I was initially taken aback by Soul Silver as the pokemon rep but remembered it’s basically 2 games in 1 remastered with better graphics.

Have you tried UFO50? It’s a delight to jump into a random NES-like game, and it has some neat meta-narrative stuff to follow over the 50 games.
