The Wuhan lab is STILL doing unsafe research that could trigger a pandemic AND getting prestigious pubs as incentive.π«
To fix this for the future, we have to admit we were deliberately misled on the possibility of a lab leak in the past. Horrid but true.

Not the worst or the only examples. A lot more misleading than any of your examples.
Was the genesis of this anecdote from the manuscript that Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao published and retracted (excerpt pictured), which made the same mistake?
Wuhan is 1000km from nearest know pop of wild bats carrying like viruses.
Second, there were like viruses in Xiaogan, right outside Wuhan: https://academic.oup.com/ve/article/8/1/veac046/6601809
Third, the earliest lab leak theories were about viruses from Zhejiang.
That, to you, has become burner phones used by a whole group.
One paranoid guy told the world (not secret) that he used a new phone provided by his institution (linked to his identity).
Come on.
In reality, that approach ends up empowering those forces even more while leaving us all less safe.
Find your spine, folks. Itβs right and itβs better, albeit unpleasant.
Throwing around accusations of spinelessness isnβt so powerful when itβs too vague for anyone to answer.

Also, this article the same problem that the original downplaying of the lab leak analysis hadβ¦ an overconfidence about managing the publicβs view.
But if the origin theories had been handled better, would RFK and Trump be more reasonable? Would the people who believe them believe them less? Clearly not.
Wuhan lab is still doing extremely risky research that can trigger a pandemic under insufficient BSL-2 β which got Baric to write that in the NYT.
And they got rewarded with publication in prestigious outlet.

So any claims to the contrary β some made them β were always false.

Perhaps there was a lab leak in 2019 summer which released a less virulent but still dangerous variant. This is the explanation for the early Italy etc results. Then the virus mutated into what we know at the market.
... it was a market that just happened to be selling live animals.
Is there see strong evidence to prove an outbreak elsewhere before that?
That being true, researchers in virus should pull up their protocols.
But I fear the potential hooferaw that will end up with biologists being lynched.
I'm curious if you agree with my thoughts in this short thread?

I am not a scientist. I cannot follow the technical details.
I was an air traffic controller. I understand truth. And trust.
Lies won't fix either. This needs fixing.
"To this day, there is no strong scientific evidence ruling out a lab leak or proving that the virus arose from human-animal contact in that seafood market. "
So: there is no evidence proving that the virus came from a lab leak.
I found out about your story because the far-right on Twitter is celebrating it.
Gee I wonder why.
