The next Kennedy Center Honorees. Then, the Center and its awards will be renamed for a more recent president, the current one, and the woke rainbow ribbon design of the award will be replaced with bedazzled gold lamé.

No offense to the fans of Hee-Haw. I never saw the show, but it just seemed like the type of harmless, low-brow entertainment that the Kennedy Center Honors were not charged with honoring.
Hee-Haw ran from 1969 until *1992* and at no time did it display one iota of ideological right-wing bent, but instead offered corny — and funny! — jokes and skits and featured excellent country and bluegrass music. This is untoward! It is not toward!
We used to watch it when I was a kid in the 70s. Slapstick, and mind numbingly dumb hillbilly jokes that objectify women, a lot. But they did have Roy Clark and other jamboree style hick music. Lots of Banjo.
Darlin' you stepped in it this time. I'd love to share a martini and some awesome Buck Owens stories that would have you picking up the tab and us being best friends. Do better.
It filled that 7pm hour innocently on Saturday night while the ‘Rents argued their way out the door for “date night” until I could change the channel, anticipate the chimes of Big Ben, heralding in the joys of Monty Python. 😆
The Hee-Haw comments did not disappoint, and poor Mrs. Betty Bowers did not see it coming. But perhaps someone will go down a Roy Clark or Buck Owens rabbit hole today because of this post. 💕
hee-haw aired when i was a kid, and although i don't remember this guy, i do remember the song he sung - and i still know the chorus to this day! thing is, i wasn't a viewer ...
I gave you crap, but just for laughs. It was mostly corny crap, really. Except for some great musicianship. There wasn't much to watch when I was a kid, I didn't even like country music and alot of it was schlock. But the instrumental numbers, undeniable talent. Roy and Buck were unearthly.
Roy Clark (CMA entertainer of the year, CM Hall of Fame)and Buck Owens(CM Hall of Fame) of Hee Haw are pretty big deals. Plus that had all kinds of stars in weekly. It was sort of an SNL of country. It was pretty funny.
Despite the silliness of the show, Roy Clark and Buck Owens were true masters of country music and influenced a significant number of artists.
Country Music is a truly American art form just like jazz.
Their contributions to country music are well deserving of the respect of the Kennedy Center.
Music & comedy. The musical artists who appeared on Hee-Haw were some of the most in-demand studio recording musicians and producers of the time - many genres & Grammy award winners. My favorite: guitarist Chet Atkins who inspired George Harrison and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Thank you!!! You know, Hee-Haw regular Roy Clark could've sat in there with Knopfler and Atkins and performed just as impressively. If you haven't sampled the 2 albums Asleep at the Wheel produced of Bob Wills music, you're in for a surprise treat with the guitar artistry that exists in them.
To be honest, I think that rather than Hee-Haw, Drumpf would honor Duck Dynasty (especially since the cast members were a bunch of country club assholes masquerading as "common folk").
I can see how you got there, but there were some legit lefties in the Hee-Haw universe. At the very least the conservatives were more aligned with Eisenhower than Hitler 2.0.
Hee Haw was a great, funny show and had some of the best musicians. But we get what you mean. If you can find it, watch a couple, the humor was family friendly and corny. "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair, agony and woe".
Gloom, despair and agony on me
Deep dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom despair and agony on me
😁
Ok. I popped in to ask why he-haw. It has been a zillion years, but I don't recall them being political at all. Corny variety skit comedy and music show.
Minnie Pearl also advocated for the inclusion of DeFord Bailey into the Grand Old Opry Hall of Fame, the first black musician to be inducted. Fun fact: she was friends with Paul Reubens.
Wallace was also endorsed by the NAACP. His opponent was *also* a segregationalist, and one who was endorsed by the KKK, while Wallace rejected the KKK. No fan of Wallace, but you're talking about 1956. (He later renounced his old views.)
Again, endorsed by the NAACP and publicly rejected the KKK...in *1950s Alabama.* I think you are missing a lot of details as relates to the trajectory of his political career and Minnie Pearl's minor role before he intentionally changed his rhetoric.
Yeah, everyone knows who he is, and no one is a fan. But she campaigned for him in 1956 for the 1958 election. That was *before* he switched the tone of his campaign, which he did because he lost in 1958 *because* his campaign wasn't run on an overtly racist platform...
You're correct in that it was pretty harmless & low brow 😂
But when you have a few, google "roy clark" and watch one of the videos of his guitar work. The guy was a master. His rendering of Malagueña is a classic. His fingers are just flying.
Also not big on country! But yes, he truly was a talent. I remember my parents used to love watching that show. Someone here described it as "Country Laugh-In" and I think that sums it up pretty well 😂
If you are wondering why this is his latest thing… The current chairman is a Jewish philanthropist who was just given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Biden. Also Trump is just insane. Presidents typically appoint board members to 6 year terms. There are 36. They vote for chairman.
Maybe for the Dukes of Hazzard since John Schneider is a huge fan of Dumple ThinSkin? Now excuse me, I need to go watch some pickin’ & grinnin’ clips. 😂
One of the central points of fascism is disdain for intellectuals and the arts, so it follows he'd go after the Kennedy Center. Pretty sure he'll go after PBS/NPR next (NPR isn't just news, it's also stuff like 'This American Life' and 'Fresh Air.')
Tickets will be available in the Silver, Gold and Trump Platinum editions for up to $1,000,000 if you get the limited edition, autographed ticket that includes a free pair of trump sneakers and a gold plated bedazzled trump watch.
Soooo, Ryan lost his job.
AT WHAT POINT DO YOU FUCKERS GAIN THE COURAGE TO GO STORM DC?

HOW MANY OF YOUR OWN HAVE TO DIE?
YOU ALL TALKED SUCH BIG BULLSHIT ABOUT BEING #1, "WE KICK ASS IF ANYONE ATTACKS US."
Rosanne Barr. Watch, it’ll happen. This is like someone took over Rock and Roll hall of fame and inducted Whitesnake. Or NFL hall of fame and inducted Tim Tebow.
There were some supremely talented people in the cast of Hee Haw. If they were alive, I’d be glad to attend a concert by them, so this makes a different point than you think
I feel like Hee Haw did this to them though. Some of the country greats were on there, but the skits often painted them in stereotypical ways, which only cemented what some ppl already thought.
True. Like so much, things were different “back then.” Musical variety shows would not be successful today and beyond that, as you say, the “stereotype” folksy humor would not go over now (same like humor of All in the Family…)
Not to go all off topic, but it seems like while the Archie Bunker character was actually making fun of our future MAGAts, they (as usual) took it the wrong way and thought it was condoning their racist asshole behavior
Typical of that era in general, they were included because there is still a stereotype of anything Southern or country as being backwards and unintelligent. They could have used Laugh In or Sonny and Cher or the Osmonds, same over-the-top variety format, but those shows weren't country.
The cast were brilliant at what they did. The comedy of it and how they made fun of the ol country bumpkin is who I in fact equate to Trumps cult. But in real life, the parody of such characters is more dangerous than entertaining.
I get that. Back then I think it was beloved by even the people being stereotyped, in the way that Italian Americans love My Cousin Vinnie, for example, even though Italian-American stereotypes are problematic in the big picture. Now I think HeeHaw could be seen as mocking by a lot of people.
I take issue with the cast of HeeHaw being with these yoyos. Yes, it was a countryfied Laugh-in, but Buck Owens and Roy Clark and their musical guests were excellent country music.
Trash. These attempts to persuade the masses to accept white trash, does nothing but reveal a pathetic weakness that fails to represent real American strength. The fucking buffoon had five deferments to Vietnam. Huge weakling. The ones who follow are so pathetically weak. It’s all built on sand.
Paul Reubens' last appearance as his character Pee-wee Herman was at a Minnie Pearl tribute show. Minnie was so cool, she hung out with Elvis, Dean Martin, and all kinds of interesting folks. She was good people.
I have several friends in DC who are and have been Golden Circle member with season tickets for several years now and they are absolutely flipping out over that ignorant announcement he made!
There is probably going to be a fire sale starting tomorrow to unload them now!
Hee-Haw was a great TV show filled with outstanding music, beautiful women, and humor that showed, at our core, ppl are basically the same. Always hated ppl shitting on it cuz its country.
Hey, now.
Don't forget the forgettable and untalented, Kevin Sorbo.
The lacking in charisma and incapable, Scott Baio.
A man even his own daughter despises, Jon Voight.
Ewww Lara Trump. It was bad enough that the Trump campaign used Tom Petty's music, angering his heirs enough as it was, but then Lara had to put her spin on one of his songs ...
Sure they’ll find Honorees this year but after they honour Scott Baio and the original cast of the Little Rascals (minus Buckwheat of course) they’re gonna run out of people.
I can't entirely hate on Our Gang. Hal Roach was a bit ahead of his time by having Black and White kids together on screen. Unfortunately the Black kids, starting with Ernie "Sunshine Sammy" Morrison and Allen "Farina" Hoskins in the silent era, were still depicted as stereotypes.
The talkies got more play when many of the films were sold to TV in the 1950s. Silent films weren't exactly marketable, and yeah, to look at them 100 (!) or so years later, the stereotypes are appalling, even if the kids--regardless of race--were appealing (especially the talkie-era Black kids
that more viewers, thanks to TV, saw decades on after these films were made. Those kids were Matthew "Stymie" Beard and Billie "Buckwheat" Thomas). And we all know the bad stories about how some of those kids ended up in adulthood.
Many of the films are still pretty interesting to watch, though.
That's not all! Trump also has YUGE plans to use that space for the new off-Broadway mega-hit he and Elon are producing called "Springtime for Hitler". Word is they are currently grifting for investors.
Replace Hee Haw with the Village People, and that will be closer to what will happen! And the felon will make the televised “honors” will be PPV!! Crass SOB!!!
Yes, the ribbon design will be different, but also, the artists represented will be shit, and former recipients will toss their awards back at that idiot who masquerades as a president.
Folk should look up an old Graham Norton show from the first term where Emma Thompson details how that idiot Trump once asked her out. Rob Schneider sits next to her and is visibly uneasy at how his hero is dismissed as a buffoon in Europe.
Trump will rename it to Trump Center. He always puts his name on everything. There will be a much larger bust inside.🤮. All dicktators have their name on everything and busts everywhere.
That’s the only language these guys understand. Get straight to the money. Same should be done to Amazon, Facebook etc. Boycott their product at every opportunity
I'm glad that most people want to let the red state perish, they don't deserve freedom and democracy, they voted against it, they don't want it, don't give it to them
Please don’t insult the cast of HeeHaw by putting them in the same category as those others. Roy Clark was one of the most talented guitarists who even lived. Buck Owens and the others also were mega talents. And you overlooked Lee Greenwood for this dubious honor

Any show that featured Johnny, Willie, and Kris DEFINITELY does not need to be lumped in with...those types.
