The voice actors who did the dubs for Fujuisan and Ohta are genius, Chairman Kaga should never be dubbed, and for god’s sake bring back the Hans Zimmer Backdraft music. The replacement music for streaming is terrible.
I love watching them too. This is such a little thing, but I miss the ripped-off "Backdraft" theme music, which they had to overdub for rights reasons at some point after the original Food Network run.
Okay I'm glad I didn't watch that one. I'm not a food snob and I am very open to cultural differences and I'm not a vegan but something about narrating an animal's horrifying death as though it's sportsball really got to me. I won't judge anybody for enjoying the show but I had nightmares
I’m a big Top Chef fan and the current season is the first one I can recall where the lobster they present as an ingredient was already dead. I’ve seen a lot of seafood chopped in half while still alive on that show in the past.
It wasn't the dish! It was watching someone hammer a live octopus to death with a daikon radish as it was narrated live by two bemused sounding commentators
Omg. There was a station in the SF Bay Area that aired the Japanese Iron Chef (in Japanese, with the music from BACKDRAFT) long before the Food Network got a hold of them… is this what is on Peacock, or is the Food network English dub?
Jon Carroll did a column about that and my now-wife and I got well into it. We went to Ron Siegel's restaurant where he recreated his dishes from his victory over Sakai. It was amazing.
Yo really?! I have a Google doc with all of the episodes and I've been marking off which ones I've seen, but I think I've exhausted what's available on youtube and my 30 year old docwebster rips
oh shit that must be new. i was looking a few months ago and could only find really bad youtube rips (which kind of ruled bc they didn't cut out the old food network commercials)
there is one channel on YouTube that has pretty decent rips, but yes, the Japanese version kicks the US remake up and down, no fucking contest (I hate Bobby Flay so much)

(There was music from THE PIANO, too, btw.)
(ahahaha THEY HAVE SILK STALKINGS)
