Well, the ultimate stupid thing Trump could do is put a tariff on imports from Greenland. No disrespect to Greenland, but not in my entire life did I see a label on anything I purchased made in Greenland!
This would be not only awesome, but Canada has the largest inuit population in the world, followed by greenland, so it could work culturally too (among other reasons) just not the USA tho
The way Russia sold Alaska to USA. Imagine if Spain had sold Florida to Canada and you had a Province stuck out of your land mass. Alaska should be part of Canada Eh!
if any americans or canadians reading this would be interested, i’m making a discord server for americans considering asylum and canadians willing to help out. i’d be happy to send you all a link if you’re interested!
That would make Trump work harder to annex Canada. How about this Canada joins the EU and we help you to defend Greenland until you decide whether to give them full independence (also make sure to include Greenland in the EU as well, if that happens, to spite Donald Trump.
Not only that but the Greenland would be encompassed by EU territory so that would allow the people of Greenland to become independent if they want to but remain in the EU, with that independence protected.
That may be. I don't think Greenlanders are unhappy I agree. But there is an independence movement in the autonomous territory. Knowing Canada has also had an independence movement in Quebec, that will make its presence felt depending how strong it is.
That wasn't my point. Since 1968 it has influenced Canada's evolution as a state. Bilingualism and Multiculturalism policies all derive from the threat the independence movement posed.
I know many Quebecois. They have their own ways for sure, but few want to be not-Canadian. Tough people, tough province for sure. Have you been there? Friend of mine worked up north there, chefing & helping Inuit. I've been to Montreal & surrounds 3 times. Beautiful old city. They take no Poo ever.
We are meta-communicating to the American population.
They are not "reasonable" humans - They take stuff like that at face value.
Sorry, but I disagree with you, there's enough horse shit flying around, no reason to add to it
As Denmark being our only other land border than the US (after a lengthy border dispute involving booze) I think Denmark should be our new closet ally and neighbour
To be fair, this would be a good political stunt for a day, to replace all of the danish flags with canadian flags, and just play the Canadian national anthem. Sovereignty would all still be danish, but they pretend to be canadians 🤣🤣🤣
Canadians don't exactly have a very good history of treating Indigenous people right, so I wouldn't be so charitable. Greenland's Inuit people should be very wary of white people, be they conservatives or liberals.
please do what you can! it genuinely makes me sad that this gov't is attacking people who are essentially our best friends. however, do know that we are not a monolith, and i shall continue resisting how i can, for everyone's sake, as i have been.
Good joke, but it’s definitely not a great idea. Denmark treats Greenlanders far better that Canada treats their northern people. Canada should be embarrassed and ashamed and should be asking Denmark for lessons in good governance.
Trump is proposing to relocate all Palestinians out of Gaza. He wants the US to pay and clear the Gaza demolition site, as he calls it. He wants the US to take over Gaza and redevelop it. He wants to grab land for himself, Trump Hotels. What happened to America First. He's screwing USA.
Russia didn’t want to sell it to the British and sold it to The States basically to surround their enemy.
And it was pretty expensive at the time.
We really should have bought it.
Look at the globe from the proper perspective. The North belongs together
The real joke here is the assumption that Starmer isn't just vibrating with eagerness to submit to Trump. Dude's doing the same shit on a smaller scale in the UK right now.
Something like 78% of the residents of Greenland are against Denmark selling their country to the US. Who would want to be controlled by this fascist regime?
I would do it...if I had ownership and was even thinking about selling it. The LAST person I would sell it to would be the Felon-in-chief of the United States for the people of Greenland to be treated like the Puerto Ricans are by him and his cohorts.
After reading some of the comments here, Denmark and Canada can work together to help them build their own government and apply for NATO membership which should be fast-tracked in case Trump does decide to make a move on them.

For the millionth time, she can't. She don't want to, but that's irrelevant - She can't sell it, Greenland is Greenlanders property
What will it take to make people understand that things have changed? “They can’t do that” is so quaint and 20th century. What’s stopping them?

Canadians would do almost anything to
help their democratic allies.
Might make things a bit strange for a few government officials, but that would be it.
but without a declaration of "continue to follow denmarkian rule of law and administration", taxes and etc would be directed to Canada

They have a new prison for 40,000 intakes.
Then sell it to Trump like it was the Brooklyn Bridge

It’s time America learns a lesson, that they’re not top shit.

I’m 🇨🇦, and I’m saying this.
The current situation definitely seems like neglect. If it keeps happening then maybe it’s an option.
There would be so McDonalds on the White House walls.
And it was pretty expensive at the time.
We really should have bought it.

I hope I'm wrong, but...
Imagine that Trump could help Canada grow as a nation and have Greenland as a new province
For no-one!
