Not to get all hyperbolic, but between Trump’s “l’etat c’est moi” and Bessent’s “let them eat cake,” it does feel kind of pre-French Revolution-y around here.

I thought the same thing when the phrase “Defend Deny Depose” started floating around and then people started making “Eat the Rich” comments. They are dealing with a population that is very used to its freedoms, is well armed, and not afraid to fight back.
I agree but feel compelled to nitpick. Jean Jacques Rousseau informs us (Les confessions, 1766) that an urban legend about an unnamed princess saying "Let them eat cake" was circulating in France in the early 1740s, 14 years before Marie Antoinette was born and a half century pre-Bastille.
It looks like there will be a Revolution here. They take many years to develop. I think Frances took 18 years of this kind of stuff before they revolted.
We really went from a mostly good economy which just needed to cool off slightly plus probably some better benefit reforms and labor protections, to this, in not even 90 days
The One-Percent are heading for some rough times; they’re oblivious to the groundswell of anger, disdain and hatred for what they and their King Donnie are doing to our country.
As Franklin put it, “The first man put at the helm will be a good one. No body knows what sort may come afterward. The Executive will be always increasing here, as elsewhere, till it ends in a Monarchy.”
THAT is rich, coming from you! OMG, are you clueless as to what you've been writing, saying, doing for years? I remember when you were all gung-ho GOP. Oh @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social , your hypocrisy knows no bounds. DO MORE than just talk! You owe it to yourself to do better! Oy vey. 🙄
For a start they haven't mastered English and your throwing french at them...and the other thing that really pisses me off with stupid people trying to be smart is Marie Antoinette never fucking said that fuck me you have a fucking computer in your hand use it.
Suddenly I had a mental image of a group of old Midwestern Farm Grandmas quilting together around a quilting frame while cackling "Sparky! Sparky! Zzzzzap!" as Trumpists are sat down one by one in an electric chair.
So what sends the resistance over the edge? When do we focus on the solution instead of whining about everything? Bernie is the one to keep an eye on. I believe he’s the answer.
European here 🤚I agree and it would be a damn shame if there are no massive protests on Saturday April 19. As the start date of the American Revolution it would be fitting for the moment. Symbolism can be a powerful force.
No, April 19 is the day the United States became an independent nation. July 4th is when slave owners decided to agree with the goals of the true patriots. Unless you have an undue respect for slave owners, there is only one correct day to celebrate the country.
They convinced MAGA Jan 6 was Antifa. Then convinced MAGA they were persecuted patriots who deserved a pardon. They’re successfully convincing MAGA that a tanking stock market was needed but was Biden’s fault regardless. Convincing MAGA to give up Social Security will be a layup.
It really depends on what they do next. If they chip away slowly.... But if they keep bulldozing through everything and start interrupting services, some of these people at the top have a dark vision for us...
Comparing elected leaders to monarchs is misleading, and quoting out-of-context phrases distorts history, oversimplifying complex issues and ignoring significant differences between modern democracy and 18th century France.
