We should be increasing the digital services tax to fund a transition away from US Tech.

Examples:

Switch government PC’s to Linux not Windows.

Fund a Linux mobile OS switchover (a good project for EU collaboration).

Offer Apple a huge tax break only if they move their HQ to North West England.

Tech companies can shift profits anywhere globally through disingenuous brand fees or other accounting tricks. The turnover based digital services tax is well designed, to ensure some taxation occurs in the country the actual transaction takes place.

I don't think it is difficult to decode this. The narrow UK/US aim is to try to mitigate the damage of recent 2025 tariffs, esp on cars. It is not the priority relationship, and the UK government won't do things with the US that limit the EU reset. Unlike vice versa.

He’s not transactional. He’s abusive and coercive. The only thing he wants is concessions he can use to escalate the abuse. And you’ll get tariffs anyway, regardless.

TBF the only optimistic briefing about a US-UK deal seems to come from the US side, while the UK is ruling out any change to food standards, saying it will align with CBAM etc. It's not good that they will water down online safety and the DST but Starmer seems to be going that way anyway.
