I tried to cancel ours, but website said you donβt get a refund if youβve already paid for the subscription. Which, come to think of it, doesnβt sound right. π§
We didn't get a refund either, but many have been refunded immediately. According to Google search, you are to be prorated and refunded. At any rate, I'd just cancel it. It's one of the most powerful ways to resist the regime.
I did, but response was it will be available till next Feb. I would have canceled it sooner but my husband didnβt want to. Still didnβt, but I finally took it into my own hands. I avoid using it and watching anything on the prime channel. My hubs is coming around. He then cancelled our WaPo!π
Also, use Amazon to research brands, products & prices, find the same deal locally, or elsewhere. Since the election, I've used Amazon but not bought there
Indeed. The reviews and comments are very helpful in research. Too bad Bezos had to be a damn evil villain and wreck retail like he's wrecking WaPo and the USA.
The problem I see these days is that Amazon has basically become Wish or Temu- most of the "companies" don't exist as brands outside of Amazon and they're based in China. So skip these steps and just shop local to begin with!
You can also proably get the same product on CostCo, which has so far distinguished itself for normal capitalist business priorities rather than toadying to a would-be dictator.
That works pretty well, except that Amazon is also a shipping company and sometimes boxes show up on my porch anyway wearing a silly grin.
If there's a way to specify, make sure it's USPS or Canada Post, especially across our border. Not UPS, give them a chance and they will gouge you too.
I just avoided "the Bezos Jungle" by going straight to the Magna-Tiles website to place an order for the creative building toy that my granddaughter wants for her birthday.Free shipping and 10% off.48 days without buying anything from Bezos. We can live without an amazon. He can't oligarch w/o us.
Have actively avoided Amazon for at least 8 years. Never missed it.
Buy local whenever you can (put your$ directly into your local economy)
if you must, use Amazon's site and servers for free as a search engine, get the product code for what you want and buy direct from maker.
Good chance the company's site is built with Shopify, a company friendly to Nazis. To avoid putting $ in the hands of friends of Nazis, pick up the phone and use the 1-800.
Not a fan of Shopify, and avoid it at all costs because they sell so much of your personal data. Consumer protection doesnβt seem to exist anymore, and this administration/dictators drives home in that point even more.
I saw this on FB a few weeks ago and havenβt ordered off Amazon since. I did exactly this, found the product on Amazon and then went to the seller direct. Iβm going to cancel my Amazon Prime now and have already cancelled Amazon music.
Off now since beginning of February. Started to get off Jan 20. Had to wait to make sure stuff didn't need to be returned.Account fully deleted, deleted data, No Amazon Prime or Audible. Think saving money by actually shopping purely Canadian. So one month totally off.
I sought out a product that was recommended to me only to find that they delivered via Amazon, so I emailed them directly to tell them why they lost my business. I got an email back saying they were already planning to break with Amazon the next month. π
Quality of goods on Amazon is awful. Stopped using it before all this crap and not going back. Returns is awful as well and can take weeks. I like Ebay. God knows who owns that but a marketplace and price and quality is fair. Also second hand quality product is the future.
I used DuckDuckGo to find an online store, found an EU-made flag, and bought it through their direct transfer option instead of through my Visa or Mastercard.
Just an fyi some companies offer amazon only products but you wonβt know until you buy it directly from them and it still ships from an amazon warehouse.
Thank you! Nobody should be giving through rich people money, they don't need it, and they definitely don't appreciate our society nor our patronage. If the rich appreciated their customers they'd pay their fair share of taxes and help support our civilization, they do not. Instead they hide assets.
I cancelled Prime before Election Day. Now thinking I (we) should be rigorous in all of our consumer choices. Put off discretionary purchases, buy from small and local businesses. Buy products from democratic countries. Yes this will cause pain, but itβs coming anyway.
Yes!
However, there are plenty of shady companies that sell things through Amazon, so you might want to run their names through Trustpilot and/or ResellerRatings. They can warn you of problematic online retailers.
For electronics, camera and computer stuff, I used B&H Photo. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/
I personally never use Amazon, why give a greedy man more money, and I seem to find better items shopping the companies themselves.good for me and my conscious.
That's what I've been doing. Most companies offer a discount, especially for first time buyers. I like that this cuts Amazon out and gives more money to the seller.
They're not country wide but Fresh Thyme is excellent too. Very much in the Sprout's style of offerings. Excellent weekly sales on produce & meat dept.
I don't have that one here. Also, our Harris Teeter offers quite a bit of Organic. Believe it or not I discovered Sprouts in The Villages in Florida. I was down there alot this past year as my Mom was in Memory Care. It was next to her facility and I got lunch from there almost every day.
My sympathies on your mother's illness. It's a hard thing to deal with even an excellent care team. β€οΈ But I'm glad you caught the Sprouts bug. π
We do not need Amazon.
We do not need Tesla.
We do not need X.
We do not need Meta!
We need our democracy. We need working class health, wealth, safety, and political influence. We need our future for which generations have sacrificed.
It works. I have been boycotting Amazon since November, doing exactly this. Amazon for me now is just an encyclopedia to research what is available to purchase elsewhere.
It is very freeing !!
I've been doing this for DECADES. Haven't bought a single thing through them. It's true--anything you can get on Amazon you can usually order directly from the seller (or another vendor at a similar price). Trust me it's super easy to live without Amazon.
Then you see a product that may or may not be garbage but its products are carried in a lot of stores and you try to look up the company but its a drop-shipper and the parent company is under sanctions. Sigh.
I cancelled all my subscribe and save. I found it was cheaper to order directly from companies. Many of them offer subscription services and are cheaper and have better sales. I still receive everything within a week, so no difference with Prime of late. Also canceled video service.
Iβm just enjoying going on the Amazon app
1- putting differing versions of the same thing, ie 5 different recliners in my cart,
2-letting them sit there for a few days as they bombard me with notifications that my cart is calling,
3- emptying my cart into theβsaved for laterβ black hole
4- repeat
Create a 'fake email' just for retail/rewards info. Some company sales can be deeply discounted, and many retailers offer rewards for consistent orders!
This, this cutβs into the Broligarchs wallets. Every penny diverted away from them is a small win start stacking them up. It will slowly shift the power dynamics out of their control.
Still waiting for reports but their stock has been going down. So far it likely has more to do with tariffs but it has them in a bad position for a report showing lower sales than projectedπ€
Great tip. The part that stinks is when you go to the company website and learn that they only sell on Amazon. Itβs like, ugh cβmon Iβm trying to help you here.
Normally, I would agree with you but I just googled iPhone 16 and it is Β£699 on Amazon and Β£799 on Apple. On Currys it is Β£749! I've just deleted my Amazon account and will not miss it.
I've found that by going to the company site many have a veterans discount. Might have to send them an email to get the code but the satisfaction of not using a traitors site is worth the little extra time and effort.
Switched to Ecosia for search a month ago, haven't looked back. Getting rid of my Google account for mail etc is going to be a lot harder though as I've had the account for decades and almost every login I have is linked to it.
Yes the saved logins are a bit annoying to change, but with the change that we see in the world with people who does not give a shit about us, then I will do as much as possible for them not to make money of me.
Yeah, I'm not saying I'm not going to do it, just that it will take a bit more time and planning to minimise inconvenience and potential cybersecurity risk of suddenly changing a bunch of logins and 2-factor auth links all at the same time.
I canceled my Amazon accountβincluding Prime Video & Audibleβafter Bezos refused to let WaPo run endorsement of Kamala Harris. I have to look a little harder online for things, but found https://Libro.fm for audio books, which allows me to purchase them from local independent bookstores of my choice.π₯³ππΎ
I found out https://Libro.fm for my Audible fix.
Doesn't directly has smartwatch app for my WearOS but can play mp3 or m4a files that you can download from Libro.Fm website.
my exercise has been currently using https://libro.fm backtrack :-)
I can't imagine learning German at my age :-)
I speak English, Portuguese and Spanish and I can likely read Italian most of the time, but German shares very little of my native language.
Ironically, one of my long lasting vices was reading Perry Rhodan, that is the longest running SCifi pulp...
Just a service announcement for searchers of German (audio-)literature. They also have an Audible-like subscription service & the money goes to my Austrian hometown instead of Bezos ;)
Thank you Karly. Also don't click on ads on Facebook and X. That's their product, clicks. If their advertisers don't get clicks, they don't buy ads. What does Zuckerberg and the Washington Post check every morning? Clicks on ads.
Don't click on anything on Facebook. I keep it active, purely to maintain contact with friends around the world. I don't click anything other than known pages. Most of it is click bait that is monetized by nefarious groups. Facebook is a cesspool!
If I had any other way to stay in contact with my friends and family, I'd ditch FB in an instant. From now on though I'm not clicking jack. Just going to block every ad I see like I used to do in the waning days of Twitter. Starve the beast.
True. These are all options, but difficult to visually share in peoples lives, without CCing everyone in, when you share baby pictures, etc.
The good news? Being a member of Facebook, doesn't really benefit meta, financially. Engagement is what draws revenue. Avoid that and it's as good as leaving.
I'm actually surprised that somebody hasn't started a genuine social media rival, that purely focuses on photo sharing, familial connections, etc. With minimal, mainstream advertising. A huge number of people would migrate.
I find FB is like putting up a poster on a phone pole I know my family is going to walk past every day, and that's frankly as much contact as I want to have with a lot of them.
Been doing just that and it works great. I donβt really need anything right away. Bezos conditioned us to expect it and did so in the backs of his workers.
Been doing that for almost a year now. found that the prices on Amazon are not that good. Paying for the membership was more expensive than my shipping costs so far.
I say DDG because people know it and people are against Bezoz right now.
You could use Yahoo! or even AOL as examples. Point is, other search engines exist that can be used that won't funnel your money into Besos or a company that helps him profit
Try Linux Operating Systems also, can be had for FREE, you can try it before installing, and they have many different "flavors". I use Mint because it's basically like windows, some apple users prefer Ubuntu, AND they have Tails OS, runs on a USB, using only RAM memory, unplug the USB you are "gone"
That's what I've been doing since January, ordered something from Vision Express on Friday afternoon it was delivered on Saturday afternoon. I did have to pay a delivery charge but it was worth doing.
Itβs not much, but I took the first step of deleting the Amazon app from my phone two weeks ago and havenβt bought anything from them since. I just have to get off the Amazon Music train, and stop watching stuff on Prime Video (damn you, Reacher, and your ball-busting muscles).
Yes, been buying puppy pads on amazon for years, 43. so looked for them offsite and found the same box here at Cosco for 31. ffs so much less. Anyway I know it's American but one of the good guys, and the pads are from China, will be getting them there from now on. I should have checked ages ago.
Me too!! I used to order at least $100 a month in vitamins, supplements, and herbal teas. Now i found better products many made in Canada and local. It may sound silly, but I feel free of the Amazon chain, lol!
Exactly, I think we have been spoiled with having stuff come right to our door, and other places do offer delivery as well if we need it. I have saved a ton of money since January when I deleted Amazon, I wasted too much money on shit I didn't really need, it was too easy, and I became lazy.
I havenβt cancelled prime just yet but all of a sudden Trumpβs Apprentice is now airing. Iβd bet money Trump told Bezoβs to air The Apprentice on Prime.
Was thinking about this yesterday! Exactly, fuck the billionaires they can pay off the deficit and go fuck each other off. They have their billions bc of our fucked up capitalist state.
Absolutely do this all the time . Havenβt made an Amazon purchase in 2025. Direct company orders only. Not spending other than essentials, gas, food.
I havenβt used Amazon in years. Because every time I did- scam city. Also told my spouse to close PayPal account for the same reason. Not because itβs about Bezos or Musk. Because they are nothing must trouble.
I didn't realize how much I was impulse buying too. Deleting my Amazon account has been great for my mental health as well as my bank account. 10/10 highly recommend.
Brave is literally Chrome but with crypto built into it so not my jam, no. I feel like Opera is the good choice right now, but I'm not versed on all options, I just know Brave is one to avoid.
I've been doing this. Got my high fiber snack bars for about 22% less. Got my no-sodium added marinade for $7 instead of $10. Got a couple of vitamin supplements for the same price but earned points for future discounts on the company website. It works out 4 out of 5 times.
I've been doing this and I'm shocked at how many direct buy companies have free shipping and the prices as Amazon. Also doing more small business shopping.
Iβm now 2.5 months into deleting Amazon; I went to one of the local Goodwills to find a shirt for a party costume ($4.99 no shipping); and went to locally owned print company to order shirts ($16 each no shipping) for a bowling fundraiser - and became friends with the resistance owners when I did.
Believe it or not - I've only ever bought ONE item off Amazon|! A local author wrote a book & it came up as a special purchase price of 99 p (1$). They would still pay the author the full commission, which was more than I paid for it! Local author donated all the commission to charity.
While this works in many cases. I see lots of these small businesses mark the item the same price on their site and you have to pay for shipping. But then the shipping for a small item is $8 and sent through USPS that charges abt $4.25. These businesses are doing themselves no favors
What you say is correct but maybe shipping costs are a small price to pay to send a message to Bezos. I cancelled Prime and all my subscribe and save items. Found alternate suppliers.
True again. But remember to get β freeβ shipping on Amazon, you have to either have Prime - $15.00 per month or you have to buy an amount over a threshold and Iβm pretty sure the shipping is accounted for in that cost.
I have no problem paying for shipping vs getting it for free to help a business avoid Amazon. I'm questioning the $4 -ish that is way more than fulfillment and packing materials costs in addition to the cost for the shipping.
My adult daughter and I are doing this. One vendor we ordered from direct, when we read the fine print after it said βdelivered by Amazonβ. We were like WTAF. Cross them off.
eBay vendors are sometimes drop-shippers from Amazon, meaning, if I understand it, you order a thing on eBay for $50, the vendor orders it on Amazon for $40, has Amazon send it to you, and pockets the difference. Anybody know how to prevent that?

Check out https://BlueStreetbrand.com

Just got a Kobo to ditch Kindle forever.

This would be a really good time to get rid of Google. Google does.
Similarly researched on Amazon and then drove to a retail store to make the purchase for a different item.
A little extra effort keeps my pennies out of Bezo's pocket.
Amazon became big because of people's support. That's how these arrogant billionaires came to be.
I used DuckDuckGo to find an online store, found an EU-made flag, and bought it through their direct transfer option instead of through my Visa or Mastercard.
If we unite, this boycott will work!

We've been doing it for over 15 years.
Trust me. You can do it too.
Don't buy Bezos another cup of coffee.
We find it on amazon, then go and buy it directly from the manufacturer.
My wife also usually drops the product into an Amazon shopping cart before she leaves Amazon entirely to buy it directly from the manufacturer.
Tangible proof of the lost sale.

Cold turkey.

I suggest using an alternative search engines. Duck Duck Go is the most well known one.
