Well, duh. But someone (at least for now) has to ask AI to make it, and someone has to post it. And every AI image is stolen, anyway. And - posting any image without attribution is highly suspect as theft.
AI generated images usually look pretty good as a whole but fall apart pretty quickly if you try to focus on the details. Bluesky's aggressive compression doesn't really help with this as the finer details get lost but I marked some things that stand out to me.
The scale in this image in particular is all over the place.
- in blue: the trees in front and in the back have the same size, so either the trees in the front are small, but small trees aren't that bushy, or the trees in the back are huge, but huge trees also look different
-in red: the valley flows into the base of the circled mountain that appears to be a continuation of the range on the left but there is a even bigger mountain range behind it, so either that one mountain is small or the other mountain is HUGE and both small and huge mountains just look... different
-in yellow: the giant crease right through the middle of the valley. It just looks weird. In my experience valleys covered in trees are more smooth in the middle unless broken up by a river. There is no river here which also begs the question why this valley is *THIS* green
Overall, yeah just look at the details or the lack of it and if it feels even slightly off, odds are that the image is AI generated.
Doubly so if the image was posted by one of these bluesky accounts that have names like "Universe", "best Nature" or "Moon lover" that just flood your timeline.
whenever im traveling i always end up enjoying the scenery wherever i go, always end up going to gorgeous places, but then again beauty is always around us, just gotta look
It could be trained off images of that park. Though maybe it's just the upload resolution of Bsky that makes it hard for me to be able to tell AI noise from artifacting.
Even if this is real though there's tons of accounts posting "nature images" that are more obviously generated.
And of course a big way to stay vigilant is by taking a critical look at the scene itself. This one for instance shows a river with a lot of misty turbulence but a river that shallow and flat shouldn't really have those unless it was some sort of long exposure.
Here is a good example. The image is very compressed since its coming off bsky but you can still see how there's these amorphous floaters that look like there meant to be leaves, but have no trunk. Even the trees next to them have visible trunks at this scale.
Its this specific kind of smudge that you see in smaller areas that are meant to have high-detail noise, but instead they get this amorphous blob look. It's very noticeable in nature images because far off trees or rock faces will get a bit futzy with the details. Ill find some examples quick.
I would say this pic could be real and taken from Paul Allen's property (Microsoft co-founder )boardering Zion national park. Or above it near elephant butte/ mail drop.
It looks like it could be correct with eagle crags in the middle of the pic.
These are gorgeous. I don't know ow how I'll use them, but I save them in a folder called "Backgrounds" as reference for the graphic novels I'll never finish.

Seems to be AI impersonating a view in Zion National Park from Angel's Landing.
