God, if it weren't industry standard I would stop using Adobe. Plus, most of us artist understand that we can't stop AI but it should not be forced on us

No, it's only an industry standard because folks don't work hard enough at finding alternatives, and explaining to their clients why they don't use it.
I will forever stan Krita 😩 It's not only a great Photoshop replacement, but a great Procreate replacement for people that don't use Apple products but love Procreate when they tried it out.
I remember when it was cheaper to buy physical copies of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop from Australia and ship them to the U.S. than to buy them domestically. Adobe has had years to master its middle finger wag to the consumer.
Would like to add that if you buy Clip Studio EX instead of Pro, you can animate with it as well (pro also has the animation feature but it's extremely limited). Also, for newer features you'll have to get a subscription.
also- medibang & firealpaca use the same file format, so you can pencil a gif in firealpaca (onionskin feature!) and clean in medibang. medibang has a paid version on steam with a bunch of extra features too, but it's kind of expensive. lots of options tho (its what i use :3)
Only one that I haven't found a perfect substitude is after effects... Davinci and Blender take a bit longer to get effects and compositing to work in a way that I like.... specially for my animations.
can def recommend Photopea. its a one-to-one browser recreation of Photoshop and ive been using it to edit my art for a while now.
can't believe Adobe is "industry standard" when all these programs here are perfectly fine alternatives!
📌 but just a quick correction that ibisPaint is a subscription for more features (Windows vers also has a single time purchase option) and is on iOS and Windows =]
Yeah Adobe promotes AI and are probably now loosing a lot of artists who has used photoshop.
Cause artists who earn money for their work won't ever support AI as it makes it even harder to get clients.
Cause why order art when you can *make* it yourself
I'm starting to care less and less about compatibility with my existing ~20 years of data; that makes more and more of this list viable for production going forward.
I finally lost my license via work and it actually hasn’t been tooooooo bad! Page layout is still the most obnoxious to work around, but honestly I haven’t needed to try hard enough to fill that gap.
I use procreate for my artwork, but I still have to touch up the art on a computer, paint tool SAI is good but lacks the image editing options PS offers and clients want

Most of that big list Adobe has different softwares for. Clip has it all built in!
So yes Clip all the way!

But since I'm rather particular about some specific things I use... I can technically use Davinci but some specific things get harder to do.

As someone who uses Krita since 2014, I cannot recommend it enough 🙏
