In the era of social media, the fact that left-liberal/center-left people find it infinately more interesting to debate each other than they do to engage conservatives is, I think, objectively, very detrimental to our democracy. I don't know how we change this. I'm also guilty of it. It is a problem

We still have people on the left doubling down on third parties, on not voting, on bashing Democrats, and it's infuriating.
I don’t think it’s a a lack of wanting to engage but appropriately not wanting to support the owner
I think Kilmar Garcia should be returned under the 14th amendment due process.
You may think Kilmar Garcia should be here because...
We both agree that he should be on the plane next to Sen. Van Hollen by close of business today.
i think this thread does a good job of capturing the united in practice, endlessly arguing in theory:

Conservatives, to me, are lost.
I don't have answers, though.
How do you de-program half of a country...??
I once tried to defend homosexuality to my conservative family. They laughed
They have their truth, and it's very personal for them.
Give them facts, and it hurts them personally. Thus, you can't debate them.
It IS a problem but it's not one it's my job to solve. The people telling obvious lies could start any time.
Fuck off.
It's super easy to misread something if you don't even try
Dems are not perfect, but even the worst one is better than any modern Republican and we've got to somehow make most of those 90 million Americans that didn't vote believe that.
It is difficult to debate somebody who does not want to be debated.
There's a difference between debating committed conservatives and marginal conservatives
I know people who are socially liberal in name, and don't see that being fiscally conservative in action means you're also socially conservative in action.
Sure, you say you support the right to education, but you don't think the federal government should mandate basic levels of education? That's socially conservative.
Unfortunately, these people are boiled frogs, having been warmed so slowly that they now seem to genuinely enjoy being boiled alive so long as "illegals" are boiled too.
There's just basically none of those left. They're either unplugged entirely, brainwashed, or dedicated fascists.
We change this by blunting or changing right wing media.
Trump represents the resentments of 36% of the economy. Wealth tax, retributive policies against his constituents, make it 3%.
The rest of them can get on my level by reading an actual book.
Another issue is that the "big tent" of the CPC party includes candidates that even former MPs in the riding will NOT endorse. Debates may offend factions of CPC supporters.
They're just not interesting ideas. And it's not the job of non-conservatives to engage with them.
So they'll protest McConnell for a bill that would get nuked by SCOTUS before the ink was dry, but not for democracy?
The number of serious conservatives on social media (or anywhere, anymore) who are willing to engage in anything like good faith debate is vanishingly small.
Arab Americans punishing Kamala Harris for 50 years of insane Israel/Palestine policy: detrimental to democracy.
Done.
