WAIT! … @mrsbettybowers.bsky.social … wait wait wait! … you mean Mrs Betty Bowers *isn’t* “America’s Best Christian ^TM” ??? 😲😲😲 … then shouldn’t the ^TM be written as /s ????
well if this was the first post from having never seen a post of "hers" before on twitter / X. From a UK point of view appeared on twitter, he was Sir Michael Take MP CBE, initially some very famous people reacted to his posts as literal. Until people pointed out it was a pun on "taking the mickey"
It's tough. I console myself by picturing Swift stomping around the house, muttering, "I can't believe they thought I really wanted them to eat babies."
If there is *any* doubt that your sarcasm will be misconstrued (unless you actually like people losing their shit... because it *can* be funny), then I really think we all need to seriously consider using "/s" at the end of our posts. I misconstrue typed sarcasm all the time & I'M sarcastic as hell.
It *does* "dumb" it down a bit, but I only think about using it when the topic isn't something that lends itself to a *heavy* sarcastic take. Most stuff is fine without it (to me), but SOMETIMES I just don't want to deal with misunderstandings because some people are rude ass dullards. 🤷♀️
I am all for sarcasm but at the same time, I often have a hard time detecting it when there’s no tone of voice attached to it - like here.
It’s not that people are dumb or want to be angry, some get the literal sense because of Autism spectrum
I call it "reading intuition" & more people lack it than they realize. That's why I encourage people to take a half-step back, check out the person's profile/replies/posts before blasting them because you can typically tell if they are trying to be funny or disgusting by doing that. 🤷♀️
I'm all for some symbol indicating sarcasm. If people misunderstand you, you're only stoking anger in people who actually agree with you. They confront you, you say it was sarcasm, they feel dumb.
Yes! You're arguing with your allies & encouraging the other side in their bs way of thinking. I'm going to be more diligent because I enjoy my peace & I don't want to actively ruin an ally's peace either. 🤷♀️
Betty has had this issue in the past, but then she'll say something so ridiculous messed up that you realize right away. Her Bible videos are legendary. She's been doing this for at least a decade.
I've invented the "declination point" specifically for those of us who liberally use sarcasm (lest we get blocked in confusion). It's on my page somewhere. Basically, an upside down exclamation point.
I don't have any opinion about policing sarcasm, or even if such a thing can be done. As for me, I'm sarcasm impaired. I frequently don't recognize it, and the few times I employ it always sounds preadolescent.
I just defended your sarcasm and facetiousness to someone who hasn’t followed you as long as I have.
“Ms. Bowers is not like that. She’s just very sarcastic” 😆😂😁
Give people time to adjust. Back on the #Xpletive everyone has migrated from, this post would be...well, not sarcasm, but also not something presented in good faith.
It's a problem with plain text. So often sarcasm is shown in tone, inflection or facial expression, all absent in text forums. It's been a problem since IRC, predating AOL Instant Messenger.
Ngl, a lot of us in text format have been using "/s" at the end to indicate sarcasm. For a lot of us touched by the 'tism, detecting it in text can be very hard because of the lack of tone and body language cues.
Yes. Especially as there are probably a crap ton of us Autistic peeps on here both diagnosed and undiagnosed. We don't tend to pick up on sarcasm easily. Definitely add the /s if you want people to know. I have never seen you before and had honestly thought a right winger had made its way here.
You're unfamiliar with "America's Best Christian?" You're going to have fun getting to know her. (Just in case you didn't know, her title of "America's Best Christian" IS sarcasm.)
I should add that Bowers' creator, the uberwonderful singer and comedian Deven Green is a [wait for it....]CANADIAN! Thus giving MAGA another reason to want to close the borders!
I think the main issue is that some sarcastic remarks are 100% not sarcasm to some, and when written they're hard to differentiate especially if you don't know the person. That's my opinion, I also have the tism so there's that

Especially anything positive.
I'm just not here for this.
Especially with your voice! 😉

And … this may be part of our problem. We are jump to rage way to quickly making us look fragile.
I mostly just try to consider everything stupid as sarcasm, have a chuckle and move on. Sometimes I even succeed at that.
I’d rather people block me because they can’t figure it out or confront me so that I can explain what sarcasm is. 😉

Sometimes my snark gets the better of me.
I wish we could get a font style for it - maybe camelcase? 😁
😈
You are quite convincing. I legit thought you were a congresswoman or something.

It's notta vote
It's at the end. And has a fat butt.

I agree people are bad at detecting sarcasm, but this post didn't make it easy
Anyway fuck Rittenhouse and fuck UHC guy whose name I don't care enough to learn

That sort of false equivalency has been flying far and wide over the last week
quite unsuccessfully.
I do find it puzzling in your case... it's a big part of what you've always done.
I’m delighted to see you here!
