Aw man.
Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found dead in their Santa Fe home with their dog.
Police don’t suspect foul play.
A gas leak perhaps?
Absolutely tragic. 🥺

If so, it sounds like a suicide pact.

Have more than just smoke alarms in your house folks. They now make ones for Smoke and CO2. Don’t forget to change out those batteries twice a year even if they’re wired into your home.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the bodies, and no note was found.
2 other dogs on the property were alive.
Autopsy & toxicology tests will reveal more.
How sad
Maybe just staged.
We are going to see it as it develops.
So tragic ! I hope no morder suicide.
To be respectful to Gene, Betsy, their family, and others on Bluesky.
But this is kinda’… odd.
She had headaches for weeks, but without one I think the story would have been a lot worse.

The decision wasn’t intended as negligible, simply convenient and cost effective.
Much of what I experienced growing up in ETX in an oil company family, was not the popular “evil” theory.
Safety was not the norm back then, and this was the beginnings of change.
I saw his wife back in November while shopping at La Montanita. She was a lovely lady.... So sad and heartbreaking.
I am guessing one or both of them had a terminal medical condition and they preferred to go together peacefully.
It’s hard to find one that doesn’t have it, no thanks.

Sad day.
I'm not normally nosey, but this is strange.
So very sad. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
My deepest condolences to the family, and all who knew them.
Hope THERE IS A INVESTIGATION. Thinking is was a gas leak isn't enough.

People ignore smoke and CO detectors until it's too late.
Change your batteries. Replace them all after 10 years. It's really cheap.
RIP Gene. Loved him. The blind man was brilliant 😉
But I really want to read the autopsy report on the dog before I eliminate natural death-suicide.
A different kind of gas leak with no smell can happen. It happens when the stove doesn’t circulate the unused gas back to be burned. It’s supposed to. It loses the smell and is released into the air so you don’t smell it.
The leak I spoke of happened to us. We would occasionally all feel tired, but one day it was really bad. If I feel bad, sometimes I go outside so I did that and I instantly felt better. That was my clue. Our gas stove was the only “poison” in the house. So…
It was just me, one kid, and the cats at home that day.
I felt sleepy but it was a weird sleepy and a feeling of pressure in my head.
I feel bad for them. By pure chance, roughly 30 years ago my ex and I sat about 5 feet from them when Second City came to Santa Fe and did a show.
something doesn't smell right...you can smell gas...I think or have a headache
Just like with Michelle Trachtenberg, I started shouting “NO! NO! NO!”
Something about losing everything else, makes losing people we celebrated just so much more fucking painful.
These are the worst of times.
