What I do not think the Washington understands is that it’s not Trump in himself that’s discrediting us to the allies. Every now and then in a democracy, the people elect a turd. It’s that the Constitution gives them a Mad King Removal button and they are too cowardly and cynical to press it.

But this is kind of the view from north of the border: yeah it’s not that you elected a mad king, it’s that you elected him, have him serve a full destructive term, and then the American public and elite decided “hmm I’ll go for seconds” but now he’s crazier
Constitutional reform is required, not reinvention of the wheel.
For any Constitutional reform, we'd have to do that first anyway or risk a reform that locked in the worst of Trumpism.
Requiring college degrees is equivalent to only allowing landowners to vote. It fundamentally disenfranchises poor people.
How about we work on restructuring our government, improving social safety nets, and cutting off oligarchs money first?
The majority did not vote for him. And that isn't even counting all the people who didn't bother to vote.
We have a stupid electoral system and an elected legislative majority who are either as mad as he is or absolutely spineless.
The rest of the world has written off the us for a decade.
how Steamboat Willy w/ Mickey Mouse is 1928, and Fantasia a glow up was only 12 years later
everything changes so fast and also so slow
For better or for worse, "spreading democracy" is met with a lot of justifiable cynicism by people under 40.
Like not just MAGA,I would almost guarantee that to the extent there are non-fanatical MAGA they’re dissociating the way abuse victims and also abuse collaborators do when they know that someone is worse than they want to admit
They’re not in our reality
It's just evil all the way down.
it’s electing him AGAIN that has destroyed the alliance.
**On paper**, America is the most beautiful expression of human freedom, liberty, and democracy to ever exist.
In reality it's a racist slave state run by oligarchs and religious fanatics that obstinately refuses to live up to its own propaganda.
1) the American people don't just make mistakes with picking incompetent wannabe dictators, they double down
2) if the US executive & legislature clash, the decisive question is "how much of the legislature do the cultists hold": that determines the outcome.
But tbc the combination of 1 & 2 basically guarantees dysfunction: the least likely combination - Dems holding Congress and the WH -is the only functional gov now, & all other results are the kind of shitshow that "dissolve the parliament" is supposed to be for
We've currently got a failed government, but not in the sense that would somehow force snap elections. The elected GOP is still behind Trump, that's the problem.
