Yes, atproto/Bluesky needs a thriving ecosystem to win!
The web wasn't built by Netscape alone. It was an ecosystem with many win-win business models.
Fixing social is a huge opportunity.
Busy, but I'm willing to advise any org serious about doing big things on atproto/Bluesky: [email protected]

The longer Bluesky goes without competition, the sooner this decentralized social media experiment fails.

of which there is only currently one?
For example, it's possible to have your handle be @linustorvalds.social and have aliases like @linus.linuxfoundation.org proving affiliation with the The Linux Foundation.
pls talk to good used car salesman or Netflix marketing exec about building trust w/customers & massively growing a non-tech-savvy user base
picture your wise saucy grandma who can’t use Instagram w/out help
make verification work for her

There would be no mapping for "nytimes.biz" and no icon.
Domains can also be labeled as "impersonation" domains and they're not free, so the battle is winnable.
Nothing is perfect but this would be the best yet.
It's not currently surfaced/supported properly in Bluesky but IIRC the first entry is designated as the "primary" but others could/should be shown as "aliases".

You can be pretty sure @georgetakei.bsky.social is George Takei just based on the fact he's got a huge number of followers.
(assumes some features, like they're not all bot followers, etc)
Couldn’t @bsky.app be seen as an on-ramp to @atproto.com for average users?
As more federated apps come online they can port social graphs with greater ease.
And there's the possibility to create new apps on atproto that integrate with Bluesky (or not).
And lots more!
Between Threads, X, and Bluesky, there are already three “Twitter replacements” that provide similar features, with no standout feature other than Bluesky’s focus on decentralization.
Perhaps something like Brave?
I hope that atproto and Bluesky will be able to resist to attacks by big monopolistic actors (mainly Meta and Google I think) if it begins to threaten them.
(It took Google to degrade it but even they couldn't kill it)
