My producer sent this to me and off the headline I was like "oh right, so she got hit by a loose round"... but then when you see it... like, that officer saw she was a reporter and shot her ~on camera~. Absolutely wild. Hope @laurentomasi.bsky.social is ok.

I ~really~ don’t think it’s some scheme to defend the police. “Caught in the crossfire” is a common cliche that I’m sure someone just reached for while rushing to publish.
You’re a journalist with a big fucking platform
Words and language and ways things are reported should be your thing. You should be a bit sharper than this given I’ve seen you level some pretty sharp critiques before
You should critique it fiercely
What I was trying to say is that whoever wrote the post was incompetent, rather than deliberately trying to cover up what happened.
If you’re doubting that anyone thinks it’s a deliberate cover-up, let me know and I can point you to the posts.
When authoritarian power is involved I’m not sure semantics like that really matter — both are useful tools
It's not a deliberate conspiracy with a style guide for propaganda word choice about crossfire, but it is a deliberate decision to consistently run the official police line and obscure their agency.
I think for many it remains literally unthinkable.
It's a great example any journalist should be reflecting on and thinking, yeah, not good enough, rather than excusing, as "oh that's just how we write"
‘Caught in the crossfire’ is not a common expression used in Australia unless you are singing along to Jumping Jack Flash
Surely the Nine Media could just tell the truth.
“Australian Reporter Shot with her back to LA Police while reporting”

She was targeted.
It's nuts that people are defending this or acting like she was somehow in the line of fire.
Still no LAPD statement.
Caught in the crossfire implies the reporter was in the wrong place...ie their own fault..
Targeted and shot implies...what actually happened
It’s not a common cliche. It’s a common malapropism.

Leaders are we okay with this asking for friend.!?

Caught on camera too.
Next live bullets.

Is Israel sending weapons to America? #auspol
@albomp.bsky.social
Probably joined Trump’s ICE Gestapo.
No covering up what is on full display in America.

That video is absolute evidence that it's not "crossfire" but one-sided, very intentional mis-use of less-lethal rounds, and finally (1/2)
"Kinetic impact projectiles should generally be used only in direct fire with the aim of striking the lower abdomen or legs"

This is disgusting and our government needs to put out a travel warning right now!
