There’s a reason why I post less and less often to mastodon. I posted this today as a situation for how to partially disenshitify Google.
I rarely use Google, but many do. I thought they might appreciate the tip. Instead, just a long line of people queuing up to scold me for using that platform.

When I'm back on my computer I've to try setting it permanently, hope that still works... https://www.reddit.com/r/google/comments/ppfs5/comment/hnl7ffp/
My restraint in not replying "learn the f-ing definition of 'association' " is also shocking.
The only viable future: learn coding, host your own github website with an open API linked to PubPeer. All this can only increase efficiency.❤️

I really only use Google for maps or, occasionally, breaking news.
I'm going to have my phone degoogled soon.
Not even the CIA can see what you're doing! It's totally secure! Believe us!
every so often i try the other niche search engines, but straight back again
Bing is also pretty good if you don't need to find what you're looking for.
great tip - thanks for sharing, and sorry that mastodon wasn't ready to hear it.
And yeah, I also felt like the vibes on Mastodon weren't great. I did make account, but largely abandoned it.
I also tired of explaining filter bubbles to my K12 students.
If a person still chose to use Google, it was still my responsibility to help them get the best results possible.
Thank you
(Thank you for the tip.)
Meh.
I assume you have another search engine you prefer to google?
You might enjoy following John Mueller on LinkedIn if you don’t already. (Works for Google, great guy & thought provoking posts)

Mastodon is basically Geek Social Fallacies writ large. People don’t want to block entire servers for the actions of one reply ass, and even if they did, there’s no good way to surface it.
Bsky has the nuclear block, which helps a lot.
Thanks for the article share.
Opting out is a fantasy.

A smart site would just change all responses to be positive to the user. AI could do this.
I still hang some at Mastodon, but about 85% of the people I was excited to find and follow have been driven off by that kind of crap.
