I think it's not just true but self-evidently true (even if most people aren't thinking in those terms yet). The whole thing is a grift, and utterly dependent on the Chief Grifter.
I mean at least before he would grift to keep getting enough capital, then EVs actually started delivering profit, now i have no idea what the plan is besides cronyism
I don't think true profit was ever achievable: automotive fundamentally is a thin margin, high risk, high capital business. Not something to generate great returns - but an excellent grift opportunity thanks to the incredibly long product cycles.
Eh. As long as the feds and telcos need to put shit into orbit and nasa/boeing are basket cases at same, SpaceX is probably fine. As John said elsethread, not "trillion dollar business" fine, but solidly if unglamorously profitable.
For the life of me i cant figure out who besides musk fanboys and taxi drivers complying with emission standards is currently buying teslas. And at some point there are only so many of those. The old consumer identity is disgusted by musk's politics and now has brand choice.

It'll reverse itself with Musk and Trump inevitably have their falling out.
Unconscionable the way he did it.
Perhaps a lack of focus and acting insane is alienating his potential customer base globally
Perhaps his shareholders and investors can show him the way ( exit )
Rhetorical question; is this one of the programs musk is recommending be cut as doge cohead
