You are one of the brightest stars I know in an otherwise dark world. I could not be prouder to hear of your success, but it doesn’t surprise me. I sense you have more determination and grit than almost anyone else I know in independent media.
Hell ya sis. Way to go! I drank heavily for years after getting out of the army and I'm glad those days are behind me. I switched my vice to cannabis, which is still a vice but exponentially less destructive. I can't raw dog this reality and I give props to anyone who can.
whenever anybody offers me a drink, I always decline and tell them them I only smoke my beers while making the smokey smokey sign with my thumb and index finger
Congratulations. I scaled back to about 10 alcoholic drinks a year a long time ago. I don't miss it, enjoy a libation occasionally for a celebratory event. Being in control and management of what we put inside of ourselves is empowering. Relish in it.
Just keep going, one day at a time! The longer you’re away from it, the more clearly you’ll see how it did nothing positive for you, and actually caused more problems than you ever realized. 8-1/2 years now and I don’t miss it! You’ve got this!
From one of those fantastic “Champagne” wineries up in the beautiful California terroir the monster mentioned during all of the big tariff rollout???? 🤣😭
General Strike starts 5/1/25:
Unions, wobble.
Share the strike with your local news & national social media platforms, companies and family members.
Support the strikers by working together, introduce a barter system, provide bail, food, sanitation. https://Indivisible.org https://generalstrikeus.org https://FiftyFifty.one
Me either. I’ve greatly reduced the amount over the last few months. There are times the current administration makes me want to… jfc… whiplash 🙄 eye rolls are the new dance craze apparently.
Can I get some tips on how you achieved that for an acquaintance who heads the Department of Defense? The guy is at risk of losing his job and even going to jail.
Nice! Sept 3, 2024 for me. It feels good. After decades of drinking, my liver did a good job, it can go back to normal filtering again. :)
THC helps. I make drops for going out to add to non-alcoholic drinks to mentally “fit in” with friends if we go out. Good for you though! It’s tough right now
They are based on this same recipe. Infused MCT Oil with Maltodextrin (refined tapioca powder), sunflower lecithin and some water.
I have a Levo Herbal infuser and basically sky’s the limit. Butter, oils, etc. If you don’t smoke (or can’t), infusing is a great option. https://ayrloom.com/products/beverage-enhancer
Totally get that, social anxiety mixed with alcohol can be a rough combo. Those drops sound like a smart, mellow alternative. Hope they help you feel more at ease without the downsides.
Congrats on your decision! I'm 52 and have never understood the desire to drink. The taste and smell literally gags me. I'm not morally opposed to drinking (even though I grew up Southern Baptist), I just don't like it.
Concentrates/bud~got it all! Besides the brain drain of this upside down time line, said meds are for chronic physical discomfort too! Nature is awesome!
I've only tried their Sauv Blanc (decent - not tart enough to be an exact replica imho (but I like very dry whites), but reasonably drinkable), and their dealcoholized prosecco which is indistinguishable (again, imho) from real prosecco.
Yes!!!! I chose not to drink after 50 years and it's been amazing! Everyday the cobwebs brush off and let more light in. Never going back. Kudos to you!
Sure! I was super-surprised by Best Day Brewing. They have a hazy IPA that could have fooled me. I’ve also making a lot of IPA at home, so I’m a solid hoppy kinda guy. It’s totally worth a try, Benjamin! 👊🏻
Just got back from a trip from PNW and tried an NA IPA Sober Carpenter. I REALLY liked it. Also, Sierra Nevada Brewery has an IPA called Trail Pass that’s pretty good.
I’ve had a LOT of Athletic, even their web-only releases and the only one that I’ve had that downs taste like it’s the same base beer is the limited-release Safe Stream IPA.
The rest all seem to use the same foundation, at least to me.
I get it. It has been a rough time to find good n/a stuff. Oddly, I've always liked the taste of it all, so I'm happy there are better options out there. Even 4 years ago there were SLIM n/a pickins.
Way to go! I was always a lightweight- but had to stop 10 years ago due to 💊 post brain cancer diagnosis. Haven’t missed it a lick! Thank goodness I can still drink coffee! Health is a gift so I hope you keep it up!
I grew up eith 2 raging (literally) alcoholics and nearly became one myself. I still *very* occasionally have a glass of wine with dinner (I live in France) but I don't keep it in the house.
Alcohol-free sleep is amazing and worth preserving!
Don't stop! I was a bartender and bar manager for 30 years. I promise you alcohol does you no favors. I know at least five people who drank themselves to death by 50.
thats fantastic!
I have over 10 years now sober myself. Just gotta find a way to live that satisfies you without the garbage. For some its AA for some its religion and I would argue that any way you can do it is valid honestly
Congratulations. I stopped drinking (wine was my thing) vino in November 2024. I drink non-alcoholic wine occasionally. It was hard around the holidays but I don't miss it anymore.
Allison, I read the book The Naked Mind, by Annie Grace, about 2 months ago. Then decided to take better care of myself and gave up the alcohol. Best thing ever! Good luck.
Right on. It's been 23 years for me. I went from living in a storage unit because I gave up on life to being married with having a family. I bought my first home, and I am living a life of happiness. Keep on keeping on.
I started with 60 days sober. Went so well I figured I would do another 30 days. That was 36 years ago. Best thing I ever did. It will be the best thing you ever did too.
Keep going 🙏🏻👏🏻👍🏻✊🏻✌🏻
I'll have to do the same because I can't afford any extra costs in the grocery bill any more. No booze, no snacks, no frills, no cosmetics. Staples, meat, produce, rx, pet food, that is it.
I can get black out drunk without a hangover. My autoimmune diseased body does weird. Given my family history on both sides with addiction, I just have the occasional beneficial white wine. Hubs is sober, too.
Good for you!! I think everyone needs to be as clear minded as possible in the coming days, weeks & months. And 100% focused on what is real or what is fabricated for our own sanity and safety
I applaud you! I’ve been w/o the sauce since mid-October. Considering the daily cluster that is America right now, I consider it a pretty amazing accomplishment.
Congratulations! I had my last drink nearly 30 years ago. I stopped for religion. My thinking has changed over the years. I love the smell of good Scotch and I like beer. So I am tempted. But the thought of muddled behavior (after a few), and a hangover, just turns me off. No thanks.
It’s been 20 years and a similar for me. Was never a big drinker but my body began reacting to even an ounce or two of alcohol, putting me in the hospital more than once with out of control atrial fibrillation. I enjoyed a dark beer but my body recoils now at the thought of what is poison to it.
Girl, I did this, went 30 days no alcohol (and I LOVED my wine) and I felt so good and clear-minded after 30 days that I just kept putting off having any. It’s been 6.5 years now(!) and I’ve known at any time I could have a drink if I wanted, but I just don’t want to. To each her own, so good on ya.
Don’t remember exactly, but within 30 days for sure. I was so surprised that I actually felt different. Didn’t think I would enjoy not drinking, because I was really into good wine. But I just enjoy feeling better now and certainly spend less money.
Yes, of course. However, you have been able to string together twenty four years in July, that’s a hell of an accomplishment. One day at a time and sometimes one hour at a time. Way to go! 👊🏽☮️
I kinda did that. Decided not to drink for a couple of weeks, then just felt better, so kept extending it. I never really meant to stop-stop, but never picked it up again. I feel very fortunate. That was something like 12 years ago?
Congratulations!!! Proud of U!!! I'm quitting cigarettes after decades... April 12th was my last one.
I've also got 9 years and 3+ months clean... not even a beer. U can DO it, One Day At A Time!!! Just don't do it... TODAY. Tomorrow isn't here yet, & the past is gone. U CAN DO THIS!!!
Treat yourself gently. Go have a spa day. Walk the beach. Play with your cats. Have a pajama day. Celebrate you. Take break from the noise and hurly-burly of the internet.
143 days for me - it was time to quit and I’m glad I did. Sleep, mood, health, anxiety, energy etc all so much better without alcohol. Congrats on 30 keep it up!
I decided to do this and now I'm on day 436 and will never go back. Once I got back to celebrating things without alcohol and being fully present... game changer.
When your ready, it will happen.
Ask yourself who's in charge of yourself, you or YOU? Cause it's just your brain doing things...
Best of luck my friend :)
Start writing down the exact amount of time and money you spend on drinking. Include notes on important things you avoided because you were drinking or crappy things that happened as a direct result of a drinking session.
Start easy, logging the money. It's CRAZY how much $$$ we waste on our vices.
Replace the beverage with a similar type. I was big beer drinker so Kombucha helped me a lot, especially in social dring environs. (Though be mindful it's effect on your digestive system... I over-consumed of a long time, started to feel like I was expelling after a bucket of extra-hot hot wings.)
The only way for the body to process alcohol is for the liver to convert it to acetaldehyde. Literally poison. Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer along the digestive tract from the mouth all the way through, plus breast cancer. My intestines were a mess when I drank. My sleep sucked. I woke up tired.
I couldn't go a day without alcohol (only a little, but every day). I listened to The Naked Mind audiobook while I did the dishes each night and it removed my desire to drink alcohol. 17 months. Good luck!
Not drinking was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done and it’s been two decades. I quit smoking in the last two years and managed to do it without killing anyone which I’m amazed by. But I can tell you overall I’m very happy with both of them. Congratulations and keep going.
Your body will thank you. I've recently learned how bad alcohol is for your health in general - even if you don't drink excessively. Yes, we all knew about the liver, etc. But now we've discovered so many other consequences. It's been about 3 years for me. Don't really miss it.

It's a move that will probably serve you well.
Me, at every family gathering. Ever.
You will make it! 👍🏼
1 day at a time.
I'm at 35 years, 1 day at a time. Don't even notice, now.
34 years here.
(Although when he dies I'm having champagne!)
Domain Chandon is an hour's drive from here.
😆
Sorrryy! It’s fun being a shit. Hahahhaha
I need to get a bottle of something to throw in the fridge for that special day. And yeah, Domaine Chandon sounds wonderful!
Have a great weekend

Still an asshole, now available in sober.
I wish I had done this sooner.
Keep at it. 💪
Now, I rarely drink. A drink here and there.
It just works better for me.
Still.. I’m thinking… I don’t hate not drinking…
I’m up to 2+ years without a sip. I do not miss it.
The muni lot and Browns losing is less fun but… now it’s just my team that’s a disaster and not me!

I picked up 3 six-packs of NA today, from Athletic, Lagunitas, and even Deschutes! Looking forward to trying them out!
The rest all seem to use the same foundation, at least to me.

Over A Decade Without The Sauce & Loving It! Take Care!
Take Care!!
I did a dry January (2 years ago) and just continued it.
Best decision & I ever made.
Hang tough
Rock on !!
You got this
💖😎💖
Keep going 🙏🏻👏🏻👍🏻✊🏻✌🏻
Don't give up now, you will start feeling better and you will not want to let go of that feeling soon enough!
#sobersky
I do the counting thing too.
78 days no alcohol.
170 days I had 5 drinks interspersed in (none for the last 78 obvi).
By making it a thing it becomes a thing.
I've Been Off The Sauce For Years & Loving It!
Keep Going, We're With You!👍
I still shake, and sometimes alot
What can set me off, almost anything; aromas, moments, memories, anxiety
There are certain meals I cannot enjoy
Medicines I cannot use
Social outings are weirder
I used counselling and hypnotism
I've also got 9 years and 3+ months clean... not even a beer. U can DO it, One Day At A Time!!! Just don't do it... TODAY. Tomorrow isn't here yet, & the past is gone. U CAN DO THIS!!!

Be kind to YOU!
Keep up the good work!
One day at a time.
Congrats??👍
Sober here, for 33 years, 4 months, seventeen days.
I would give hours too, but am tired and math is hard enough!
*Oh, it's 34 years!😁
Ask yourself who's in charge of yourself, you or YOU? Cause it's just your brain doing things...

Too many hangovers and general health problems for him. He could have two piss waters and his body would throw a fit.
Start easy, logging the money. It's CRAZY how much $$$ we waste on our vices.
If it's wine, perhaps a fruit drink, cranberry or straight grape juice.
or
Day One
One day
or
Day Won
You can do it.
Question: does Ozempic play a role?
Congrats Liz!✨✌️👏
