the thing congress should have done is enter with a sworn capitol police, protective service, or really literally any other sworn officer, say they're investigating a crime SINCE THEY ARE, and barge in

If they're aiming for a headline (and presumably trying to win support), "Senators were prevented from entering" is arguably a stronger story than "Senators entered".
We can obviously debate the validity of the assumptions baked in there (what's happening isn't that bad, courts will stop it, etc.), but it's not completely devoid of logic.
I honestly believe they think that being turned away is better for fundraising. Dems have learned to play the victim during times like this because it's good for raising funds.
Huh. Lately I’ve been thinking House Democrats are “real” but Senate Democrats are not. They often sound woefully out of touch. What do you think we need for it to be a “real” party? Because the DNC doesn’t do long term goal planning they just fundraise?
The new head of the DNC hit on exactly what you said. He said the party doesn't long term plan, doesn't campaign throughout the year, and only really gets active around elections.
Also he said the party begs for money too much and doesn't have a message.
He also said the party is now run by consultants. Consultants who are mainly interested in getting paid, nothing else, hence the constant begging for money.
The first US Senator to be tackled and detained by one of Elon's mall cops while entering a government building will instantly become a folk hero and tank Elon's already low favorability. Who's gonna realize this is a huge opportunity for their own political career?
The Democrats are not in charge of the Capitol Police. Not even the Speaker is in charge of the Capitol Police -- didn't we all learn that on January 6?
Dems also can't just declare, "They are committing a crime!" and demand entry. They'd need a warrant specifying a crime.
Warrants are intended to protect individuals from the government. I don’t see how elected representatives would need a warrant to go to a government agency.
Yes, why not? Do you think politicians can just roam around, demanding (and getting) access to any government building if a guard say access is restricted?
If someone is wearing a uniform (ANY uniform) and tells you that they're being paid to tell you what to do, you believe you have to do what the rented unitorm person says?? Private rent-a-cop authority is the law of the land?
This is an argument for the existence of no actual law, just power.
I mean… that’s what the police are *supposed* to be for, right? When a crime is being committed, you call them, they show up to investigate. Just find the ones who are pissed that the J6ers who killed their coworkers got pardoned…
@chrismurphyct.bsky.social can you all do this tomorrow with Capitol police? You are entitled to go into these entities and don’t get why you all aren’t
I am very curious where DC’s many police forces stand on this and wonder if they would side with Elon or with the legislators. I really don’t know the answer but it’s been on my mind a lot.
They wouldn't be ' barging'.....pls begging You..don't buy into sick MAGA notions that those seeking Democracy are somehow doing ANYTHING wrong. Just show patience. We are NOT barging anywhere
The guard is operating under the authority of the protective service. They literally answer to the protective service. They are a federal contractor and they handle security at federal buildings across the country. The senator knows that. He authorizes the money to pay the guard.
They tried that, and apparently the armed private security was ready for them this time. Might have something to do with who signs paychecks and awards security contracts.
Prove it: show us pictures, don't just assert "Oh they totally did the thing you want them to do and it didn't work, honest. No you can't actually check for yourself, don't be silly."
Yes. And you keep walking past them. They’re not legally allowed to keep them out of that building. So keep walking past them and if you get tackled, so be it
Thank you! I do not understand why this didn't happen at Treasury and every other agency. Why is CONGRESS letting people die from lack of USAID. Arrest Musk and minions!
They're Alzheimer patients, probably with hip replacements. No one is brawling in Congress anymore unless someone grabs Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton players from the off-Broadway show. #TermLimits
Kinda wild considering that's what musk and his cronies have done every single time.
Oh, but we can't be brash and uncivilized while trying to stop racist takeovers
Unfortunately they couldn't say that because the EPA falls under the Executive Branch and Trump, unfortunately, has authority to issue clearances and access (clearance flows from the President's Article II powers and nothing else), and control access to federal buildings.
This is Monday morning quarterbacking after reading 24 Fan fiction. The Capitol Police has very little authority outside of protective investigations/ops outside the Capitol, that is, the rest of the Capital (know the difference). Congress can't compel or charge law enforcement to do what your play
You just wrote "the thing congress should have done is enter with a sworn capitol police, protective service, or really literally any other sworn officer, say they're investigating a crime SINCE THEY ARE, and barge in" which again is bad 24 Fan Fiction.
it has nothing to do with what he can or can't do, it's what he would or wouldn't do. the fact you're still here citing rules and things suggests you really don't understand the situation.
I totally understand your outrage, but tell me again what is a Congressperson and a Capitol police officer supposed to do when the guard says, "I'm sorry, you're not authorized here,"? That's what you're monday morning quarterbackeding. I know what the Congress people should've done, and have done
TBF the alphabet of agencies and contractors and who has what jurisdiction over what building is complicated and nuanced even for some sworn law enforcement.
Yeah, I hold very little ill will to the guy doing the stopping (based on the PIV card he's probably been doing this job for a while now, as they take forever to print) as he's just doing things as usual (not everyone can go into a federal workplace) Markey should FORCE THINGS
This is not a question of what they should have done. This is performance. They aren’t interested in doing anything real or they would have done it. They are COMPLICIT

I'm trying really hard not to be The West Wing Guy lately, but it really is essentially the ending here. https://youtu.be/AK8HfO6jXxA?si=HHcvDVw4Fmk38LpU
If they REALLY wanted to go in, they would have.
This illegal occupant needs to be dragged from the building ASAP.
Also he said the party begs for money too much and doesn't have a message.
He will try to change all that.
I’ll donate again when I see results.
Dems also can't just declare, "They are committing a crime!" and demand entry. They'd need a warrant specifying a crime.
"I worked on a military base. Senators showed up there"
Oh, did they show up unannounced? And then go where ever they want? Pushing aside military police.
"Well...no. But they could've!"
OK.
Yes, and that's the biggest problem on this side at the moment.
That doesn't sound right to me.
Yes, go get a warrant.
WTH are people even talking about?
But if you're talking about me, specifically: I have no authority to hire security guards at govt buildings.
I do at my house, though! And if someone tries to barge in without a warrant, they could get shot.
If/when they get arrested, please advise them what to do next.
This is an argument for the existence of no actual law, just power.
What's the penalty for ignoring private security when you're Congress?
Why should Congress bow to private security at a government facility?
I’m not a member of Congress. I can and should be stopped by security.
Do you comprehend the difference or are you just a dipshit troll?

“Quick, take a photo of a security guy blocking me so I can go play golf the rest of the day!”
