It was the first time I encountered a thing perfectly designed to do what it said it did and nothing else was removed in favor of a thing that did it almost as well but with more ads. It really should have been the canary in the coal mine.

Yeah in retrospect, but at the time I remember Facebook being about the same age as the other social media sites that came before had been superseded, so it made some sense to invest in making a new one. Also GReader didn’t generate enough money in exciting enough ways but cost money to run.

second @midnight-eyes.bsky.social. Feedly is not GReader but it's a decent replacement. It's one of those apps I couldn't live without. There was an attempt at adding ads but it seems to have gonewithout much fuss

Try Feedly! It's not the same as Reader, but it's a decent replacement. I have about 80 blogs/sites that I follow on there and it works quite well!
