Not to be that person mostly saying this because its just a fun fact they actually in theory would be able to because its lasers not silver. Basically back in the day mirrors were made of silver you know the stuff that kills Cryptids. Same with early photography.
The reflection not showing up in a mirror was from back when mirrors were backed with Silver. A metal that was understood to be "Sunlight in Solid Form" (with Sunlight generally being found in a "Air/Gaseous" state). The methodology of phase change was not figured out
Due to the alchemical positioning of sunlight(and its solid form, silver, and liquid form, mercury) in the hierarchy of things, it was useful for determining truth and exercising spirits/daemons that are here outside the proper order of things
Vampires are not false demonic entities piloting the body (as oppose to the soul returned after the return of the Messiah), acting as a mockery of the person you once new
Thus the silver mirror does not reflect them, due to them being a false self
Mirrors backed with aluminium, tin, etc., would not have the alchemical properties of sunlight (in its various phases), thus not have the "reflect the truth" alchemical properties that would not reflect the deceit of the Vampire
To _kill_ a vampire, you need to exhume the corpse, burn the heart and make a shake out of the heart ashes--and have a heir/patron to the vampire's family name drink it. Then remove the head, bury the body upside down with the head in the chest and arms on the wrong side of the body+crossed
I don't know. I assume it's like when an invisible person eats something.
The food either becomes invisible too, or they just look like a bunch of mushed food shaped like intestines & bowels - ikk!
... then again, in 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', the invisible guy applied white facepaint and was then able to be seen, so it's a puzzle.
🤔
Depending on how they became invisible or if it's hand-waved away, most stories about invisible people have them wearing clothes and face bandages, masks, or makeup to be visible to others.
At the very least, they wouldn't be invisible in the mirror because they're still blocking light, so there would be a shadow of some sort instead. I've thought about this way too much over the years.
It also occurred to me at one point that invisible people would be blind.
Maybe their light reception cells, though invisible, could still detect light, but the lens in their eyes wouldn't refract it so they couldn't focus an image.
Also, can they see their own bodies and even if they blink, they might still be able to see through translucent eyelids.
I'm sure it's already been done, but I'd love a story about superpowers without the necessary sub-powers/anatomical changes that would be needed. Super-strength, but the spine collapses when lifting a car. Impenetrable skin, but the shock breaks bones and causes internal damage.
Sure, vampires only give off body heat after recently feeding...
But the Silver in Mirrors merely does not reflect the vampires due the vampires acting in deceit with the natural order of things. Mirrors backed with other materials do not hold the same Alchemical properties as silver
It actually uses where the dots stop rather than a checking for a heat source as is considered what IR cameras are for. This of it like the Wii mote. The sensor bar sends our IR lights and the the remote detects it's location relevant to the lights. Face ID does both at once basically.
The reason that vampires didn't show up in mirrors was that silver, a holy metal, was used as the reflective surface. Modern mirrors and photography don't use silver, so vampires should show up just the same as everyone else.
This bothers me...vampires couldn't appear on old time photographies because cameras had internal mirrors which used silver. Digital phones don't need mirrors hence vampires would actually appear. Thank you for this debate 😁
Good point. In my roleplaying game vampires couldn't use touchscreens without rubing theirs fingers first as some original touchscreens needed a certain level of heat. That being said I just checked and it seems like anything that is room temperature is infrared spectrum...are vampires r temp?
I see no reason why !! But it's a hypothesis...Scientific process would have us test the hypothesis on a large panel of vampires and double check the result in peer review way.
Yes but first we need a hypothesis. Options:
A - they are colder than the env., so they move heat somewhere (radiators hiden?)
C - they are hotter, but that means entropy - and we know they don't age so no
B - temperature of the env.
So mirrors back in the day were made with silver, which is why vampires in lore couldn't see themselves, but i don't see why they shouldnt be able to see themselves in modern mirrors
biometric integration into personal devices is a tool of the surveillance state. what’s actually sad is that vampires can’t have their portrait painted
Oddly they can from a theoretical scientific point of view. The reasons Mirrors and old analogue photography couldn't capture the image of a vampire is meant to be due to the silver involved (same with mirrors). Modern camera phones use other metals so they could use face ID in theory.
TIL, I must be a vampire. It’s funny, I don’t crave blood, I do enjoy garlic bread, but I can’t make the Face ID thing work.
I always guessed it meant I was just a changeling… what with also having a hard time setting off faucets at the airport or automatic doors elsewhere… 🤔
Depends on if the camera uses a mirror which most digital ones do not nowadays if I'm not mistaken, old cameras used mirrors which is where the vampires don't show up on camera thing came from
Why couldn’t they? Their reflections doesn’t show but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have a face for the technology to recognize their physical facial features.
Simples, turn off the Face ID option and just use pass code instead.
Alternatively, set the phone to unlock when it senses you’re wearing a face mask (especially if have smartwatch on too)
Btw I’m intrigued as to how you know this! I’d need to meet one to believe it for myself 😆
If I was a vampire and I didn't have a reflection I'd spend my eternal life driving physicists bonkers by asking them how the light is doing that. Then I'd let them out of their misery by drinking their blood.

It becomes a plague of rats, it hides behind thralls, it obscures itself in walls and shadows...
Does it sounds like somebody we know?
Thus the silver mirror does not reflect them, due to them being a false self
When actually only wood from Ash, Hawthorne and Willow trees will work--and it does not kill them, so much as pin them into a single spot
Vampires have been somewhat Flanderised in media
(because I don't have an iPhone)

Unless its vtm lore, in which case only lasombra cant use facial id
A - they are colder than the env., so they move heat somewhere (radiators hiden?)
C - they are hotter, but that means entropy - and we know they don't age so no
B - temperature of the env.
I think B is most probable
"But I’m right here, bleh bleh bleh”
Time to tailor these bad-boys to the tech-savvy vampires in the modern age.
