It’s wild that everyone who wants America to be “run as a business” seems to want lower taxes.
That’s not what a business would do if it had a monopoly and the violence of the government behind it to set whatever price it wanted.
A business would send taxes through the roof.

I think we may all soon be uncomfortably familiar with Morton’s Fork, although I suspect nowadays it will only have one tine.
Either way: it’s dumb
"Fruitless Foolish & Futile" 2 have a TV personality & failed businessperson who suggested absurdities with bleach be put in charge of millions of destinys like if granny gets medication or good nursing facility services in her Golden years
Entire analogy is ridiculous and badly thought out and makes zero sense.
They talk about how the primary way most people build wealth is through home ownership and at an individual level in some circumstances for at least a limited period /1
This is painfully obvious when you put it in words.
Job #1: increase income.
Can you raise the price on being American without making it significantly (in business terms) less attractive?
Ah, yeah - think so. See: the '50s and '60s.
1. Private equity owners
2. The business they are stripping
Private equity makes money for itself, but it loses more money than it makes; it’s just that the money lost in the business they are stripping doesn’t end up on their books.
They're happy to ruin regular people in any way they can, including by regressive taxation...
And through the roof.
Oh, right...
Resort fees for talking to a live person at USCIS.
Billionaires who are free to move between countries are being offered low taxes
Those who would find it hard to move and are hence at the mercy of state power will pay more and get less as the state is gutted
Rationale behaviour for a totalitarian state.
Same end result. Robber barons.
Amazing how many "Econ 101" types refuse to admit this.
I've worked in the legal dept of several businesses. Their best moments are when they follow regulations and industry standards.
Every successful business, even the ones that are synonymous with absolute evil like Wal-mart, at least started with a community/employee focus before getting large enough to not care.
Middle class and below will just pay for all common good that continues to exist (also tilted to the priorities of non-paying wealthy) AND all the privatized services will be much worse and massively more expensive.
Also, you don't want the government to be for profit.
-Government provides for the needs of a diverse population.
-Government provides for equitable standards for all.
-Government includes everyone.
-Government is assessable for everyone.
Oh government is a DEI
Employer!!
