fwiw "I don't know what the big deal is" is the starting point for most people on trans rights and even if they've been moved to the right by the past few years of propaganda getting people back to their natural attitude is not insurmountable or even particularly difficult

That the show was not an endorsement of Tony's lifestyle.
Then the creator may occasionally speak up and shatter that illusion.
Why many creators don't speak up, they are worried about their livelihood.
They need that affirmation.
For me?
Personally I try to separate artists politics from the art, esp if the art is collaborative.
Mad Max 1-2 still good, even if Mel is a horrible wacko.
I've yet to find exceptions.
I'm sure she's a wonderful daughter
It's why calling them weird was so effective.

My kid wakes up and sees that we didn't put away some stuff from last night. Some kids think things just happen. I had to point out "did you put it away? Did I put it away? Did anyone else do it?" Some don't grow out of it.
He now knows things happen when we do them.
So you plop Riley Gaines and her 5th place tie up there.
It's a great way to start deprogramming folks who have fallen down a propaganda hole.
My kids are 4 and 5, so who knows what the future holds for them. I've tried explaining to my parents that you can't support people who are demonizing marginalized groups because it doesn't impact you. If you help take their rights now, don't expect our forgiveness later.
If they could be decent about it during segregation times, that implies modern bigotry isn't some immutable law.
Men want to marry other men? People want to change their gender? I don't give a shit, let them.
The most pro LGBTQ+ right opinion if it's in an argument with those who -
- are against it: "I don't give a shit."
- are for it: "You have my support for your rights, because I don't give a shit."
It might not be much, but I think it's helpful.
Trans women really throw a monkey wrench into the gears.

It's a big list.
There are so many people who think their lives would be better if we created a sort of "Roman Republic 2.0" where only wealthy White men were in charge.
But also, there’s a bunch of people who don’t actually give a shit, they’ve just been hyper-exposed to right wing propaganda that lies about “libs” making everything about trans issues.
This is very upsetting to people who need to believe a man will always beat a woman in sports. and they consider a trans woman to be a man.
They also need women to be afraid of men's physical strength.

In reality, they would be ejected and lose by default.

The point these shows are trying to make, however, is that men can easily hurt women.
This is why they don't care that much about trans men competing against cis men, even when they win.
(cont)
This is the driving force behind bathroom bills and not wanting trans women to share locker rooms with trans women.
(cont)
Women competing and socializing with trans women threatens to disrupt their control.
If we'd leave them alone, we'd be better off and so would they.
Their wanting to exist and be treated decently does not hurt us at all.
But a lot of profession opinion havers sure do like the predatory clicks.
