Yeah, fishy indeed. Facebook is a cesspool of AI generated accounts with botted engagement. Twitter is owned and operated by an egomaniacal cringe lord.
I know Iβm a βreply guyβ but I would actually get to have a conversation on Twitter in the old days. Here at least, there is some back and forth when replying. I never understood why he did βpay to playβ
The Guardian newspaper said it has more traffic from BlueSky than from X. Despite the no. of users. This is Elonβs algorithms at work. Real media are βlegacyβ in his mind so he mutes them. Same for sane YouTubers like you, David.
I would hardly ever see your posts on X. Had to block Elon and the barrage of right wingers being forced on my feed. Here I see them right when I sign on.
Facebook and Twitter both used to emphasize and make it easy to follow reliable news, and organize political movements. When I left X, I joined Threads, only to be disappointed that it is not by design a news hub. I give
#bsky an A++ for the freedom to create and pin lists like "Reliable News."
Iβve resisted calling that other place by its new name because itβs totally stupid, and out of rebelliousness kept calling it Twitter, but now Iβm of the opinion itβs an insult to Twitter to keep referring to its violated carcass as βTwitterβ.
X (ex) is actually a perfect name for that monstrosity.
I listen to your show every day at work, really love your stuff. Unfortunately X (now that BlueSky is here I don't call it Twitter) Can never be what it was, even if fElon reprogrammed. X is Truth Social.
Twitterβs algorithm has definitely shifted to favor certain content types and accounts, prioritizing controversy and clickbait over genuine engagement. Platforms like this thrive because they prioritize meaningful interactions, not just numbers. Quality > quantity every time! Thoughts?
X is corrupted to its core. Rather than serving as a platform for free speech, it has become a tool for manipulating the world to align with one individual's vision.
I had joined Twitter in 2017 and therefore never realized how fun this type of social media can be. BlueSky is really fun! Just two weeks into this new journey and my anxiety has reduced.
I hope it stays that way, I think it's possible the majority of people moving over here now are more politically conscious and less susceptible to crypto scams and catfishing...
The number comparison is biased because on one side you do not have true human followers while on the other, you do have interactions with human being followers. IMO I prefer Bluesky by far
Highly probable. Of course, it could have also been due to using outside links in posts, in an effort to try to combat all the lies being told. Elon finally owned up to the fact that his algorithm "prioritizes images and videos, posts with links go almost unnoticed."
I donβt know who you are probably because I swore off the other places awhile ago, but I am honestly so happy to not have to dig for the people I follow, you know? Itβs amazing.
I donβt do Twitter and now that itβs Xi really wonβt use it. Thanks David for getting your message out. Resistance is real! So glad Bluesky is here!
Maybe it is because you are not buried under spam and crap every time you look online. Great show, by the way. I like how you analyze the topics and how you bring in other knowledgeable people to help explain the fine details.
I had posts of mine stripped from the answers on the dark side, they were only visible to me, and I bet that was pretty systematic for liberal accounts.
Interaction was muffled, and our reach into the general population was restricted to near zero.
Is the Fishy math on Blue Sky or Twitter? I never did Twitter. Iβm looking for positive engagement away from FBβs toxic environment. Iβm learning.
Weβre all being throttled on X. Has anyone suggested a class action lawsuit against X because of it? You and I both have businesses that rely on social media to drive traffic. So do many others. In comparison #BlueSky is a breath of fresh air. Very glad to be here.
I just joined keeping X as number one

Bluesky is smaller, and has that initial, friendly, cozy feeling because people can still get to know strangers. I left Twitter before it became a total cesspool, but it was already too big and too cluttered by crap. And the crap is already here; I have exactly one real follower, the rest are bogus.
It will be interesting to see whether better moderation tools are able to preserve the initial quality across the inevitable onslaught, and I'll do what I can myself, however little, but I can't say I am very hopeful; IME humans are no good in huge groups.
The people following you here respect your opinion and are interested in what you are discussing. The other place is flooded with people who don't care or just want to argue and naysay.
I shared a lot of news at the other place and I never got any engagement. They took away my first account which had pretty good numbers and I never got my numbers back up again. I'm glad to be done with it.
Leon allowed his platform to be hijacked by trolls and bots. Too big to fail doesn't apply to his abject failure at running that platform. He's a miserable human being.
I want numbers and a breakdown please. Big fan of your show and especially your recent message about the alternative media space and whatβs needed. Perhaps do an experiment or comparison like george takei did?
It's not inevitable. At some point the other platforms made the calculation that it increases engagement to have people upset, and engagement drives dollars. It's a calculated choice to allow it and even enocourage it in the algorithm. :/
That's what I was worried about... we know there will be at least 1,000 people posting complaining about it. Hopefully, the block list helps? But I don't know how that works to be truthful. I'm still rather new to the internet;;;
I think an affective block list and a platform the actually learns from it and puts less similar content in your feed rather than feeding you more stuff exactly like stuff you've blocked (like facebook's algorithm appears to) will set Bluesky apart. Otherwise they're just another site
It's already refreshing to talk to people who kindly explain things and state their opinion without a screaming match. I'm hopeful that users like you encourage Bluesky to continue to give us what we want. Thank you for your insights, Nate β€οΈ it made my night!
I donβt know how, but Iβve stayed at 69 followers for almost two months. And that was back when I was VERY active on this app. Now that I barely ever engage, I come online to batches of new followers every other day. In comparison to the weeks of active use and no new following, it def feels off.
I thing people are both aware and actively participating this time around. I had twitler, but diffuse it but to view, and even then only on the rare occasion. People are taking an active approach on this app and MAKING it into something.

Be careful, everyone.
the presence of intelligent and compassionate people here.

They follow the Tetley principle: better teabag, better tea.
Dead bird: gagorithm
I hope youβre having a great day!
it will only last a while until the nasty bots get here.
also, most people aren't engaging with the bots... which I hope lasts lots longer.
Iβm guilty of that.

Iβm sure a lot of people just deleted the app so their account still exists and is still following you just just donβt look at/use it.
Those numbers can't be faked.
It's almost like being at a friend's place and the dude with the affliction shirt is at the bar instead.
i get way more comments here with 2K followers
That's super important.
I agree though, those blocklists have kept my feed uncluttered from trolls and MAGA clowns.
