On one hand, I sincerely hope that we don't have a major catastrophic storm anywhere in the country, & on the other, it's March, and Tornodoes in the US occur most from March to June, and this is just disaster waiting to befall the US
The county emergency management (EM) in partnership with area tribal EM services, and city EM departments work closely with the NOAA folks in Norman (OU) to monitor storm activity. Now that staff is/has been cut, it is unclear how EM will be affected. Hold onto your hats!
.. first 10, then 20 then 40, and its not just NOAA. And expect 30 day admin pay then game over. ~14th will be a dark day for many unless something happens to stop it beforehand. And judging by the last month, prepare for worst, use sick time and FSA, and get dr and dentist appointments done asap.
Well shit. As a person living in Oklahoma, where my house was affected by a tornado, I’m furious. Because of the NOAA professionals, we were able to go to ground in time. Because of FEMA, we were able to move forward. @altfema.bsky.social will ALWAYS have my appreciation.
Yes, I grew up in tornado alley and knowing in advance is absolutely what saves lives. As with all of these cuts, I’m afraid that more people will die.
Insanity. When will it end? Our country will be stripped bare of all of its functioning parts and the Repubs will be like vultures picking over the bones.
In an age where climate volatility is our new normal, reducing NOAA’s workforce by 20% feels like grounding pilots mid-flight.
These cuts risk the integrity of weather forecasts, disaster responses, and climate research, services upon which countless lives and industries depend.
NOAA need my weather forecasts! Seriously, I love following the weather and take this personally. Plus making weather forecasting worse is going to cost lives.
If something isn’t done now I really don’t know if we will make it till 2026. The courts can only do so much. We need to start throwing our support behind blue and independent Governors, state legislators,AGs and advocacy organizations.Thank you AltNPS for advocating for us all
I'm from a red state and did not vote for this. In fact, most of us did not. Please consider those of us who don't have hate filled hearts, and all the voter suppression tactics that led to this.
My husband works for the NWS. We live in a red State. We might have the fun of both losing half our income, after a 31-year career protecting his neighbors' lives and property, and being put at great risk during tornado season. Good times.
The right has a much stonger social media presence. The opinion of blue states toward red states seems to be about the same as the world's view of all of the US.
Please understand the voter suppression, gerrymandering and strategic lack of funding for education that creates red states.
It's all done on purpose. And how many times have trump and musk admitted now that they rigged the election.
Stop looking left and right for the blame. LOOK UP.
Forest Ranger Amanda dedicated years to protecting public lands, educating future generations, and ensuring visitor safety. Despite awards and exemplary service, she was suddenly fired during mass federal layoffs, leaving her passion and the forests she cared for behind. https://youtu.be/pSfxsTqJkVM?
I knew an acquaintance a decade or so ago working at NOAA in Silver Spring, MD who made at lateral job change over to DOT down near L'Enfant Plaza, DC. Would he be affected or did he dodge the proverbial bullet by changing agencies??
I’m not hoping for inadequate tornado warnings in red states. That would be cruel. Though if it happens I hope people in those states wake the Eff up to the consequences of their vote.
I’m asking Floridians to sign a petition to recall Rick Scott. He won’t hold town halls and won’t respond to constituents calls. I’ve called daily for a month and no one has ever answered.
It may not be constitutionally supported, but it can send a collective message.
Elmo is looking to replace NOAA satellites with Starlink, just like he's looking to move the FAA onto his satellites and scrap the deal with Verizon to use fiber (which is safer, faster, more durable, more reliable, and won't run into another of his satellites due to incompetence).
Brought to you by tens of millions of voters standing in the ruins of 2 consecutive record hurricanes. These racists voted to accelerate global warming and bring themselves a lot more pain.
Omg leave NOAA alone you absolute weirdos. This is all about the marker hurricane incident. Narcissist. They can't tolerate being corrected or told they are wrong. In trumps case, because he is an idiot it happens all the time. It's definitely personal on his end. (IMO) Thank you NOAA staff!!!!
And Bluesky helps! I miss the Twitter of 2016-, when the #Resistance was in its infancy. Bluesky fills the void better than any other site, for chatting with like-minded Patriots! 😎
Living in tornado alley, I feel like this is a very bad idea. Given the majority of people here voted for this, it is a FAFO moment for that 65%. The rest of us are just screwed for no good reason.
whyyyy? Does apartheid Clyde not understand that well funded and well staffed climate science centers would actually help out SpaceX's operations? God the MAGA axis is so fucking stupid
Australia has just suffered a cyclone...can't imagine what that would have been like with a depleted Bureau of Meterology (similar to your NOAA) trying to keep people informed.
Felon47 and Co Pres Stench are putting Americans at risk knowingly and willingly.
So, I guess the weather forecasts I use to plan spring planting, summer watering and autumn harvesting just got 20% less accurate.
If I lose crops to frost, I know who I’m blaming. It’s definitely not uncle NOAA.
No climate change or global warming either. Good thing they aren't lifting any regulations related to pollution by their corporate friends at the same time.
I listen to a lot of period cozy mysteries (Regency, Victorian, 1929s). A common plot point is guests trapped at a country house because they were unprepared for an unexpected blizzard. Of course that was pre-NWS, NOAA, and NASA, but unfortunately it seems we may be headed back in that direction…
Oh, now, there’s always a murder to be solved. But yea, we’re not looking at people getting trapped in a well-stocked country house with servants to keep the fires lit. We’re looking at them getting stuck on a highway and freezing to death in their car.

Get Musk on it, Trump believes Musk can do anything, so get on it Elon.

No more storms!!
We already had heavy losses last week from the firings, fork, and retirements, but they want to destroy us.

We like NOAA for a reason.
Like during hurricane season.
Will Trump cuts make us sorry?
Nope. He’ll fix it with his sharpie.
And no FEMA to help afterwards.
All States I guess

NOAA is responsible for National Marine Sanctuaries.
They study the oceans which are interconnected to our daily lives.
Today I spent time in a NOAA managed marine sanctuary and saw a literal WHITE WHALE!
A WHITE KILLER WHALE!!!!
Cutting staff puts our oceans and sealife at risk!
