If the choices were give the fascists everything they want via a vote or give it to them by obstructing and shutting down the gov why choose the former?
Hi! So... I am a woman and I have worked in tech in Silicon Valley. I have been harassed online since 2013. I was raised by a narcissist. I'm somewhat of an expert on condescending douches.
You are absolutely being insufferable and sneering.
But really I am happy for you, that fascism will give you more opportunities to sneer at anyone you label “liberals,” which is what gives your life the greatest meaning.
I understand these times are hard, and scary. And that you have pinned your hopes on a party that was never going to save you. And that creates a cognitive dissonance that is uncomfortable to confront.
But in your own words, you have acknowledged the truth. If one party is fascist, and the other
party does not try to stop the first party from doing the fascism, what does that make them?
I am taking no joy in this. I am trying to encourage you to look just a little deeper. Especially someone with a platform as large as yours. The democratic party is not going to save the people. We have to
I appreciate being instructed because, you know, as a criminal defense attorney and First Amendment advocate, it is totally news to me that Democrats suck.
JSYK, I've said the exact words you did in your initial reply before and I totally meant for them to be condescending and sneering at the time and generally say them sort of about or around ppl to my friends/followers - not as part of an actual attempt to engage in good faith convo with them. 🤷
There's ways to get the same sentiment across that are more polite and open to actually starting a conversation that might have led to you and OP here realizing you're actually on the same side.
Just food for thought. (and yes that last bit was meant to be sort of snide, for the record)
Maybe stop punching left, the people on the left have been right all along. We get that you’re embarrassed that you’re just figuring out all this, maybe instead of being pissy about it you could listen to people smarter than you.
Eh, like the people to the right, the people to the left are a mixed bag. Some of them would just as quickly put me in a camp as the people on the right. And some of them have their whole “personality” wrapped up in how much they hate “liberals.”
And hey, your side keeps preventing us from having a modern health care system, fair wages, and housing, while maintaining the violent oppressive police state so why are you whining so much? You’re still getting everything you want even when Republicans are in charge.
Man what are you talking about. No one is punching left, and honestly who cares? Congrats for being right the whole time (as I was too) do you honestly think if we listened to you this wouldn't all have happened?
I sincerely apologize for implying that some leftists are shallow shit-talkers whose entire personality is bound in talking down to “liberals.” Clearly that was a caricature.
America hasn't had any even moderate leftists with political traction since the FDR administration. Every other highly industrialized country has the Bismarckian safety nets in place, which will not work as for profits.
If you were genuinely trying to be empathetic here and not aggressively condescending you've basically done the equivalent of trying to sincerely praise someone and saying "Way to go, Einstein!"
Liberals have constantly shown that they will either ignore or attack leftists regardless of our approach, all while belittling us for not falling in line when the Democrats come knocking. Why would I waste time with niceties?
Also your attitude makes no distinction between those who see the Democratic Party as "the lesser evil" and those who see the Democratic Party as "the good guys", and treating the former the same as the latter accomplishes less than nothing.
Like if Popehat was like "it's so sad that the Democratic Party keeps being ruined by a few bad apples" you would have an actual point. Instead you sneer at someone for not agreeing with you on what is ultimately a semantic distinction between action and inaction.
“The person I’m talking to will ignore or attack me anyway, why should I care how I talk to them” is troll behavior I’m sorry to say. You’ve already decided what kind of person they are and you’re reacting to that by being a douche. Then getting indignant when they don’t take you seriously! Log off.
I tried to call Schumer's office. They just hang up on you. Same with Gary Peter's office.
Only one who let me express my opinion was Sen Elissa Slotkin.
Chuck Schumer has betrayed the citizens of this country! It is time for him to retire. Plus, boycott his new book!
There's more people like you who tried to call. Find them and organize to get as close to sitting your butts on his desk until he answers your concerns as it gets. If your ass is on the line you gotta get your ass out there.
I think it’s (a) a fascist party, and (b) a party looking at the fascist party and saying “hey, can we play too, and is there anything we can do to help you guys?”
You have a party would be happy to genocide every Palestinian and a party where the leadership would be a bit uncomfortable with genociding every Palestinian, so it's not bug it's a feature
I am sick. No more donating to the party I will donate to organizations fighting trump now and any progressives willing to primary these shit show actors enough . Their complacency is the reason this horror show is even in office they learned nothing
Most of the killing was done at the orders of higher up. The Nuremberg laws came out of Hitler's and other top level Nazis propaganda and when there was push back, some Jewish husbands of German women were released (and got out of Germany as fast as possible.
My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Go home and get a nice quiet sleep.
The core premises of the current Democratic Party leadership are (1) the majority of the people are too uninformed or too stupid to understand the peril the country faces and (2) preserving their own jobs is the most vital strategy moving forward.
And in believing #1 (a fallacy), they will utterly fail at #2. Even Adam Schiff should worry. This is one of the more salient points in US history. People will remember how they voted on this legislation forever.
Perspective from Canada: you have one party with two names. The half with the (R) says all the terrible stuff out loud, the half with the (D) pretends to be offended by it but then votes to approve everything anyway.
Its telling to me that even you, who I would hardly call a staunch Democratic partisan, sees this but the leadership and elected officials of the Democratic party generally don't, with few exceptions. It's apparent to even the most casual observer that this is the time for bold actions
I am someone who grew up with an abuser. As a kid I thought I could do things to make the abuse less likely. Only as an adult did I look back and realize she was always going to find a reason to be abusive and no placating on my part would change that
When we think of a Coup, we tend to think of it as a "hostile" takeover. But it honestly looks like we have a party conducting an easy-peasy Coup, in part due to a large number of loyalists in place but also thanks to the other party who keeps trying to govern as usual.
"Ryback details ... how a country with a functional, if flawed, democratic machinery handed absolute power over to someone who could never claim a majority in an actual election and whom the entire conservative political class regarded as a chaotic clown with a violent following."
I really do think that the defining feature of the current dem party is "we don't stand for anything but we like winning elections", a collective of the dril "staring at the audience dialing up the racism" memes
And the republican party is genuinely the joke from Lebowski, "at least it's an ethos"
That fascist party has successfully convinced the voting public that fascism isn't real and couldn't happen here if it was and therefore anyone calling it out must be exaggerating. Not sure what the way out of that is. Probably to just lay down and die
i’m going to play the optimist for just a second - we vote as many of them out as possible in the mid terms and replace the party top to bottom with younger, hungrier people who give a damn.
In the same way that the Republicans have been taken over by MAGA. It’s probably the only way the Democrats can continue, cause this obviously isn’t working.
Fascist in Spain, classist, not so much racist as all "those people" had mostly fled Spain or had been expelled. Every other Fascist party had some group to kill. US former confederate states were fascist overtly during secession and fascist dixicrats after based on what I saw in South Carolina.
Does anyone really expect Americans to give Dems the benefit of the doubt? They have endless grace towards Republican fuck ups but will never afford Dems the same. Shutting the govt down is a loser.
🤔 We have a shadow-Plutocracy. (A) are a party of “go fast and break things” vulture-capitalists, fin-tech crypto currency arsonists and Christian-nationalists. (B) are the party of culture-capitalists, fin-tech speculators and tech giants.
The top 1% consolidated wealth after 2008 and will again! 🤬
B) is because the congressional @democrats.org are fundamentally lazy. Even when they're in power, they take the path of least effort. Go back through the last several years. You'll see the pattern. Load up on vapid, pointless going through the motions. Shirk from every hard work fight.
There are a few who get it... but how they hung Al Green out to dry? The entire leadership is craven and unwilling to disrupt the status quo even as that is being corrupted.
If there's 10 people sitting at a table and one of them is a Nazi then there's 10 Nazis sitting at a table.
You can't want to get along with the fascists taking over and NOT be one of them. They still want to put on robes and wigs and play pretend under the fascists.
Basically most of the developed word is beginning to understand what every poor American kid has always known. America is/was and always will be a dog shit country, with dog shit people, that's only claim to fame is imaginary exceptionalism. America was never special except in its own mind.
California had one exceptional Hispanic teacher who brought out excellence in his minority students. The establishment edu flunkies made his students retake their achievement tests under heavy proctoring. They still did well. Some groups normally get crap educations.
Unfortunately there are quite a few teachers I believe could be exceptional if they were given the resources and class sizes to do so. We need to rethink education from the ground up. Focus on critical thinking, creativity, and STEM.
Yes, but the Texas Republican Platform a couple of years back was opposed to critical thinking. Creative classes are general aimed at exposing kids to art so they don't catch dose later in life, and Science is being rather roundly attacked by the Trumpazoids.
More like Hindenburg (the politician, not the airship), the German politician who ostensibly didn't like the Nazis, but handed power over to them anyway. The comparisons to non-Germans are deceptive.
If we just give Sauron the ring now, all the peoples of Middle Earth will be in really bad shape in 6 months, then we strike... with a strongly worded scroll.
Now, fetch me my horse, I am off to promote my book.
And that party that doesn’t want to make a big fuss about fascism is absolutely capable of making a massive fuss should they ever be challenged from the left
Their actions over the past decade (or several) pretty much tell you the answer (most of them are okay with fascism as long as they themselves can claim they were trying to maintain "decorum," whatever that is).
The Democrats thinking seems to be “what Trump is doing is so self-evidently bad, we don’t need to do anything, just wait for the American people to see it and then they will rush back into our arms.”
This was also their thinking about January 6th, and look how that turned out.
It makes it rather difficult to convince the people who think we’re overreacting about being on the precipice of losing our democracy when Dems keep voting for the autocratic bills and nominees…
Schumer's argument that Trump wants a shutdown and would be able to do more damage to the government in a shutdown seems belied by the fact that Trump has said he wants the CR passed.
Saying, "A shutdown gives Trump and musk lots of authority to decide what stays open and that just makes their job of closing important parts of the government that much easier" is super accurate.
"This bill is bad and hurts people" is also super accurate.
Saying the second thing and then acting on the first thing is just very bad messaging.
It makes me think that the party is split and this is probably not a great time for that. Assuming they want to accomplish what little they can accomplish with a minority.
Cynically, it feels like the Dems believe things will go badly enough for Trump that they’ll get their turn behind the wheel of the fascism bus next - which is why they won’t stop the crash or combat executive overreach.
@schumer.senate.gov floor speech trying to justify his cowardice & lack of leadership just weakened @housedemocrats.bsky.social & @senatedemocrats.bsky.social even further! He just forecast that a shutdown = his worst case scenario setting Dems up to get steamrolled re: budget/debt ceiling in Sept!

I swear, just keep digging into how those fucks have operated across the decades and you’ll be just as angry as any of the rest of us.

This is an historic day.
Ooops.

Not a good combination
Way past time to find a better party. I vote Green. You should too
Don’t let the Democrats pay for democracy
#StopTheCoup
#ResistNow
Nearly the entire Dem House caucus voted no, as will most of the Dems in the senate.
BARTENDER: We got both kinds: Cunty and Western-Civilization-Ueber-Alles.

We’re the frog in the pot, temperature’s rising, and the world is telling us we’re being boiled. We don’t want to jump out and make a mess.
A) Fascist party
B) Collaborators
always have

And the republican party is genuinely the joke from Lebowski, "at least it's an ethos"
There is no game, only endless skin.
General strike.
Yet.
It does mean you are taken, correctly, for someone willing to be abused for no purpose.

I think it's an institution of people who like putting on robes and wigs and playing pretend
You can't want to get along with the fascists taking over and NOT be one of them. They still want to put on robes and wigs and play pretend under the fascists.
"Uh, isn't 'displeasure' a rather strong word?"
Oooh, good point. We should discuss that.

Now, fetch me my horse, I am off to promote my book.
Another fascist party. Even silence is complicity.
Support it, you are it.

The Democrats clearly want to oppose the Republicans, but they are absolutely not working together.
Just on that one bill. We got two completely different messages and they were both right, but you have to pick one.
"This bill is bad and hurts people" is also super accurate.
It makes me think that the party is split and this is probably not a great time for that. Assuming they want to accomplish what little they can accomplish with a minority.
In other words, we have not seen in a bar with another party.
The German joke goes, “what do you see here?
A Nazi bar.
