This looks like the phone on the cover of Chuck Klosterman's book "The Nineties" - which would make sense, even if I personally never saw one until said book cover.
My life was MADE when I got this phone. Had nobody to call or call me but the same 3 people, but baaybee, when my phone lit up like I was in the future...it was everything and all the things. What a time.

Not sure why the "Prison electronics" aesthetic became such a big thing in the 90's but I do kind of miss it. Seems quaint now
