This paper should be useful. It systematically looks at the difference among (self-selected and non-self-selected) student, MTurk, nationally representative samples.

In all honesty, given the lack of scientific control that our methodologies actually give us over the world, it seems more than coincidental that some of these methodological trends happen to raise barriers between elite scholars and the rest.
