Basically! Little crystals of color that burst during the firing process. They generally stay put, but you can wipe them away/pick them offβ¦which is what I tried to do before painting the trees but they were resilient!
Wow that's gorgeous. Congrats on the feat! I only have experience doing 4-H glazed ceramics a long time ago, but damn is that impressive. We'll just call the overzealous stars a reflective lake view instead, shall we?
I can honestly only imagine. The tree outline is very different from here (since most of our native conifers are Pinus species). The sky looks similar to how I remember it when I was SUPER young and living in rural Italy -- perhaps the last time I saw a sky from anywhere truly dark. It's glorious.
As former president of the American Conifer Society, I absolutely agree. :) I've planted over 500 here in my garden... which, given the small size of the house plot, is... probably too many. But that's tomorrow Neil's problem.
The stars seem fine. If you ever get to look at the night sky with night vision goggles on a moonless night you will be overwhelmed. Hubble took a long exposure of the darkest part of our sky and.. over 99% of the objects in the image aren't stars, they're galaxies.
