Try not to take it personally. They are just allergic and that's on them. You're good. You do great.
Molly, recording in a closet she’s haphazardly converted into an audio booth at 1am: Finally, after weeks of research, it’s time to put on an affectation for the next 90 minutes 😓(Unsurprisingly I think your cadence and delivery are excellent, and will heap praise on your work whenever appropriate!)
I love your podcast (even if it often makes me very sad) *because* your voice and delivery make me feel like I'm talking with someone about their thesis project that they're deeply passionate and knowledgeable about, in all the best ways.

Sometimes a lady does a podcast *because* she has a nice voice and something to say with it, in fact!
"And who showed up at the rally? Anyone? Anyone? Dennis Mahon."
(Really hope that didn't come off weird, it's not meant to!)
Reply guy podcast critics are their own weird little guys.

Curious to hear what you'd do with one of Zitron's script-shaped primal scream of rage at the state of tech
Your voice is normal and fine.
