I’m interested in starting a left wing radio station with programming to compete with the DECADES of extreme right wing radio shows. They have CAPTURED the vulnerable minds of America!
How can we make that happen?

That's why I laugh when anyone calls NPR "leftists" when center right is closer to how I would describe NPR.
If you could land a slot there, that would be a great beginning to something that could really take off.
Find one issue pertinent to that listener like veterans benefits , insulin costs, fucking over farmers.:. It has to be personal the actual brain make up of people who are conservative, is literally different than people who tend to be liberal
It needs to be personal
You wanna talk to rural America bring somebody who works with hunting and wildlife on
Or somebody from say, farm journal or 4H
Janeane Garafalo, Al Franken, Rachel Maddow...etc.
The Problem is the billionaire paradox. Without billions in sponsorships and ad buys, a network can't survive long enough to gain popularity. Which of course corrupts it....

A slow news source instead of reactionary attention grabbing ones. This is the future for so many people sick of TikTok news.
Anyone can do it. Legal since 2000. Non-commercial only.
Be on AM?
That's where the old rural Americans are.
Right is capitalism, they have the money.
Left is socialism, they work for those who have the money.
Capitalism leaves behind the misfortuned, socialism takes out the incentive to create & make progress as governments own it all.
Decent good minimum to everyone, from there it's a free market with equal opportunities to everyone.
The middle.
Before it’s too late.

I listened online.
Rachel Maddow, Al Franken, Stephanie Miller
It also had a very progressive sounding RFK Jr… :/
Rachel Maddow was every bit the scholar she is today and I always looked forward to her think pieces

I certainly don't fit in either category. Never have never will.
Talk to Oprah
You can do this
We need it now. (Well, we needed it 25 years ago but it’s never too late.)
1) find cheap radio licenses in multiple cities to buy
2) broadcast out of one central facility with content sent to those over the air stations
3) get smart, entertaining broadcasters and journalists
I like your thinking though!
Don’t do what they did.
I wanna say Al Franken was on it. He’s still around, keeping “abreast” of things so you might ask him too.
Anyway, good luck.
Try to be funny if you do it.
Get a following on HAM & have a corresponding YouTube channel
list key words for the software to pick up on
clip their points
counter their arguments 🤠

A podcast network would be far cheaper and have a far higher potential reach.
So good luck with that.
Contact Al Franken re Air America.

There was "Air America" for a while, but that went under (It was "ran" by Al Franken and Maddow got her start there).
"Left wing" folks aren't as into politics as "Right wing" folks.
But historically?
No.
But I think a different approach to liberal radio would help change that. I have some ideas on this if you seriously want to talk about it.
And with two right wing political parties trading control over government, and the 'public discourse' good luck getting a license
As far as left wing, I think they are just as likely to have empathetic people that are NOT intellectuals as the right. They are just as likely to hear a thing that "feels right" without verifying it.
Find a theme song as good as "My City was Gone"
Maybe just use "My City was Gone".
Chrissie Hynde would probably appreciate the reappropriation.
It’s where Rachel Maddow got her start, but I think they had trouble finding sponsors.
Might be easier now!

A lot of truckers and farmers, can't always get good FM signals. AM carries better. If you can swing it, get translated into Spanish.

I want to read your article...

The Putin style of social design is in full effect and mainstream media is complicit.
I'd rather be writing essays and books than doing a podcast! Though I'm happy to do an occasional interview. I haven't had anything to do with GN since 2023.
I see some replies suggesting “airing all views” is necessary.
No, pro-democracy views don’t have a place to be heard. Pro-democracy views are needed.
You need the FCC, not some guy on the internet who made a youtube video.
Be aware of copyright laws and ensure you have the necessary permissions to use any content, including music, images, and audio clips.
Advertising Regulations:
You'll need to comply with advertising regulations
you should meet the activist staff leaders i worked with.
FCC Regulations:
You'll need to comply with various FCC regulations regarding broadcasting, including content standards, identification announcements, and community service requirements.
If you plan to play copyrighted music you'll need licenses from PROs like ASCAP and BMI, which manage music copyrights and collect royalties
Payments:
You'll need to pay royalties to these organizations for the right to play music publicly.
In addition to the FCC license, you'll likely need to obtain business licenses from your state or local government.
Business Structure:
You'll need to choose a business structure (e.g., sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC).
You'll need to provide technical details about your station's equipment and frequency.
Business Plan:
You'll also need to provide a business plan outlining your station's operations and financial projections.
Types of Licenses:
The FCC licenses FM radio and full-power TV stations as either commercial or noncommercial educational (NCE).

Perhaps we start by getting in touch with those who did it once and find out what lessons they learned and who would like to try again?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_America_(radio_network)
Your problem is not getting a license, you problem is finding an unused frequency available in your market. THAT's where the $$$$ comes in.
A podcast would be a much better option
Sadly, all the intellectual discussions are only understood by a tiny sliver of the general population 🤠
If that doesnt work, then find a magical unicorn, which is more likely to exist..
Or do it on a shoestring. AM950 in MN has like a one percent market share. I like em.
The 40 year right wing project to flood rural AM.. not easy to counter that. But no reason to not go for it.
The stations are out there. But you have to hook them. Rogan was just a comedian who talked about MMA. Now he’s not. More money in catering to what people want to hear than telling them facts.
