It's not that they don't understand how other people are affecting the system & vice versa. They don't get that far - they don't even understand the system's effect on their own behavior!
I wish the UK's shitty drivers would similarly protest against speed limit enforcement cameras by driving more slowly. They're weird people. They complain that the cameras are simply there to generate revenue, yet refuse to do the one legal thing that would stop the cameras generating revenue.
Was in London last week and indeed it’s incredibly congested, but when the congestion pricing started there it really worked. This is a concern of not raising prices enough in London, people don’t seem to mind the charge anymore.
THE TOLLS ARE VIOLATING MY FREEDOM
Sweetie, driving is a privilege and not a right. Reread that constitution while you’re clinging to it - you might learn something.
The MTA also benefits if more people take public transit. The intention and purpose was 100% to modify behavior, and the economic models accounted for that.
So the goal was to create less traffic for the drivers who can afford to pay the toll? I just dont believe that. I think the primary motivation was to generate tax revenue for the MTA. Which is obvs needed.
It’s not a fucking mystery. There were years of hearings. There’s tons of documentation. But, go ahead and “believe” what you want. A real head for business and finance you must have.
“My bakery in soho won’t survive without the folks driving in, paying the existing tolls, searching for expensive street parking for an hour, or paying $30-$50 to park in a garage. These are my regulars why are you punishing us?”
“When I applied for my small business loan to open my bakery in soho, I was very clear that my path to profit was people driving in from Jersey, to which the loan manager said ‘why even mention something so obvious?’ and I was embarrassed because it’s common knowledge that no one lives in Manhattan”
So, some people might use public transportation unless they really want to drive into the city? And if they drive in, they'd pay a fee that will help improve public transportation? Call me crazy but it sounds like a great idea. We should try it!

Do you think this is what downtown Manhattan looks like?
But I'll take the win.
