Right. Because they always know where the fire is going to break out and they station extra fire engines in that place? C'mon. This is straight bullshit.
It is always windy, you expect all units to be deployed at all times patrolling?
I guess by that note she should have had guards at every powerline pole too, that way they can react immediately if a spark should cause a fire.
You clearly have no idea how fires grow, especially when it is windy.
Is this a serious response? You think Jan 6th was close to typical and didn't require all hands on deck, instead of being allowed to go home for the night?
I guess that explains why you think the chief did all she could. It was inevitable.
fighting fires is hard and complicated. criticism and firing does not seem like a great way to build the longevity of a very valuable workforce. what a terrible move by Bass
There was no reasonable way to prep for something that happens once every hundred years. It was a fire hurricane, it's amazing that more lives & property weren't lost & that is a testament to the fire fighters who did everything they could. Sometimes shit happens & there's no way to prevent it.
The fire chief has not given a good explanation why:
- The extra fire trucks weren't predeployed to the Palisades
- 1,000 firefighters weren't ordered to extend their shifts
Yep, way too many people on here are fatalistic. "Nothing could have been done."
If that was the case, she'd have spoke up already about where all the extra trucks and personnel were & why they wouldn't have made a meaningful difference. Instead, she has said nothing beyond blaming the budget.
THANK YOU!!! SHE WAS FUCKING DERELICT IN HER DUTIES! CHECK HER BANK ACCOUNTS BECAUSE SHE FUCKED UP TOO MUCH AND WITH ZERO REGARD FOR PEOPLE!!! She had to go! I agree! Makes you wonder who DAFUK all these people here are against Bass?? MAGA in disguise??!
At least during the height of the crisis, they brought the temp down & shelved this moment for later, despite it being an obvious possible/likely outcome.
They both put LA residents & focus on the fires as the first priority in that way, and I appreciate that. Politics are always gonna politic tho.
How vengeful of her. I saw the footage from Ghana and she looked strung out on something. This is because she is trying to remove her own blame over this.
The fire chief was honest about large budget cuts. That was brave but bass couldn’t take that. Bass was the one that was out of the country and shouldn’t have been in Ghana. The chief is an accomplished fire fighting professional and has been made a scapegoat. I hope she appeals.

If you read the story, former fire chiefs & captains are the ones saying the damage from the fire would have been significantly reduced.
If you think a couple dozen trucks and 1,000 extra fire fighters wouldn't make a difference, OK.
I guess by that note she should have had guards at every powerline pole too, that way they can react immediately if a spark should cause a fire.

Shame.

The chief didn't properly prepare. So she's gone.
