I don’t really get why intermission isn’t standard practice in basically every movie. For theaters, who specifically make almost all their money on concessions, it’s a no-brainer. When I walk into a theater, I’m full of self-control. After 60 minutes, I’m ready to spend $7 on some M&M’s.
Agreed. I have the attention span of a goldfish. Even movies I like, I’m going to forget half or more of over a year. By the time part 2 rolls around, I’m only 15% sure I remember enough of the plot from part 1 to fully get part 2. This is why I don’t go see multi-part movies at theaters.
I agree. I watched a few movies and miniseries from novels I read. The miniseries did a great job, but some movies didn't develop the story or characters as well.
The only caveat is that all of the movie is available at once. No more waiting for Season 2 and see it canceled, like with Netflix Kaos.
It’s kinda like the doubleheader. Why give them a 2 for 1 when they’ll pay twice? I agree, though: a longer movie with intermission would be outstanding.
And can miniseries just be miniseries? No more years of one-paragraph articles talking about a producer or star saying the vaguest thing about a second season to a perfectly concluded story.
That's why I abstain until all are available at the same time. I have little patience for my entertainment.
I do the same for TV series. Like Breaking Bad, etc.
God YES. Especially movies like The Hobbit. Why the shit was it 3 parts, the book is like 300 pages and if you really wanna go in depth just make it 4 hours long like you did with LOTR Peter Jesus
If "heads of industry" were actually smart people, movie theater corpo ceos would advocate for this - "let's all go to the lobby...let's all go to the lobby..."
But the truth is - they ain't smart...they just lucky shits.
Yes, I want it, but no, they won’t. Because real estate = money, maximizing returns, and streaming. Could you open $200/seat, small, movie with dinner intermission in Brooklyn and LA? Sure. But the rest of us are stuck streaming with sandwiches.
Intermissions sound awesome, if a movie is over 2 hrs I know I'm missing 15mins of it to pee anyway. Also move my legs, after that long in those horrible chairs I walk like a rugby team just tackled me to the ground
I'd love to have an intermission where we can take a lunch break at the consession stand + one round of Marvel v. Capcom at the arcade. My Muvico Palace 20 has an arcade on the first floor and resturant on the second floor.
Well designed intermissions can fantastic; they give the audience both a break and time to think on what they’ve seen, and they encourage filmmakers to stay on-point with their storytelling - you have to make each half it’s own short story with a particular idea.
Went and saw The Seven Samurai to distract from the election at my favorite arts cinema. The intermission made an enjoyable experience into a sublime one
Our local cinema used to have an intermission no matter what the length of the movie😱 - they got to sell more pop corn and ice-cream. Sadly it closed down a few years ago🤷♂️
Just make the two movies together and release them a few months apart. The Che Guevara movies with Benicio Del Toro were made together and released a month apart. I was hyped going to see the sequel because the original was still fresh in my mind.
someone may have already said this, but this would be the perfect way to bring back VHS tapes/VCR. If a major title just said "you know were going to release a new trilogy strictly on VHS," that would probably bring back video stores even. Thinking fondly of my double VHS "IT" from childhood i guess
I used to think I was ok with the multi part movies but many of them I feel aren't justified to be 2 and a half hour movies when one 3 or 3 and a half would serve it best.
That being said make movies short again if it doesn't need to be long.
Now, I just used the loo, got a drink and a sandwich in the intermission. But some showings of the 2011 restoration, they had a full-on break for dinner.
I saw the Seven Samurai in a theater recently with the intermission intact. It was awesome. Perfect stopping point to stretch for a minute before getting back into the film.
I feel this way specifically about spiderverse. I think the movie genuinely gets worse and worse the longer the hiatus is. That movie is straight up unfinished as is
Would also help the concession sales & would probably help in-theater attendance sales.
I for one won’t buy a drink since my bladder can’t take the 2.5 hour film + previews + effin ads which bloats the total runtime to like 3.25-3.5 hours. Even when I go beforehand.
Agreed. I think they need to work on caring about the movies they sink their money into actually being allowed the time they require to make those movies as intended first. But, eventually.
I want a return to the 80 min movie of the 80's 😔 I don't mind the occasional long movie but when so many I try to watch ranges in the 2.20hr mark.. Ugh, I just don't watch them until I really really feel like it.
3 years for Fast X 😭😭😭
I absolutely agree though. I'd have thought Cinemas would be all for it; you'd have time for a comfort break and restock munchie supplies 👍🏻
Yaaaaass! I said this during the height of lockdowns!! “When this is over, theaters should go back to the intermission model with dinner options during the show and reconfigured seating. Change the expectations all together.” It would probably improve the quality of filmmaking, too.
This would be a great move for theaters since they can actually make some more money, but studios want us in and out of the theater so they can have another showing as fast as possible.

Movies that are no longer than 100 mins or movies that are over 3 hours with intermissions
👍
Make that two intermissions. What are we, savages?
It’s worth the wait.
Plus then we will get some fun future double features!

Should be enough time to use the restroom.
If you’re not going to entertain me for at least 2.5 hours, why should I give you my attention???
I do the same for TV series. Like Breaking Bad, etc.
But people wants movie as Reels nowadays.

We all know we're going/have to pause stuff. Hell, thanks to one of the dogs it can take an hour to watch a 30-minute show 😅
looking at you MCU
That being said make movies short again if it doesn't need to be long.
One of my best cinema experiences was 5 the hour 1927 Napoleon, with 3 intermissions.
Movie is 3 hours

The poor movie companies need the money after all.
✌🏻
If long movie, then make it count.
