If anyone is in need of a little holiday cheer, Tesla rolled out a software update for Christmas and it bricked a whole bunch of Cybertrucks

I'm curious what electricity sounds like?
DC stuff has a crunchy tinny ssssssss sound like warning up a hot plate, also in a car you can hear relays click
AC stuff has a godawful whining bzrbzrbzr sound
Be glad you can't hear it. It's impossible to ignore sometimes
*Physical objects* energized by electricity can emanate sound by vibration. 😀
But there is a detectable sound made when electrical things are being energized for some of us sensitive to it. Trust me it is irritating sometimes
Useful when fixing stuff tho 😅
Its a "design flaw". No shit sherlock.
What else we got?
I like Crytpo Pinto and Deplorean.
Doge = dodgy!
🤓
Although I do love vintage cars.
I happen to work, at the moment, for a major aftermarket auto parts retailer. And I've seen other things on modern cars that would be a non-starter for me.
For example, cars that don't have oil dipsticks. I'm not depending on a light, I want to fucking SEE the level of the oil for myself!
Glad my car had a dipstick!
Also, have heard it referred to as Augmented Idiocy.
I DO NOT TRUST AI.
Not only that, but - especially when buying a used car...I want to be able to SEE the oil.
One thing I do not want to see is sweet, clean oil...because now I wanna know what the guy is trying to hide.
No dipstick makes these things REAL easy to hide!!

It's just a rolling FYA statement.
There is no excuse for driving this thing.
A F250 is a bear to park .
A F250 diesel is the 💣
Best trailering vehicle EVER
Then they have the nerve to complain about gas prices.
"Bricked" bricked? Completely inoperable??
😈
But why does a truck have a system in it that allows it to be bricked in the first place?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That's a good example of why the SW update is architected in such a way that a partial completion bricks the system.

oh wait you're serious
Backup systems and redundancy cost too much to implement.
He will always take the cheapest path and lives by the idea that bandaids cost less than prevention.
It’s why his cars are horrible quality.
Are they? That's news to me and my 3 year old Model 3.
If you actually want to get back at Elon actually sell a better EV and don't just lie about it on social media.
Get off your ass, make a good BEV and I'll buy that instead.
Premium shit at that!

Shit cars from a shit company.
Or download and verify the whole thing first, then write
You can absolutely brick it with the engineering tools… but you can also bolt in a new ECU.

We all watched a 4ESS update take out all long distance calls.
So while we had really high QA mistakes did happen.

The real problem is "a grill that needs software updates" though.
I'm so naive.
1. Accommodate absent mindedness (adhd, busy, new parent, etc) when you panic "did I realize the oven on?" when you're across town and nobody's home
2. Accommodate mobility issues (difficulty or pain from standing or walking)
Someone, somewhere, approved pushing a software update to live on December 24th?
Is that even legal? It seems like it should be a crime. It's definitely a moral offense. It's very nearly a sin against God.

Great start to my day.
OK, yeah. I was piling on needlessly, sorry!!! Anyway, here's what I really wanted to say: https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-versus-delorean-stainless-steel-vehicles-2019-12
If I were an investor, I'd be furious.
Schadenfreude is always appreciated.
One of the salvage yards I work out of has an entire row dedicated to nothing but burned Teslas.
I definitely triggered some Trolls (defined by me as folks that can’t just scroll past something they don’t like).
He drives a Lexus. 😂
I wouldn’t call this experiment a truck, or rely on it, especially in remote areas.
How do you even modify this to suit different purposes like you would with a truck?
The comments were full of SO MANY dogwhistles. People clutching their pearls that someone added art to the property of a multi-billion dollar corporation, in a way that doesn't obstruct its function at all

His latest software update turned a progressive environmentally-aware manufacturer of EVs into an authoritarian oligarch supporting the most environmentally irresponsible govt in US history.
No screens, no bloatware, no problems. (and it handles mud and snow with no problem)
EV’s are a wet dream.
The problem is that techbros keep trying to reimagine the wheel as a triangle made of jello.
Also, "I heard stories!" doesn't sound very believable.
Again, recall them all, shutter the company.

we are going to end subscribing monthly to our cars just like you have to pay monthly to watch crummy old movies you'd buy in the discount dvd bin and watch forever
And there they stay.
He's the anti-Midas, everything Musk touches irrevocably turns into shit.
How does an E-Car company investor want to sell cars in a fossil fuel gov term?
If he was at least making sense for his own sake.
It's a bit too much missing brain matter for my liking.
I am aware this is about another and another and another tax break.
Still.
How is there no manual fallbacks design into that?
Then again, as former aircraft mech, having manual fallbacks and redundancy is kick into one's head. Along with ensuring those work properly. Though reminded of stuff I seen while working in IT now...
Is Elon KNOWINGLY trying to make the worst car of all time?
It’s a company that sells carbon tax credits. Which is why the other auto makers aren’t taking electric cars seriously. Why do that? They make and sell profitable trucks and SUVs that have horrible MPG, and pay Tesla for carbon credits.
This is going beyond even that.
On the other hand, when it realizes it's in a Tesla, the human race may be saved if it chooses to self-destruct.
:)
BRICKED!!!
