historically the bad faith stuff quickly moves into bedrock belief territory. the way all these reality breaks usually go is that once one of these groups is cornered and hitched to a disastrous idea, they double down and build a fantasy world around it bc it’s easier than admitting they were wrong

The totalitarian levels of bad faith and disingenuousness from MAGA is funny at one level but also deeply depressing because it’s the foundation for all this and until it cracks, I’m not quite sure how we get out alive.

People are upset, people of all political beliefs are negatively impacted.
Cults don’t end because suddenly every cops to the big lie. They end because a critical mass of people die.
Then again that requires emotional maturity that a lot of conservatives don't have...
It's better to accept reality than to delude ourselves into thinking there are easy solutions here.

But let's be clear that Project 2025 is also a deeply stupid plan that was designed by people who don't understand how things work much beyond how to destroy them.
They literally don't understand how what they're doing will hurt them too, because they really don't understand the work done by what they're destroying. They are absolutely stupid.
hate how conspiracists realized gestures at illusory or shitty evidence are more radicalizing bc people who vibe will dig in
that media/blog shit doesn't fly in court or peer-reviewed papers tho!
It's like a really terrible game of Telephone gone very very wrong.
Humans are ... excessively weird.
Our own arrogance makes us truly stupid.
(It's pretty much underpants gnome level thinking , just "tariffs, ????, profit", but it's also heartfelt.)

I think it's about the same level of madness, but with more immediate and obvious consequences.
Shit moves fucking fast.
Some people know more than scientists, because of that YouTube video
Some people know more about economists, because the casino bankrupting guy said it.
They're all the same people.
Until that changes - and it may not for decades to come - we don’t have a democracy or rule of law by courts guided by facts, law and precedent.
This is a melee in a mud pit with rusty knives.
The maga are gone and CANNOT be rehabilitated.
They must be demonized .
The rest of the nonvoters most fear them enough to vote against them.
Only way folks.
Democrats are consistently wrong and out of touch and they have never reflected or come to terms with their mistakes
It's relevant to a distressingly large number of social phenomena.
News orgs need to shift gears and become pro-democracy.
And lies get spread about out groups much more efficiently these days. We’ve got our work cut out for us.
"This bad thing isn't going to last" and "This is actually a good thing" seems contradictory, but what do I know?
Plus now all the building materials are going to be a gazillion times more expensive, because WE IMPORT THE RAW MATERIALS FOR A LOT OF THOSE.
