The management and ownership got into the press rooms and pulled the reigns back on the 'journalists' ability to report. There were so many times they had a story handed to them in a giant bow, and they talked about what color the bow was. I think cats could've reported the news better.
Everyone
Please take a deep breath & think this out.
We do not want the left news MSNBC to go down the tubes,we need them.
What we all want is for them to STOP talking about T every minute of their hour, every day. Tell us what he did & then have people on to tell us what we can do to keep Democrac
Until they start covering more than just 45 and politics, I just can't. Yes, politics is news. It's just not the only news. I'd like to find a watchable source for news that's not just solely political news. That's just me, one former viewer.

That's it for me as well but I haven't gone back yet.
Still too soon for me because I'm still pissed
Normally a Republican winning is a ratings booster for msnbc. So far I think people just don’t want to face reality. Their ratings could recover. But I also think people have lost trust and there won’t be a recovery for that. Interestingly all the cable networks’ ratings were down on election night.
I know how to fix this.Just have journalists report on news, the potential cause and effects using verified factual data; not emotion. Then put it in the context of what this means for the viewer. No one wants to watch journalists shove their nose into trumps brown star normalizing things not normal
People are tired due to the outcome of the US Presidential Elections that was happened a few days ago. Corporate media have been sane-washed by Trumpism.
Yes, FOX lost a lot of viewers after the 2020 election. Once our pain heals a bit and the orange idiot starts wreaking havoc on the country -- we will start watching responsible news again. (But not Joe and Mika!)
CNN and MSNBC are not subscription services. They're not losing subscribers and it's not a referendum on their editorial policy. Their viewers are simply exhausted by political news and are pulling back. They'll be back in a few months.
Have to be honest having Morning Joe and Mika kiss the ring was kind of par for the course from a media I am told is liberal but never really is. CNN and MSNBC specifically seem to be trying to be a counter Fox, not not really, wait, well, maybe if they try to be more center, audience leaves.
I interviewed at CNN a few years ago, I was not feeling the vibe, one of the interviewers last name was Rothchild so when asked if I had any questions I asked said interviewer if he ruled the world. I didn’t get the job, to this day I’m proud of my response
They’ve earned that drop. Lawrence is it for me on MSNBC. When Katie Phang finally takes over Mitchell’s spot, I’ll watch her on my days off. The rest of them, and CNN are verboten in this household.
Also MSNBC is being let go by its parent co., along with all other cable networks, and Elon wants to know how much it costs! Thank goodness for you guys!
This network's main failure was to understand that most of their viewers were heart wrenched, and just did not want to tune into all of the doom, gloom, and blame assessments that would follow. Most people I know binge-streamed BRITBOX etc non-stop. Bet those ratings were up! Then they panicked!
I’m on a post-election news diet and just don’t want the churn of speculative filler from MSNBC and CNN right now. I will tune in again after January 20.
It's a combination of them normalising Trump, Musk and the rest of his cult...
And people are just sick of politics at the moment.
It's extremely tiring having to fight alt-right misinformation every hour of the day.
same here but I dumped CNN in 2016 I love Lawrence but I will not give them any views regardless, they made their choice as a network now they have to live with it, it wasnt like we werent shouting at them to stop sane washing 45.
It is too depressing to watch. I finally turned on MSNBC on monday. We they announced they went to to meet trump. It just made me more depressed. I feel like that trumps lies, manipulation and hate is winning. When will truth and goodness prevail?
Joe and Mika screwed up, royally. And most of us can’t deal with seeing the orange rapist and his lackeys on TV. It’s bad enough we have to read about them, but not as grating as hearing their voices or seeing their traitorous mugs.
Well in the 68\70+ group, we quit CNN after President Biden because they picked at him and spent more time legitimizing the lies of ^rump and his minions etc. more free air time to allow lies to spread. Went to MSNBC & other than some of late morning early afternoon the news was positive til now-
Now it’s not only Biden picking it’s Kamala should’ve and didn’t’s-maddening! It’s people’s fault he won again not Biden/Kamala or Coach Walz! People voted against their own interests but we all suffer! Angry, frustrated and very sad! Can’t even watch any news now!!! 😡😶😢
I don't know about others, but I'm completely saturated, and will probably re-engage with liberal media, including MTN, in the future. I just need to decompress for a bit.
Haven't watched cable or national news since the election, only my local news. The cable and national news networks did everything in their power to "normalize" Trump for the sole purpose of breathlessly reporting his outrages after his re-election and driving up their ratings.
Maybe if they had cared about reporting the truth instead of sanewashing everything Trump did we wouldn't be here. They wanted him to win, because without him, there's no chaos, with no chaos, there's no news, with no news, there's no ratings, but now, they have broken our trust & lost them anyway.
Isn't that exactly what felon tRump & the cult want us to do? Call them "fake news?" I'm not watching because I don't believe what some of them say ... I just can't here his name over & over.
They aren't fake news. They're news without credibility. They normalized Trump and sabotaged the Dem candidates. They bent the knee to Trump. They are no longer trustworthy.
I don't know which news to watch anymore, I certainly am not gonna get my "news" from the internet.. I live in a coastal town and need to keep up with the weather..🤷♀️
-🍑
It’s not them, it’s me. The shows I watch on MSNBC, especially those hosted by Lawrence O’Donnell, Nicole Wallace and Rachel Maddow, have steadfastly reported the truth. Right now, I just can’t deal with the ideas that Xxxxx is actually coming back. That’s what’s reduced my viewing.
I don't watch as often as before. It's 24 hr tRump. I'm sick and tired of hearing about him and he hasn't even started office yet. I don't want to see or hear him. I wish they had all talked about Biden as much as they do tRump, maybe we would have a different incumbent.
This and they behave as if all is OK. It's not. It's not okay. We don't want the chaos and continual drum beat of war on the American people and lies like tariffs are good. Walmart those conservative greedy asses came out to tell us tariffs will hurt customers. Wtf didn't they speak up sooner?
It's normal for ratings to drop this time of year. The election loss didn't help but the ratings usually pick up again. The Spinoff channels which includes MSNBC oxygen and others for streaming should be a success like peacock for example. Cable is losing customers! Streaming is the way to go!
NBC made the dumbest decision when they made peacock to not just roll up MSNBC as their streaming news and instead make completely new, simultaneously aired, content.
Probably unpopular viewpoint but as much as I’m one who doesn’t miss watching those networks since the election, it bugs me that this is a maga win. They hate our minds. They hate our mouthpieces (was msnbc for me) and when they’re gone, magats will lol. Ugh. This isn’t the success we want.
The coverage is all about Trump, and we're so sick of him and a little depressed. I normally watch MSNBC from Deadline White House to The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell. I can only watch a couple of hours now, and all the shows start to repeat themselves.
FAFO. You spend all your air time trying to normalize and make excuses for donOLD while giving little time to the progress and accomplishments of the Biden presidency while pointing out Harris has a weird laugh and saying “we don’t know enough about her.”
In my case, I blame the U.S. media for Trump’s reelection. For normalizing him. Plus I can’t watch and listen to Donald Trump for even a second. I detest that guy.
Absolutely… they spent more time attacking Biden for his age or shitting on Kamala while his klan rallies had all kinds of absurdities that didn’t get the same coverage. Legacy “LW” media sold out and maybe it’s time many of them had to feel the pinch or the find out from turning on their audience
The entire news media needed a horse race to draw viewers. So as you said they normalized tRump. Sanewashed the crazy crap he said. I used to watch NBC news but haven’t watched their national products since the election. Canceled my WaPo subscription. None of them reported the danger he poses.
I think the bigger issue is that so many people get their news from facebook and other social media. They go to Fox to confirm the misinformation they have already been exposed to.
Thanks to Merrick Garland's passive refusal to work on behalf of the American people and the Constitution, most of us have completely forgotten there is a DOJ. Although, come to think of is, Leonard Leo and the Heritage Foundation are American, so there's that.
We have been under active information warfare from the Russians and others for the last eight years and more. They are the well funded master manipulators. They have created a mass psychopathy that is driving us to accept dictatorship.
100%. The media feeding frenzy on Biden's age and fitness, while ignoring the blatantly obvious mental decline and age of Trump was the last straw for me. Ignoring the obvious double standards in coverage of Trump over the last 8 years too
No one wants to watch any news right now. It’s too fucking grim to hear a bunch of clown/rapist cabinet nominees discussed as if they were serious leaders and not lawbreakers and grifters. Normalizing this shit and capitulating in advance is not a winning strategy.
Stopped watching all msm after the debate. After the election I started signing up for reputable journalist newsletters. Start mornings reading Heather Cox Richardson letters from an American and newsletters.
I watch Lawrence O'Donnell and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, nothing on CNN. I get clips of different stuff from YouTube, and listen to NPR, but 80% of my news is from independent sources now.
Maybe they shouldn't have normalized Orange Lucifer so much in the weeks leading into the election! They were constantly criticizing Biden and holding Kamala to an impossible standard but barely mentioning all of DT's crimes!
I hope he, @maddow.bsky.social, @chrislhayes.bsky.social, @velshi.bsky.social, etc. leave MSNBC and create their own news network. I haven’t really been watching MSNBC since @mehdirhasan.bsky.social left.
And that's getting harder given the nature of TV hits on most shows. 10-15 minute block with multiple "guests" meaning my gal/guy gets 5 minutes… maybe?
Nicolle Wallace is the best 2 hours of the day on MSNBC. And Maddow and Lawrence are worth watching. Beyond that, not so much. Katy Tur actually asked if maybe the MeToo movement had gone too far. I’m sorry, have we been holding men too accountable for their sex crimes & should back off, Katy?
Personally - I stopped watching because I mentally cannot handle the news. Same reason I deleted Twitter, removed HuffPost from my phone, etc. I am just too upset to listen to the news. It is not because I am mad or boycotting CNN/MSNBC.
Thank you! Me too. I understand not wanting to watch cable news right now. However, with FOX viewership growing, I vote for supporting CNN/MSNBC while also holding them to a higher standard to not sane wash Trump. Otherwise, MAGA/Trump wins the news cycle. It was not a landslide or a mandate.
I have such regard for Nicole Wallace (notwithstanding that she was a member of W's Administration) but I am incredibly disappointed in Joe Scarborough and Mika after their grovel tour to Mar-a-Lago. The thumbs up picture of Joe and TFG just sickened me.
I wouldn't mind seeing O'Donnell and Maddow split off to something new and perhaps more Nebula-like where it's a bit insulated from corporate influences

As long as Andrea and Katy and other apologists were sheltered; stronger voices like Ali V and Katie P are minimized; and Ari M welcomes Kasich and Navarro - then Mika & Joe did what they did… why would anyone be loyal?
I’ve lost all faith in all media really. I will no longer watch profit making media outlets. They only tell you what they think you want to hear and also things to scare you. So I’m going to be mostly reading news and watching my local news and PBS.
I don't watch CNN or MSNBC for the same reason I don't watch Fox News - none of them are actually news channels. They are opinion channels. Let me form my own opinion from watching reported news. Let's get back to watching the big 3 - ABC, NBC, and CBS.
I still watch both channels. But here's my complaint for both.
The election is over & they're STILL wall to wall tRump. My god people. There's other stuff happening in the world!
Good. It all needs to be abandoned. We need actual media that won't bow down to this shit. No both sides nonsense. Call out the facts and call out the shit. Thanks Meidas, for doing that.
I did not see both-sidesism coming from Nicole Wallace, Joy Reid, Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, nor Lawrence O'Donnell, & a few others. If there is no MSNBC & some on CNN (which hired hosts who were Fox lite), what is there that will counter the garbage being constantly spewed by Fox, NewsMax, etc?
Sadly, yes.
Deal with the reality in front of us.
Our duty will be to point out how the Republican party has fucked the average American over.
The message needs to be simple and repetitive.
Not trump. But the party.
Heather Cox Richardson says we need legacy media because they have the resources to fight that independent media does not have. Losing MSNBC to Musk would be terrible b/c 1/2 their coverage is liberal. If you think X is bad, just wait til his cesspool is on cable & streaming.
They, along with other media companies, are accountable for the outcome of this election. All who contributed directly or indirectly will face the consequences of their actions. #FAFO
It’s hysterical that they don’t look at the numbers and see that more than 50% of the nation still voted for someone other than Trump. How dumb can you be to you bomb your audience. ESPECIALLY when polls show how much less voters watch tv for news. Go full left and see the difference…
I’m also one of them. I’m absolutely fatigued of the Trump coverage. And now that we know there’s no accountability to follow, I just feel like what’s the point. I’ll get the headlines from here, but will absolutely not watch right now.
The actual msm is/was The CBS Evening News, NBC and PBS- they seemed to bridge our divide. Cable news helped create the great divide along with Limbough and in 1992, Newt Gingrich.
Almost daily but I listen to the podcast. Images of starving children in Sudan did it. But straight news, balanced opinion between R & L. They don’t have nut jobs on a nobody yells. J6 coverage incredible.
You are so right. I myself went to one of those top universities & I've lived in the biggest big cities all my life...yet I also have the clarity that so many of these corporate Dems get tunnel vision being in those environments. Even one of my BFFs said "There's no Dems in the Midwest"
I love them both but all they did was talk about trump. Maybe if we heard more about the accomplishments of Biden and his admin, it would be better. But turning them back on, it will be the same thing. More trump. Failed all of us
I still kind of watch but was really hoping for a blue wave so my news watching could tail off. To think there's going to be 4 years of "breaking news" ugh.
(2/2) (He’s clearly been found, there’s footage of him with a blanket playing in the background.) *The zoom continues as the music dramatically swells*… How am I, as a viewer, supposed to take this seriously?
(1/2) *Dramatic slow zoom into business-casual reporter in front of green screen* “Tonight(!)” she begins in that weird breathless tone they all have, as bombastic music starts playing in the background “a man got lost in Alabama(!)”
We all really just needed a mental break from him, and we didn’t get it. It will now be a total of what 10-12 years of his face and the steady “WTF he do now“ Sad and a lot of people to blame.
Senate for not impeaching
DOJ for dicking around
GOP for no balls
And a kid with bad aim, sorry not sorry
Don't watch it. I spent all of 45's last administration breathlessly consuming every piece of "breaking news" and it was terrible for my mental health. I refuse this time. Don't reward the media for making the fascist takeover of America into an entertainment spectacle.
Independents, have you watched @briantylercohen.bsky.social YouTube? Or @davidpakman.bsky.social YouTube channel?
For legal insight there's @glennkirschner.bsky.social YouTube
Independent journalists. Try Democracy Now!, Zeteo, Brian Tyler Cohen, The Majority Report, David Pakman, Jesse Dollemore, Farron Balanced, The Humanist Report, or Breaking Points. They're all very reliable.
@capturedbytymel.com This is a good list ☝🏼.
They remembered more than I could recall. There's some names I don't recognise but I know most of them and can recommend them.
Immediately after the election, I quit watching MSNBC. I had been a daily viewer prior to the election. I didn’t leave MSNBC for good, I was just so distraught over the election I didn’t want to deal with the news. I’m back now.
Let the market speak. All I want is grounded news on facts and truth. The sane washing that was done by MSNBC,NBC,CNN,etc., about Trump to make him “reasonable”, while at the same time criticizing everything about Biden, Harris, and Walz. It was a manufactured horse race, that allowed a criminal in.
Look, I'm a moderate independent (not to mention 🇨🇦), so not prone to jumping on any "my team" bandwagons.
But, and this really captures my feelings on the subject:
Fuck those guys
I am not surprised. People need a break from politics in general and hair-on-fire pundits specifically. I have faith we will find a new normal and chart our path forward. We are going to go through some “things” but we and our democracy will survive💪🏼🙏🏼
I was sick of watching MSNBC platform and glorify the very Republicans that drove their party into Trump’s arms telling Democrats they had to be more like “traditional” Republicans (i.e., like themselves) in order to win.
Aljazeera, as Hillary Clinton and Obama stated, has the best journalists out there. Canadian Richard Gisbert hosts "The Listening Post". Makes USA "news" look grade 3.
college class of Chem E was a white man who was the only one who did not have a job after graduation..Because he has the wrong skin color and sex. This is the generation that has been completely SCREWED by the Democrats. And they know it. No longer does TV control the message in America.
My daughter is 25 years old and a Chem E making 120k. She pays half her income in taxes. Rent for a one bedroom is 2k. When all is done she does not have enough money to buy a new car. Her generations see the massive influx of illegals all living for free of her hard earned money. The top of her
Can't gaslight us and expect us to keep watching. Nonstop reporting of Bidens age and gaffe while never reporting on the phenomenal job he did. Get bent. We are never coming back.
Exactly! I have not forgiven Nicolle Wallace for leading the charge for Biden to withdraw. And now with Joe and Mika’s groveling? I’m done with all of them.
There’s no way to say for sure & it doesn’t matter now, but I doubt Biden would have lost PA. And he wasn’t ever incoherent, including during the debate.
In my opinion, MSM has culpability in helping the orange idiot get elected. I have no interest in watching them gleefully report the latest insanity from the incoming administration for the next 4 years.
I didn't watch either much anyway, but I have almost completely stopped my obsessive reading. Nobody wants to hear dumb post-mortems and excuses. Trump winning was a major blow and we're all just recovering.
It's not a permanent exodus. It's just too depressing to watch the news since the election. Too much despair and fear and outrage combined with hopelessness and helplessness with each newly announced ridiculously horrifying appointee and policy. We'll slowly start watching more news. Eventually.
I was one of them. Until today. I want to keep up with the unraveling, but without seeing his face or hearing his voice. And the constant “five-alarm fires”. I think MSNBC got the message. It’s safe to go back now.
Perhaps, in the future, if they have a future, they'll think about us, rather than their ratings; they'll give us truth, rather than what sells/placates us. I think that it's our disappointment in them, as well as not wanting to hear the news right now, that's keeping us away.
Just nostalgia now.
Like visiting the old diner to have home fries, getting some soggy potato tots, but going back every morning, hoping for those old home fries.
I agree, but this isn't the only show on MSNBC. As a compulsive fact checker, I rarely found inaccuracies by Nicole Wallace, Joy Reid, Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell. If MSNBC and CNN go away, where is the balance to Fox and NewsMax? CNN has become Fox lite, tho.
Thanks for responding. Personally, I find their constant comments about “genocide” quite offensive. Yet they never mention the horrors of 10/7 or the hostages. When guests mention it, they don’t want to discuss how and why this tragic war started.
This war started because of a terrorist organization named Hamas funded by Iran. The murder of innocent civilians on both sides is tragic. Hamas could have surrendered and let the hostages go but they didn’t.
Legacy media totally deserved this. They've been normalizing TFG for years to boost their failing ratings, but the chickens are coming home to roost now.
Well I don't fit the demographic but this 68 y/o granny blue dot in a red state, turned them both off on Nov 5th & haven't watched since. Took the apps from my phone. I left X for a saner place & did not follow any of their staff except 2 that I *THINK* I can still tolerate. I haven't looked back.
I normally have MSNBC on all the time in the background, but since the election I have been running HGTV for my background noise. This isn't because I am boycotting MSNBC or anything like that, it's just for my own sanity.
I have not watched ANY cable news show since the election. I am not getting pulled down that rabbit hole for another 4 years. Fuck MSM for normalizing him and getting him re-elected. I hope they all get canceled.
morning joe obeying was a big part of the ratings drop. but peeps also just need a break for their own well-being. they're not leaving for another news source, just tuning out altogether.
I havent had msnbc on save for a few minutes during nicolle 3 or 4 days since the election. It used to be on all day, my emotional support network, now 10 or 15 minutes is all I can handle
I watch it on YouTube, they have basically highlights for 10 to 20 minutes for each show. I mean there's nothing wrong with Maddow or Lawrence or Nicole but like others I just need to cool it a while, including MTN.
All news media sane-washed 45 throughout the election cycle. I blame them for his election. Fox News was expected; the other media should have walked him out as hard as they did Biden’s age.
CNN is horrible, but I hate to see msnbc go away. There are many intelligent hosts. We cannot complain about right wing media taking over, because we are mad about a couple of the hosts. Savaging the entire network getting it shut down, is not helping any. We need more options not less.
Kamala Harris was given an impossible task. She had only Three Months for people to get to know her, hear what she stood for, and what she was offering. I thought she was spectacular. What I didn't realize is how people get the bulk of their news radio while driving and online sites like TikTok.
This has more to do with people not wanting to listen to the news. You are being fundamentally dishonest here. And that should be a big red flag for your listeners
I won't go back. Mika, especially, has betrayed all women. There is no value if you're a coward and bow the knee instead of standing up to the bully. Alexis Navalny had more courage. Joe and mika, that was cowardness. And now we know all these years of support were for nothing. So, I won't go back.
People are just done. It’s partly because people don’t want to watch coverage of Trumps presidency 24/7 and they/we blame the media for sane washing him.
Yes, this. Most media, even MSNBC which certainly leans left, at least makes an attempt to play the middle. This is where we're at a huge disadvantage. Because media like Fox News doesn't even try and pretend, they go all in for their side. I hate them, but you have to give them credit going all in
Fox hosts lie; I’ll never give them credit for going all in. Fox has single handedly ruined trust between people, and eliminated truth; the shared truth a free society depends on.
Credit probably wasn't the best word to use. Yes, they lie constantly. I think I had another comment that a counter media for the left wouldn't have to lie because there enough ammunition in the truth. We need an all-in mainstream fox counter that uses truth but doesn't care about neutrality.
With the exception of a few programs who betrayed the trust, the audience will come back to MSNBC. A lot of people don't want to hear anything about Trump, his picks, his followers or abettors in Congress right now-especially with Thanksgiving coming up. CNN, on the other hand, is in trouble.
Well.... I used to watch Morning Joe every morning for a couple of hours. After the election I was so despondent I didn't want to watch MSNBC, I was down.
I will probably go back, except for Morning Joe, he is not even on BlueSky, I won't watch him and Mika ever again.
Well deserved
exodus. They tried to appear "unbiased" and "balanced," to the extent their coverage became meaningless and complicit. I will celebrate their demise.
There are many other places to find the news these days and mainstream media is only one such place. They helped to put Trump back into the WH and will now normalize his erratic, impulsive cabinet picks and Project 2025. No, thank you. 🤡
