Seriously, yes. When they can't sell the overpriced things because we militantly eat beans & rice more often, they will reevaluate the pricing/profit margins.
Not in Waco. Dairy farms upstream from the lake empty their wastewater from scrubbing down their dairy barns right into the North Bosque River causing a huge algae problem. You drink the water.
Besides some of the solid tips (and fair-enough quips) I see posted here, if you have stores near you that not only have sales but mark thing down, adjust the menu if you can, to accommodate the deals. A bit of sauteed diced bell pepper, onion, garlic and celery can add flavor to almost anything.
The front page on store circulars are loss leaders to get you into the store. I adjust our meals based on what’s there. Shop at different stores. That has kept our food budget down. I’ve googled local egg prices and went where they were the cheapest. All these little steps add up to savings.
For those who live near stores and can get there, that really helps. One local chain nearby repacks eggs that are from cartons where some are broken and sells the repacked eggs at about 1/2 price. The meat bin regularly has discount stickers (paying attention to be sure it really is a discount).
9 years ago I lived (and worked) in Northern VA. I did most of my grocery shopping at Whole Foods. Now retired I live in a GA mtn town. I mostly shop at Ingles, Walmart, a farmers market. Tip of the day - you don't need to shop at Whole Foods. Buy real food wherever you can find it. Cook at home.
And don't even plan on eating food that's expensive before you go to the grocery store. Beans and rice will always be cheaper than steak, even if you buy the cheaper steak, it's still expensive.
True. Don't go shopping when you are hungry.
Also, don't go when you just finished a big meal.
You will end up getting "maybe" 1 bag.
Coffee. Batteries. Toothpaste. Strawberry preserves.
I remember grocery shopping as a kid. Mom would fill two carts, the total would come to $50 and she'd moan. Eggs were fifty cents a dozen then, a gallon of milk a dollar, bacon sixty-nine cents a pound...
Simply ascend to the QI Refinement layer of cultivation and sustain yourself on the ambient energy around you. Big Food does NOT want you to discover this
I buy on sale and compare prices for about 70% of the grocery items I buy. Ground beef - well, that's now an item that we buy only occasionally. I now make my pasta sauces with mostly vegetables to save on cost, plus it's healthier.
Speaking from the vantage of someone now just having to shop for myself, I reject that (presumably facetious) advice entirely. Eating is not just a necessity, but should also be a pleasurable delight... to which the old axiom of “you get what you pay for” often applies.
But also... check to see what could save you more in the long run. Is x more expensive up front? Can it be made less expensive than y due to how long it will last or can be extended to? Save to get x. The more you can think of overall savings rather than immediate savings the better.
No no I feel like people are missing the point here; if fresh produce is on sale, it’s usually bc it’s in season and you’re getting it at its freshest/ripest. Idk if this applies to other goods, but that’s definitely the case with produce!
Typically if the produce is really expensive per pound, that means it was imported or grown in a greenhouse, which drives up prices. Buy the cheaper fruits and veggies, and you’ll have a much better cooking and dining experience with them !
lol. Yeah, I stopped buying roast beef, butter, seafood, eggs, and on and on. I live on chicken, pork & vegetarian casseroles. sigh. Even tuna, which used to be 49¢ is now $1.25.
Eat like the peasants do-cook dry beans in Instapot, I add my garden tomatoes, add a bit of meat, served over rice. Mexican recipes can be frugal & healthy.
I ABSOLUTELY despise Ralph’s(Kroger) they are sooooo fucking beyond gouging at this point by February we will not be able to afford to eat I’m afraid!! While they RAKE in PROFITS
Also varies between 6-8 dollars in my area, depending on grocery.
Also note, the more expensive grocer dropped their 'house brand' gluten-free pasta (which was priced in the same tier as regular pasta) and only carry the expensive brand name now
Needles to say, i get my gluten-free stuff elsewhere
Learning to cook… bake and preserve real food… that’ll save a bundle… granny here can do it… I have grown all manner of food too… livestock, poultry and a market garden. Plus I’m a crackerjack with a fly rod…
Same block of cheese at membership warehouse an hour drive away: $12
I buy 3, which lasts me a month. Saves me money too, cause what I save in cheese $$$ is more than enough to pay for fuel to and from the warehouse store.
It costs more money short term to buy in bulk...you might not have $18 to shop local and definitely not have $36 plus 2 hours of gas to buy from the warehouse.
Warehouse access is only good for those that are not already behind the 8 ball.
Great tip! I'll add my two faves.
Always do your grocery math when choosing between two of the same item ($/unit).
Also a sale is sometimes not the best deal, again, do your grocery math 😁
My friend, I think it will take people a long time before any of them can truly comprehend how, of all the statements that have ever been made, what you just said is by far and without a doubt one of them
I ran across this small haul of eggs, apples, strawberries, and blueberries earlier with the complaint that it was $32. Perhaps there might have been cheaper choices than $8 organic eggs and $9 managed variety apples.
the free range eggs are also factory farmed. not even in an illegal way they're just allowed to deceive you legally
you're paying more to get scammed which isn't your fault but if you're worried about the price then it is very much your problem
I buy mine from an actual farm so I'm not being deceived, but I suspect many others are. Why so hostile to my defense of folks who want to eat decent food?
nah fuck that complaining is the lifeblood of humanity
if we're gonna live in hellworld then we get to complain regardless of if the complaints are 100% totally accurate rebuttal because the central point (it costs money to live) is still a problem
You know what? Yeah. Go ahead and complain because there is a lot to be displeased about when it comes to people profiting off survival let alone everything else.
right now, where I'm at, egg eaters are buying any eggs they can get & cost between store brand basic eggs and fancy organic ones has narrowed. Funny, fancy eggs stay same price, but cheaper eggs now increased to match.

Thank you kindly.
Besides cost savings, the affordable staples are typically healthier options.
2. Add a cow for milk. You may be able to trade it for magic beans and end up with a golden goose that lays golden eggs.
3. If no magic beans, sell your raw milk to RFK jr. His brain worm needs a pal.
Also, don't go when you just finished a big meal.

Only buy what you eat
Good food=Good health
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to finish my Maruchan ramen and Shasta lemon-lime soda.
#checkyourprivilege 😜
...But right now beets are a bit pricey
Plant it
That is, if I survive…
hold on to getting big purscases till after ignoramus is off the WH.
things will get more expensive once he takes over
they got some good prices 😂
Stay in your lane Exxon!
It’s all there.
And keep impulse buying at a minimum.
Don't buy food. Can't get cheaper than that.
Disclaimer: Unless you can live on fresh air and sunshine, you may be forced to pay for food at some point, unless you can grow your own...
Happy New Year!
Don't buy so-called bargains from the brochures, buy what's marked *on sale* in the store.
Seriously. 👍

You can't just live off top ramen and rice.
You need things in your diet and those are the things that are getting really expensive. Bread, eggs, fruit, etc.
It's time to turn over the apple cart and fuck this economy up!
