All the bar associations together along with DEM state AGs need to write a high profile amicus briefs & submit to SCOTUS & go on all nat'l media like right wing orgs do that end up in front of Scotus.
Anyone know anything more about brave Rachel Cohen, the Scaddon associate who provisionally tendered her resignation depending on the firm’s stance when extortion threats inevitably came?
Marc, please explain to me why these law firms fear trump! Honestly, I don't understand why anyone is afraid of him but especially these successful law firms.
Thank you..
a law firm cannot serve 2 masters: Any law firm that gives in has put all their clients and potential clients at risk... and should be disbarred.. They Have a duty to the rule of law ( giving into extortion isn't it) and their clients... nobody else..
As a 25+ year practicing attorney who worked at some very large law firms, this capitulation is not surprising. Biglaw firms are filled with partners whose sole sense of worth is measured in dollars, and not in justice.
Yep for most law firms (big and small) the bottom line is EVERYTHING. In the end it all boils down to billable hours and increased rates and landing the big money clients.
No. They are only concerned about losing the business of those corporations and billionaires who can afford to pay $2000+ per hour, and most of those are on the side of the fascists.
I’m afraid they’re trying to manage him, trying to maneuver, they must know that trump hates people that submit to him, even more than his enemies. His self loathing translates into abuse. These people willing to abide his whims will never get to say no again.
They are mostly straight white men, so they will likely disgrace themselves. I’m starting to think that Republicans get turned on by demeaning themselves. It’s like the kink of the straight white man. They get turned on knowing that they’re harming EVERYONE around them.
trump has enacted nothing as a law since taking office. His edicts are all EOs. People keep saying we didn’t elect a king. That is true. He’s a self proclaimed dictator!
“They’re all bending and saying, ‘Sir, thank you very much,’” Mr. Trump said, adding that law firms are saying, “‘Where do I sign? Where do I sign?’”

If they cave, and it looks like they will, in 4 years time they’ll either be permanently representing the neo-fascist movement in America or they’ll be a disgraced laughing stock. Unbelievably blinkered decision.
I continue to say. Law firms aren’t about the law. It’s money first middle and last. Saying the courts and the law will protect our democracy is a lie. They are being lined up to allow and fight to let the destruction continue because they’ll get paid.
We need to keep a list of those who stand up so if a citizen needs an attorney to stand up to the regime in court, we can refer them to the list as people they can count on.
It's not like the people they're dealing with actually keep to their word, anyway. They'll always want more.
I don't remember details, but I've read about some studies that seem to show that once people get to a certain level of wealth that makes them comfortable and secure, more wealth doesn't make much difference to their happiness.

I don't remember the approximate financial level at which the effect levels off, but it was well below a million. After that, it's games and ego and hoarding.
For some, $ becomes an addiction not relating necessarily to
personal happiness but a need to feed the beast. Some figure this out and are able to break the addiction but some do not and these are the people usually in the executive decision making positions. The rewards system feeds the beast.
Current Skadden partners need a little history lesson about the founding of the firm, back in 1948, as an upstart - not as a white shoe elite firm. By caving in to Trump they will be shaming the firm and tarnishing its history.
They haven't really disgraced themselves: the disgrace was already present in a legal system in which money buys justice. Trump--who knows this as well as any person alive--has just laid the reality bare. All credit to you for resisting
A staggering $100 million in pro bono legal services has been allocated to Trump & his allies. It’s disheartening to witness these professionals compromising their integrity & disregarding the rule of law. They ought to be disbarred, as their loyalty appears to be with Trump, not their clients.
When Robert Johnson
made a deal with the devil at that crossroads in Mississippi, at least he got to play some pretty good guitar. These cowardly law firms will get nothing but continuing abuse and humiliation.
Isn't this capitulation an unwaivable conflict of interest? How can a law firm represent a client (Trump administration) that has threatened the firm AND its clients?
Do they not have confidence in their own lawyers ability to defend themselves when they are clearly in the right? Would you ever want to use them for any legal work?
No one had ever made a deal with Trump and benefited; no one. He betrays everyone, stiffs everyone, uses them until they don’t serve a purpose then discards them
To all the Skadden partners:You already have MORE than a nest egg. You are rich. And if you never work another day in your life you will die richer than 90% of Americans. Your kids have solid trust funds. Use your wealth and privilege to stop America’s complete decline. More money is valueless.
My guess is power and money. If they actually stood up to them and won, we would remember them for saving our country. (everyone would know them) Maybe it needs to be put to them like that.
Where is the arrogance and self-importance of Big Law partners when we (and they) really need it? Where is the partner ready to say “Nobody, not even the President of the United States, is going to push me around?"
Whatcha wanna bet these law firms get to Represent DJT and clown show in all the Federal and Supreme Court cases Pro Bono, taking away our constitutional rights. Good job folks!
I was just telling a friend at lunch today that I almost went to work at Skadden Arps in Boston years ago. SO grateful today that at the last minute I changed my mind, turned down their offer and went with another firm. We would not have been "a good fit" after all. May they find their courage.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
IF THEY STOPPED BEING SO CONCERNED ABOUT THE FEES THEY MIGHT LOSE AND MORE CONCERNED ABOUT PREVENTING A HITLER WANNABE FROM BEING OUR PRESIDENT..then maybe our democracy can be saved..THANK YOU MARC FOR BEING ETHICAL INSTEAD OF BEING A GREEDY WHORE THAT ONLY CARES ABOUT THEMSELVES
Hi Mark..wtf is wrong with all these high powered law firms bending over FORWARD so they can GET REAMED UP THEIR EXHAUST PIPE. Don't these partners and owners of these HIGH PRICED LAW FIRMS have any backbone or dignity? WHAT THEY HELL ARE THEY AFRAID OF?
Attorneys supposed to be pillars in the community and revolutionaries against injustice and corruption. What a huge disappointment to find out they’re sniveling cowards.
why are there so many pussies?? JHC...If everyone rose up and said NO NO NO we'd be in a much better place. Bullies can't handle being stood up to...time for everyone to STAND UP TO THE BIGGEST ORANGE BULLY on the planet!!
Alarm firm looking to get a deal instead of fighting and taking this administration to court knowing that they will win because what is being done is illegal such wimps we have in our legal field and Republicans
Hey guys, remember when Pakistani lawyers were lauded as heroes for standing up for the rule of law? I remember thinking that's the way US lawyers would behave in such a situation... https://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/01/magazine/01PAKISTAN-t.html

If they cave now, they will never recover.
It's not like the people they're dealing with actually keep to their word, anyway. They'll always want more.
They are either afraid of discovery or they have no real values or courage to fight back.
I can’t imagine who would hire them again after today.
Which probably won't even help them in the long run, and certainly won't help their children.

Money can't buy happiness, but as anyone without money knows, money can make happiness easier to pursue.
Hunger, illness, homelessness can make happiness more difficult to come by.

Seems like that’s a sure path to irrelevance.
I, ____________do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitutions of the United States
Nope
They'll be remembered as Turncoats
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me
AND THERE WAS NO ONE LEFT TO SPEAK FOR ME
Because I was not a Socialist.

This fund raiser and establishment democrat quickly bent the knee to MAGA and Donald Trump.
