With Hung Cao at the Eden Center in Falls Church, Trump was tickled by the candidate’s name: “I love that name,” he said. “That name alone can get you elected.”
Virginians “want hard men,” Cao said. “We need alpha males. We need meat eaters right now.” (For the record, Kaine is a burger and fries guy. We’re here for the essential issues of our times, folks.)
"When you’re using a, you know, drag queen to recruit for the Navy, that’s not the people we want," Cao said... "What we need is alpha males and alpha females who are going to rip out their own guts, eat them and ask for seconds. Those are young men and women that are going to win wars."
"most powerful country in the world, rationing has no place in our society, yet it is happening under the cover of darkness. Most Americans are unaware several types of medication including antibiotics, cancer therapy, and pain medication are now unavailable at their local pharmacy."
"It is imperative that the medical industry be allowed to innovate and compete in order to drive down costs. Although the needs are overwhelming, mental health has become politicized.
The overwhelming consequences of Covid policies have significantly increased the demand for mental health professionals, yet providers are less likelyto participate with wait times exceeding weeks and months."
Why are all these people religious kookballs, married to white women (and behave like white supremacism is a cloak that shields them too), liars about their service records, and grifters??
"I don't have [health condition]. I take medication for it."
You didn't die of a brain abscess b/c you had timely dental care.
Penicillin just meant the flu was miserable, not that you died or lost part of your hearing.
It's the difference btn living w/ high BP & dying of end stage renal disease.
If the ratio holds up, that means about 24,000 Americans will die this year because they don't have health care. (I suspect it will be higher thanks to the COVID-related increase in overall mortality.)
For all that the ACA sucks rancid donkey balls backwards through a very thin and hole-ridden disintegrating paper straw, never, ever, ever forget that it is SO MUCH BETTER than the fuckshit we had before it.
Yes, because Republicans did everything they could to make it not work. Early on, it was driving down insurance costs. We should at least make Medicare as one of the universal choices on the market in every state. Where a person can pay for it as their option.
I had a friend who lost his job. Decided he was young and healthy and could not afford COBRA. And that’s when he got the renal cancer diagnosis. And now he’s unemployable, and cancer is a preexisting condition. And now my friend is a statistic.
I hate COBRA, it’s such a bullshit copout option. “Well, you have access to healthcare if you lose your job!” sure, I also have “access” to buy a private jet but I still can’t afford it
Oh yeah, I have health insurance, but I also had renal cancer. The total bill for the year has been around $850k. It would crush anyone without insurance and you aren't going to live without kidneys.
Pre-ACA I had a claims processing job where I was working previously paid claims that needed to be denied because of suspicion of an undisclosed pre-existing condition... that was horrifying.
Yes. Even on most employer based health plans, if you were treated for diabetes prior to your coverage, they could refuse to pay your claims and meds for up to a year. And it happened every time you changed jobs.
We found this out the hard way. Left our good academic jobs to move East in 1997, planning to buy insurance to tide us over for a while through a freelancers' organization.
Right before meeting with the insurance rep, the test came up positive. We had to scramble to get back on COBRA. $$$ :-(
THIS dude is who’s running against Tim Kaine? Not that I needed any more reasons to vote but I am going to fill in that bubble VERY ASSERTIVELY in November, good grief.
I'm lucky--I'm old enough for Medicare now, and also have a very, very good, very inexpensive, local HMO system for my Medicare Advantage plan (I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area).
I will literally die if I lose access to my estradiol, metformin, cozaar, or CPAP parts (maybe not immediately, but this would be what kills me young). I'd destroy my life without my lamotrigine and Vyvanse, and it would not be slow or pretty.
I wonder if I can use this to turn my parents against him, since the only reason I'm alive is that the military healthcare system rerouted a plane to medevac me to the nearest infant heart-lung machine, 2500 miles away.
The year I was on Tricare as an adult thanks to the ACA, I got two surgeries.
today my locally-owned independent pharmacy wouldn't give me a flu shot, because I got laid off and my new marketplace insurance, although approved immediately, doesn't actually start until 11/1.
I will die if these two are in charge of healthcare. Between #Project2025 and 🧠🪱 the anti-vax 🌰 the only healthcare CDC will do is monitor women’s fertility while more die from preventable diseases 🦠.

Health care, shmealth care, as long as you've got your... health?

Interesting that there's no Wikipedia page for Hung Cao.
That was with 46.5 million uninsured people (2010). The ACA has dropped that to 25.6 million in 2022. https://www.kff.org/uninsured/issue-brief/key-facts-about-the-uninsured-population/
People sometimes don't believe some of the things that I have adult-with-my-own-insurance memories of dealing with.
I will never stop being angry.
And I know you're extremely well qualified as well.
People, please don't forget how bad it was before the ACA.
I mean; Pregnancy was a PRE-EXISTING CONDITION.
Right before meeting with the insurance rep, the test came up positive. We had to scramble to get back on COBRA. $$$ :-(
Died because they didn’t health *insurance*, not health care.
No notes. Sheer perfection.

(well, maybe not unusual, alas ...)
We hates it, rahaeli. We hates it forever.
I assume you saw this about free walk-in clinics? https://bsky.app/profile/universalhub.com/post/3l6slyc4kyl24
The J6 crew will have fucking nothing on the parents of kids with chronic illnesses who will go into rampage mode.
