The terms are standard according to my 10 year old grandson—who reads, speaks and writes Mandarin and is in the 5th grade for both English AND Mandarin.
REALLY hard to take your concern seriously as you have NOT ONE follow/follower account that is REMOTELY non-White. FYI: WOKE means having an INTUITION that prejudice or racism is being used AGAINST you in a situation and having the presence of MIND to sidestep/advocate for yourself as needed.
Hopefully this whole REDnote "revolution" will help educate more people on the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese as well as when it is okay to just say Chinese...
Yeah, all Chinese dialects are written the same, so referring to the written language as Chinese is perfectly fine. It's impossible to determine dialect from looking at a block of text, because text doesn't have dialect. It's a very cool language.
I know mine is likely an unpopular opinion, but just because you wanna stick it to the oligarchs, imo it’s wrong to sleep w/ China. Just like if the guy I like didn’t like me back, I wouldn’t hop in bed with a temp replacement to make myself feel right. It NEVER works out the way you think it will.
A more apt analogy would be your parents saying you can't be with the guy you like, they suggest guys who are nothing but red flags, and you go and find someone else who's more like the guy you liked in the first place.
The "but China will have your data!" argument is a distraction. They don't care
It's not like that, because people were already organically using tiktok.
Way way way more assanine of Congress to ban an app by name. Enjoy playing whack-an-app! This is so much better than just having Internet data privacy guidelines like EU does, fyi inb4 Meta & X are banned in Europe.
Ya cus i couldn’t care less. Besides everyones data is already out there is you have any amount of online presence. I live of f you energy anyway its just a middle finger to the tiktok ban.
I don't read 'em either. But I damn sure not gonna start pledging my allegiance to the Chinese constitution and adhere myself to be a representative of the Chinese public image for short form videos. 😂
My point is all these people who act like they care about genocide and injustice actually dont…. They are out here defending the CCP because of an APP! Saying “America bad so this is okay.” It’s weird an
If you want to be principled then be consistent or nobody will take you seriously
How is it inconsistent? Why do you think anyone needs to be told about Chinese human rights abuses?
American foreign policy narrative for the past 30 years has been serving us all a buffet of "China dangerous."
But much like with "All Lives Matter" people don't need to be told to ignore real issues.
Whether it’s worse or not doesn’t matter. It’s people acting like they are principled about genocide and injustices and then defending the CCP because of an APP they are addicted to.
racism is a problem everywhere. until we talk to people from other countries and learn what we have in common, we're never going to leave our bubble. the united states certainly has locked up entire ethnic groups, look no further than WWII. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internment_of_Japanese_Americans
If I’ve learned anything the last decade it’s that my data has been leaked everywhere and was never private to being with. I don’t care what the terms say.
Right!? I have gotten at least 3 letters in the last 10 years (always MONTHS after the "event", too) about how there was a data breach and my data was stolen and I can pay money to a company to protect my data from here on out. Oh and don't worry, your SSN wasn't stolen!! 😑 Sure it wasn't.
We’re talking about today’s terms of service for a phone app. Unless the ancient dynasties were purchasing their internet services via Starlink, your comment is a non-sequitur.
I mean tbf all the TOS we do accept from companies here may as well be like this, I'm sure it would effectively have the same amount of people reading or understanding them 😂
I translated it.
It says
"I agree that my participation on this platform will make the CEO rich beyond his wildest dreams and that he will use it to make the world a more unfair place."
Charlwin Mao, the CEO of Little Red Book is a billionaire. He is a vulture capitalist from Bain Capital.
Bsky, please let all the tiktok tankies go! We should be encouraging them to move to the little red book. That is where they belong, and what they deserve. Don't be a gatekeeper!
Probably many have like they agree to terms of service from their health care portal ( mine requires arbitration and you may have to pay up to 25k) No I refused to sign and cannot get my health info. When Geisinger was absorbed by Kaiser Permamente
What should I be less angry about? The fascist regime taking over my country? Or the incel losers who voted for a fucking criminal acting like thier argument against a massive social protest is anything other than a cheap echo of someone else's faulty argument while the real issues are ignored?
Most younger Chinese speak English fluently. Almost 16% of all China can speak basic English. Most of them know more about American history than we know anything about them.
We know frighteningly little about China. And people like you aren’t helping
Well the "consent to harvest your organs, yea unto the fourth generation" doesn't actually specify that I and mine have to be dead for the harvesting to begin, but other than that I've read worse when signing up for social security down here in Australia.
I will air drop my legal name, SSN, and DNA to the CCP headquarters before I care what I agreed to or trust the US government again. So, yeah, sign me up.
Actually yes. Meta has access to your camera and microphone to record things around you for targeted ads. They sell your data to ad companies. REDNote does not do this. All it says is they can take your data for legal reasons and you have to follow CCP laws when posting.
seeing this post has made it the tos i’ve paid the most attention to in at least a decade, if the ccp gets my data i hope it gives them as much joy as it did me
Well look.
The I understand it factually is menacing. It's basically completely owned by CCP.
But nobody gave a shit until now about foreign influence. When foreign countries are making money off poisoning the minds of Americans it a problem. Only Americans should poison each other.
Got it.
When we let apps track us, they, or advertisers, or organized content creators (state level or organizations with deep pockets) have enough data to manipulate our opinion, in a targeted way.
Personally I avoid anything from Meta, TikTok, etc.
It's amazing, the number of tiktok users who have joined Rednote, that have interacted with people from China, and learned how much nicer their lives are, compared to here.
Did kids in cages escape your mind? Or people held without charge for 20 years in Guantanamo or POCs stuck in prison for 50 years for theft or the unprecedented murder of POCs by USA police…..
I promise you didn’t read the Bluesky TOS or any other platform you’re on either. Lol, I love people who make posts like this. Always so hypocritical and so blind to it. Now post bluesky’s TOS 😂
Compared to any other terms hidden away and pages long I’ve agreed to in America, this looks to be much more concise at the very least. I’m sure it’s nothing like Disney, where if u signed up for a free streaming trial u waived away all rights to sue, even for an unrightful death at their theme park
Point 3 is that you absolutely can’t claim to have “wok hei” in your shitty fried rice that you cooked on medium high in your 15-year old T-Fal non-stick. Oddly specific, but who am I to question Chinese contract law?
Oh boy will people be disappointed once they learn Xiao Hong Shu is mostly food, clothes and very (VERY) filtered beautiful people with scarily small chins.
Buddy, you don't have to describe Instagram to me, I know what Instagram is like already. You sound surprised that in 2 isolated countries, Instagram could look identical despite having an entirely different name.
People don’t even read T&Cs in English. This is not a new problem nor is it limited to non-US apps US users decide to jump on. They do it for Meta, Google, Apple, etc. Just like how the TikTok legisislation should have been a broad data privacy bill, the problem is no1 ever reads T&Cs & they should

Modern Mandarin is mainly using simplified Chinese script.
Traditional Chinese scripts are still used in Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc.
And there are words in Cantonese that don't really exist in Mandarin, e.g. 冇 (mou)
Chinese is still the primary script in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. (but probably not for long)
"If I can't use TikTok I'll just find this other Chinese app!"
Let freedom ring!
Maybe don't YOLO this?
The "but China will have your data!" argument is a distraction. They don't care

People will never cease to amaze me
Stop the false equivalences. We have our own problems but come on….

They are equivalent, albeit contrasting, and that is the point. America is no better, and all the more maddening for the hypocrisy.
The best thing that could happen for both countries is people talking and learning together.
If you want to be principled then be consistent or nobody will take you seriously

That’s my entire argument

I’m so confused

2:即使是英文,也没人会读
1: In the year 2024 it is easy to use a translator
2: Even in English nobody would read it
Btw wtf is TEMU? 🤣
As a libertarian only god can tell me how to use flowers!
It says
"I agree that my participation on this platform will make the CEO rich beyond his wildest dreams and that he will use it to make the world a more unfair place."
Oh sorry, that was the Meta terms.
Bsky, please let all the tiktok tankies go! We should be encouraging them to move to the little red book. That is where they belong, and what they deserve. Don't be a gatekeeper!
Like Charles Darwin but also like Chairman Mao?
Just me?

Don't pretend you're reading the ones written in English, champ.
Updated on: October 22, 2024
Effective from: October 29, 2024
TOS are basically "you let us do whatever we want and you don't sue us if the app blows up your device".
T.b.h. RedNote's TOS is probably better than Metas
Would be interesting to hear what someone in the Legal profession has to say though. And what they can say about other social media apps TOS'.
This was pretty heart warming to see yesterday https://lemmy.ml/comment/16090298
What a time saver.
Like a dark wizards spellbook.

No I don't read Chinese, I just appreciate Google Lens/Translate.
Personally I avoid anything from Meta, TikTok, etc.
I decided not to sign up. Too odd.
Bless you tho
