They’ve both been involved in comedy roughly the same amount of time but the entire sum total of everything Bill Maher has ever done is nowhere as good as this thing Larry David did in 15 minutes to call Bill Maher a stupid piece of shit. The heart of a poster.
Also I had never heard of this but it made me laugh. I knew George was Larry David but I didn’t realize he was exactly Larry David just doing things from Larry David’s life.
Jason Alexander used to constantly talk on set about how what George was doing or saying was insane and nobody would ever do it in real life and Larry would tell him it was based on something he said and did exactly
I listened to the David episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend while out running last summer, and nearly fell into a ditch through laughter. The guy is just an incredible comic talent in every sense.
Jason Alexander has a fun story about how he learned only partway through filming season 1 of Seinfeld that he wasn't really portraying a fictional character.
Watching the show, you can see how Alexander starts out playing George as a Woody Allen-style character and midway through the first season begins playing him as Larry David.
Carol Leifer has a book out on writing a funny speech so is doing the podcast rounds. She wrote on Seinfeld and her LD stories are great. The Conan interview is so good and has a few stories like this
There’s a long clip-video on YouTube with the Seinfeld writers/actors/creators talking about most of the plot points that came from true stories, often LD’s.
This is what makes Curb more clear, as every season just leans more and more into what happened to him over the past since filming the previous season. And these things somehow only happen to Larry David lol.
on the other hand, a quick look at the nytimes comment section was enough to cause me psychic damage. there were so many people saying "you know, i can see both sides in this particular case"

He still got paid by FTX for sure, but he still ended up coming out on top.
"I did that Jason, I ate those eclairs!"
