That's Zuck! Only bother to change things if it increases profits. META: Where there is no such thing as a correlation between happy customers and product innovation.
See also: killing community reselling on Craigslist in favor of the scam ridden waste of time known as Marketplace. They just look for ways to crush spaces that take attention away from Meta. Once that attention has been captured and the rival platform killed, who cares if things are functional?
Followed for: knowing the Cory Doctorow term "enshitification" and correctly using it in a sentence. Bonus pts for dunking on Zuck b-c he's a d-bag rich guy with an island and delusions of being an Emperor (allegedly).
Reminds me I need to see if Doctorow is on Bsky...
Doctorow is not on blue sky and he's not coming until you can leave and keep your followers.
Federation has been promised, but not delivered. There's only one server right now. I think when (God I hope it's "when") they deliver real federation, he'll be here.
The delusions are real. He often quote the adventures & life-stories of Roman emperors at his company’s all-hands. He fancies himself being in the same league as them.
Same with me,I barely look at it. I went over to Threads this morning to take a look, and I think a lot of the trolls from Twitter moved over there. Looking at some of the comments, they're just as bad or worse than Twitter/X.
They gaslight everyone on Twitter and also on Threads and in today the Washington Post started the FULL ON GASLIGHTING with columns blaming people in opposition for being in opposition and not doing it very well and even when they did it fully it was wrong every time, MEDIA'S new gaslight
I like Threads. Blue Sky seems geared towards promoting the big folks & pushing small acts like mine to the bottom. 🧵algorithm doesn't hold small accts at the bottom, so it's good for folks like me. I like it here too, & happy both exist. I have a source for news again, after leaving X last year.
There's no promotion that I've seen. People follow what they want. They make feeds and lists, and share those. You can sort replies by time, oldest-newest, or the reverse. Even better, if there's 1.2k replies, you can see *all* of them (aside from any hidden by your, or trust & safety, filters).
Yeah it started on threads with the suppression of political conversations, then hiring a heritage foundation person to manage content, then suspending, removing, and/or throttling good posters. All of that just soured people on threads. Then threads ignored requests to fix the moderation problem.
I rejected threads because I would have to get the app and all the notifications and nuisances that come with it. With Blue Sky, I can just look at the website when I feel like it.
Indeed. I can not even get to 200 followers over there and zero likes on anything I post. It’s too frustrating to get no engagement at all, like I’m invisible.
Threads, Instagram and Fascistbook are all the same now, and getting worse. I won't be sorry if they leave the scene permanently, but I will miss some of the people, and groups who rely on it for funding and exposure. 😢
I think it's less throttling and more the way the algorithm doesn't really refresh well to show you enough of the things that you're there to see.
Both Twitter and bluesky refresh quickly.
Large accounts do much better here, but small accounts can be more successful over there, in my experience. Threads is more for conversation than broadcasting.
I reluctantly joined Threads when here was invite only. There was no one on threads tho, so I stuck it out on twitter. Now finally people are joining/using their accounts here.
I think part of of it could be that on Bluesky there are so many different ways to encounter the same post. The huge number different Feeds mean that not everyone finds posts the same way. This makes reach and discovery on here very different to on X and on Threads.
they openly bragged about supressing anything they deemed political, and even if you turned on the settings to see politics it was still throttled and they liked it that way unless it was hateful content against LGBTQIA and blatant racism. The only content Threads wants is the vapid shit from insta.
Facebook does not allow anonymity so I choose not to engage there. I reside in a VERY red state so for my safety I don’t use my name. I can do that on Bluesky.
For you maybe .... very little engagement for me ... liking lots, retweeting posts, creating a few ... virtually nada. Would love for there to be a 'Trending' function as well - would like to know what's going on in the world...
I feel the same, though I haven't been here long. Had more engagement with fellow progressives on Threads. And abandoned the X cesspool a few weeks ago.
Check out the different feeds you can subscribe to- I have News, Popular with Friends, Discover - and more. I think that might help you find more trends.
Could also be willingness to engage. I know I usually wouldn’t comment on more widely-viewed/national accounts just to not invite trolls/bots and keep my peace. Many comments were either never posted or if I did actually comment delete once the trolls came ‘round. Wasn’t worth it.
Maybe it’s because Zuckerberg/ Meta hired Dustin Carmack
(former employee of project 2025) for “cyber security” & people have caught on, & are already sick this the Be Best Bullsh!t
I think it’s due to better functionality: greater grouping, the packs others have generated for follows & fewer ridiculous personal stories that are a waste of time plus features that adept users want.
Threads also has almost no functionality to encourage exploration and use. It's almost like they fired the development team the day after they launched the alpha site.
No way anyone is actually using Threads right? It's all just corporate pages that post to Twitter/Threads/Bluesky/LinkedIn all at the same time I'm guessing? Actual organic user retention has got to be near zero
At some point the biased support of oligarch controlled media makes an election victory as illegitimate as one gained with the support of biased state controlled media.
The open source nature of the app prevents that, or so we're told. Right now they're planning a user model based on voluntary subscriptions for additional perks, but that won't give any individual more visibility.
It might crash and burn, but for now, it's the best we've got
I’ve got a whopping two followers. If the folks here would be so kind as to do something about that, it’d be much appreciated. I promise not to disappoint.
I couldn’t see any of my favorite larger accounts on Threads after the election. Your commentary on MSNBC was great during the election. I haven’t been able to watch since because they seem to jump on the “what did Democrats do wrong” bandwagon. Our focus should be on what’s wrong with with the GOP?
I've been studying RESISTANCE GUIDE: How to sustain the movement to win by Paul Engler & Sophie Laso, with Momentum. It was written during Cheeto's first term. I want to be involved with a formal, organized national resistance. Anyone know of a current resistance movement being formed or active?

The same is evident on Twitter. I only have a handful of the followers here that I did there. The difference in engagement is unmistakable. Leon is stifling Democratic accounts… Or what he perceives to be.
I recommend that you stop using hashtags, to raise your voice if you are still there.
I don’t agree-While getting rid of bots is excellent, because we all seek engagement with real humans… I’ve lost >15K followers.
I had a large account that I put an incredible amount of effort. I’ll be deleting my account soon. Not because of the loss of followers but because it’s not safe there.
What? Why can’t you delete your account? I haven’t tried yet but I’m going to. I’m going to wipe it off the site (three accounts actually. Furyu_Me was the first and most followed).
Before the election Leon tweeted saying that he was changing the algorithm so that the large accounts didn’t dominate, and the small accounts would have a say.
Translation-giving the bots and trolls the loudest voices. My large account was throttled.
Yes he is. I used to write threads on fascism using bills red states were passing as a way to explain so people can understand. I was first throttled right after he took over, and all of sudden hardly any engagement. Stayed that way for 3 months. Now it’s happening again
My experience too. It was so obvious what he was doing to liberals, progressives — anyone who caught his attention. I was gaining followers organically through my tweets and interactions and then he came along and all of that ended. Quickly.
I haven’t posted on Twit-X since Nov. 5th. I deleted the app but have to go back for the coup de grâce of my accounts. One which has over 10K followers. Or did. 🤷♀️ Joined in 2007. Hard to let go but it’ll never be good again.
After the muskrat took over, I was shadow banned. Zero engagements.
I wish I could say that as a small account engagement was better for me here 😢 I’m still trying to get my big accounts that used to follow me at twitter to fb here 🦋
Very few big accounts followed me on Twitter. If they did follow me, they rarely acknowledged my posts, or answered my questions. I hadn't engaged much in politics since I sat on freeways in the 70s and burned a few bras. Maybe my questions sounded dumb. IDK. This site is more engaging.
On Twitter I was so worn out scrolling through ads I didn't want to see that it limited how much interaction I had with actual people. I see so many more posts here than I ever did there.
Not all people follow people back, especially those with more of a name recognition. It would help if smaller accounts could get some more well-known ones to engage. We may not be famous but we are engaged with what’s happening. ✌🏼
I totally get it. Some people are being swamped with requests and have trouble keeping up the pace. It was a general observation I’ve had in both Threads and Blue Sky. I had 5000+ on X, but it took time to even get that many. But with most starting fresh here, I think many yearn to be seen 💙
The President nominates, the Senate confirms with a simple majority. At this time, the Senate is 50/50 and Harris provides the tie breaking vote. The House of Reps plays no role in Presidential nominations.
I couldn't stand X and was delighted to abandon it. Switched to Threads and have enjoyed it. Was surprised to find some likeminded people after being in the X cesspool, and it's easy to block the few MAGA intruders. So I don't really understand Threads criticism.
You've nailed it, if algos are promoting content they are throttling all other content. Bluesky demonstrates this via engagement metrics. It may be the first equatable social media technology.
That has always been Meta's gambit. Throttle content then get you to pay to reach your followers. It's why Facebook is now just a sea of sponsored ads.
My Threads experience is being hit with some post challenging non- belief in a dirty (atheism) right off the bat. Every damn time. And I don't discuss religion.
I have serious questions with bomb threats and such if this was a free and fair election with the Harris campaign here in Tucson unable to put their name on their office there was a lot of intimidation and threats of violence one thing I do know for sure Twitter X it's not a free and fair platform
It’s better here but as before happened on Threads, the trolls inevitably find us and bring their harassment and hate with them. For Trans people like myself, we can’t have discussions on mutual interests without the hateful intruding turning every thread into an exhausting defense of our existence.
Yes, you can. I'm not trans (though I am gay) and I report, block, and trash the hatemongers at every opportunity.
Just did five of them in the last ten minutes! 😁
Threads just doesn't have that same kind of connectivity that Bluesky and og Twitter have/had. Threads feels like an abyss, while Bluesky feels like a lovely community.
Before I left the other place a couple of years ago I was getting 2-4 2k like tweets per week. All of it progressive content. Then overnight I couldn’t get 10 likes on a tweet.
I joined when it was first made, and it instantly irked me how it was just a weirder version of Instagram, and just tried its damnest to force you to use other Facebook stuff too.
Same. Very first foray into it I was met with what seemed like what the Young Republicans foist on the country. Took it as a bad sign and left. Was never sorry.
Same. I love the Threads algorithm for finding like-minded people. But then, I don’t use it so much for politics as for my other interests. Still have not run across very many, if any, from the right.
There are a few, but mostly it all depends on who you follow. The occasional troll is easy to deal with there too. Use block or restrict, then hide their troll posts to starve them. I find restrict more fun than block so they can see me but can't reply. 😅
Ooh, I didn't realize how "restrict" worked. Good to know. I'll enjoy using it instead of blocking, though I haven't run into many MaGAts there in the past couple of days. Wish I had used "restrict" last week.
The worst part of Threads the last couple of days has been the trolls from BlueSky spamming every thread harassing users to come over to BlueSky. Funnily enough, they all suddenly appeared at the same time, and vanished at the same time.
I like it here. I've tried Threads, just didn't seem to have the same type of "connect" as here. I still occasionally go there but not so much. I haven't shut down my Twitter account, but honestly, every time I go for a visit the MAGAt vitriol is overpowering.
Threads just seems easier to connect for me. While I like BlueSky, it's harder to read and find connections, with so many posts from famous folks and random replies to unseen posts keep popping in. I abandoned Twitter a couple weeks ago. Just seemed to be becoming a MAGA cesspool.
I joined Blue Sky a couple of weeks ago. I am really liking it here. I will stay on X for a while but I can easily see me checking X a lot less in a month or two.
I am planning to check out Mastodon. Like Bluesky, it's a distributed system where moderation can't be imposed by the owners.
Haven't figured out how to do that here either. Lots more "famous people" here, so it's hard (for me anyway) to hear a lot of ordinary people's voices.
And please can we all try to simply block trolls, bots and click baiters who will inevitably get bored elsewhere and think they can wreak havoc here. Let’s not give them oxygen. We know better now, right?
I see a lot of people who used to be Twitter-famous saying that about Bluesky, but as a mere plebe poster I've never gotten more engagement anywhere than I have on Threads this last year.
My impression is that Threads algo is more of an equalizer and Bsky's is just more similar to Twitter
I had a threads account. It was very boring to me. I deleted it a week or so ago. I also deactivated X. This feels like home now. More and more each day.
Yes, I got bored quickly. Threads just didn’t ‘feel’ good. Plus I didn’t want an Instagram account. Most everyone I followed on the dead bird is now here!
I got pseudo depressed over time with X's algorithms that effectively separated people who knew each other, setting them adrift... & more importantly... keeping the rest of us from banding together... naturally. I re-found many original peeps in less than 2 days on #Bluesky by comparison. #friends
I cut the cord yesterday. My primary large accounts are here and followed and the starter packs have been invaluable. Lots of friendly regular folks here. Not having to wade through a sea of blue checks to find one non-toxic reply is sooo worth the break.
Is this the Kate that hosted the sarcastic "Antifia" Meetings & who assisted me when I first came to that Bird app? I was Queenie there and I'm Queenie here too. In any event, which ever Kate you are, welcome 😁
For a guy capable of producing super high-end stuff, Elon sure has trashed what is perhaps his perhaps his most visible offering. He should be working to give the world teleportation. I so want to be able to beam myself up.
Similar here but I did leave eX yesterday finally with the mass exodus/switch in just the last couple days. It happened pretty fast since Bluesky is now growing 1+M a day. I'm certain the last few not on here will be very soon!
I’m trying to figure out when to deactivate mine. I am finding pulling the plug on my 15 yr old acct hard. And I didn’t even have a following. But my bookmarks, groups, etc. but it will happen sooner than later :)
I posted something on X about five days ago, saying I was going to be migrating here and …
Zero likes four days later, and I couldn’t even find the post in my own profile.
I deactivated, since there’s no point to even saying anything on X.
I just joined here, but I'll keep Muskville around a while longer to keep an eye on what the "cult" is spreading. The community notes do come in handy as long as Elon doesn't bury it.
I’m not having that experience, glad you are. I posted almost identical posts here and Threads this morning. 60 likes and comments on threads, 2 likes here. I’m doing both, but have thousands of followers vs a few hundred here. It was a lot of work, don’t know if I have it in me again to build. 🤷♀️
Welcome! I know Threads so much better than how it works here. I find it overwhelming here. I took me so long to build my community on Threads. Plus, most are doing both sites anyway. I’m going with the flow but a lot of change is happening and I’m trying. It seems like there is more here. Enjoy! 😊
There is a starter pack. I don’t know how to make one, but I’m on one and that is how I am building. I bet you know enough people who are here too and could get on one. It really helps. It’s a lot to learn so we take our time, as long as we find our community, we will build again. One by one. 🫶
I thought so! You can add all the people you follow to it and post it to make it easier for people to know who to follow. But again, I don’t know how to do one. 🤷♀️

other people's ideas. Kinda like Musk.

Both Twitter and bluesky refresh quickly.
Then I say some real shit in a post, and nothing, crickets
Keep them; choose new and obscure interests; choose personalised ads.
Fuck about and find out….. (advertisers that support censoring….) 🥰
(former employee of project 2025) for “cyber security” & people have caught on, & are already sick this the Be Best Bullsh!t
Twitter used to be ok until Elmo showed up with $44 billion from his Saudi and Russian backers to kill it?
It might crash and burn, but for now, it's the best we've got
At least over here I have a clue
And bonus no M@sk or Z@ck
Ha! Here We Are & Still Strong.
Welcome Blue Sky !!
I recommend that you stop using hashtags, to raise your voice if you are still there.
😬
I wasn't able to delete my account before the 15th TOS date.
Even if I delete it, it is still there - so - I think just let it be ...there?
But I'm deleting for sure.
Give Elon 44 Billion to buy Twitter and wait a couple of years.
ACTIVE Users have plummeted! I gave out a little "squee" when I heard that.
I had a large account that I put an incredible amount of effort. I’ll be deleting my account soon. Not because of the loss of followers but because it’s not safe there.
I had already deactivated my trolling accounts
-and fly on the wall accounts-
Leading up to Jan 6th, maga were planning it out in the open.
Loved ones thought I was over-reacting; Throat Punch (in my mind) to gas lighters.
I spent most of my time blocking bots after I wasted too much time "debating" ~them~
BlueSky (bsky) is AWESOME!
Plus I couldn’t get much traction. No deck based desktop app. It just felt thrown together and poorly conceived to me.
The linear timeline never quite clicked either.
Translation-giving the bots and trolls the loudest voices. My large account was throttled.
Now he’s in government.
Good luck to us. To the USA.
After the muskrat took over, I was shadow banned. Zero engagements.
"we" ... do you have a mouse in your pocket?
~why, yes, Yes I do~ She does all the "dirty work"
😂 Thank goodness time flys when we are having FUN.
I know many people who gained followers very quickly and it takes time to vet and follow back.
And when I say quickly, I mean 10k to 20k followers in 2-3 days.
Right now we have a majority in the Senate, with Harris the tie breaking vote.
WHY doesn’t Biden add 4 additional justices to the SCOTUS now ?
The House has no role.
To change the current number requires an act of Congress. It was fixed at nine shortly after the Civil War.

Twitter became that a while back.
I, however, cannot share most of mine as I am a legendarily bad photographer. They don't call me The Guillotine for nothing 🤣🤣
They're on their way here. Be vigilant!
Just did five of them in the last ten minutes! 😁
We’re just seat fillers
Stopped using it after a day-

Still undecided about this site.
Your sense of humor cracks me up and I'm glad we met.
I'll be looking for you in this new land.
I've been here just a few days and I love it.
