There is nothing wrong with being lazy. Some of the world's greatest inventions (dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, etc.) were made by lazy people just trying to work less.

A novel a year is like writing something like a Masters Thesis or a Ph.D. dissertation every year. The actual writing isn't as critical as the research and imagining, and running scenes in the mind's eye.

For myself the answer is no. It's possible to efficiently perform a process that is not optimized. That seems to be the difference to me. It's almost certain that less effort/energy is needed, overall, to optimize a process versus continuing to efficiently perform a non-optimized one. It will vary.
